A fluorescence biosensor was developed for the ultrasensitive detection of the available lead in soil samples by coupling with DNAzyme and hairpin DNA cyclic assembly. The biorecognition between lead and 8-17 DNAzyme will cleave the substrate strands (DNA2) and release the trigger DNA (T), which can be used to initiate the DNA assembly reactions among the hairpins (H1, H2, and H3). The formed Y-shaped sensing scaffold (H1-H2-H3) contains active Mg 2+ -DNAyzmes at three directions. In the presence of Mg 2+ , the BHQ and FAM modified H4 will be cleaved by the Mg 2+ -DNAyzme to generate a high fluorescence signal for lead monitoring. The linear range of the fluorescence biosensor is from 1 pM to 100 nM and the detection limit is 0.2 pM. The biosensor also exhibited high selectivity and the nontarget competing heavy metals did not interfere with the detection results. Compare with the traditional method (DTPA+ICP-MS) for the available lead detection, the relative error (Re) is in the range from −8.3 % to 9.5 %. The results indicated that our constructed fluorescence biosensor is robust, accurate, and reliable, and can be applied directly to the detection of the available lead in soil samples without complex extraction steps.

The current study uses the ionic liquid (IL) 1-butyl-3-methylimidazolium hexafluorophosphate, also known as BMIM-PF 6 , as a stabilizing agent to synthesize a bismuth oxide/ionic liquid/reduced graphene oxide (Bi 2 O 3 /IL/rGO) hybrid nanomaterial. A range of techniques, including scanning electron microscopy (SEM), X-ray diffraction (XRD), energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDX), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), and UV-visible spectroscopy, were used to characterize the synthesized Bi 2 O 3 /IL/rGO nanocomposite. XRD confirmed that the composite was crystalline, and FTIR analysis suggested the presence of certain functional groups. The main elements oxygen, carbon, and bismuth were confirmed by EDX analysis, and SEM imaging showed an exfoliated and detached morphology. The synthesized nanocomposite was used to modify a glassy carbon electrode to develop a sensor for the detection of lead (Pb 2+ ). The fabricated sensor was characterized using electrochemical impendence spectroscopy (EIS) and cyclic voltammetry (CV). The results indicated that the Bi 2 O 3 /IL/rGO/GCE was more conductive, having a charge transfer resistance ( R ct ) of 428.5 Ω compared to 1870 Ω for the bare electrode. The sensor has a low detection limit of 0.001 μM and a quantification limit of 0.003 μM. When tested on water and soil samples, the sensor was confirmed to have acceptable recovery rates, ranging from 95% to 102%. In conclusion, our fabricated sensor has excellent performance in terms of ease, affordability, energy usage, and quick efficiency. The ionic liquid BMIM-PF 6 was used as stabilizing agent to synthesize Bi 2 O 3 /IL/rGO hybrid nanocomposite. A sensor was developed by modifying the surface of GCE by using hybrid nanocomposite for the detection of Pb 2+ in environmental samples.

Lead contamination in aquatic products is one of the main hazard factors. The aptasensor is a promising detection method for lead ion (Pb(II)) because of its selectivity, but it is easily affected by pH. The combination of ion-imprinted polymers(IIP) with aptamers may improve their stability in different pH conditions. This paper developed a novel electrochemical biosensor for Pb(II) detection by using aptamer-imprinted polymer as a recognition element. The glassy carbon electrode was modified with gold nanoparticles and aptamers. After the aptamer was induced by Pb(II) to form a G-quadruplex conformation, a chitosan-graphene oxide was electrodeposited and cross-linked with glutaraldehyde to form an imprint layer, improving the stability of the biosensor. Under the optimal experimental conditions, the current signal change (∆I) showed a linear correlation of the content of Pb(II) in the range of 0.1–2.0 μg/mL with a detection limit of 0.0796 μg/mL (S/N = 3). The biosensor also exhibited high selectivity for the determination of Pb(II) in the presence of other interfering metal ion. At the same time, the stability of the imprinted layer made the sensor applicable to the detection environment with a pH of 6.4–8.0. Moreover, the sensor was successfully applied to the detection of Pb(II) in mantis shrimp.Keywords:aptamer-imprinted polymer;chitosan–graphene oxide composite;lead detection

Herein, we present a novel miniaturized multisensor chip integrated with a nanoband electrode array (NEA) for lead and copper detection and a light addressable potentiometric sensor (LAPS) for pH sensing. By this means, pH information could be provided before electrochemical analysis to ensure high performance in heavy metal quantification due to the significant effects of solution acidity on electrochemical analyses. The fabrication processes of the multisensor chip are described in detail and the electrochemical behaviour of NEA was characterized using cyclic voltammetry in sulfuric acid and acetate buffer. For the detection of lead and copper qualitatively and quantitatively, square wave anodic stripping voltammetry (SWASV) was applied with the standard addition method. Deposition potential and deposition time were optimized to be −0.6 V and 120 s, respectively. NEA exhibited a sensitivity of 0.510 μA pbb−1 and 0.678 μA ppb−1 towards lead and copper, respectively, with high correlation coefficients. The repetitive and long-term experiments also demonstrated the good reproducibility and stability of NEA in heavy metal detection. Moreover, the silicon nitride modified LAPS showed a pH sensitivity of 56.49 mV pH−1 with a high correlation coefficient of 0.9999. The reproducibility of LAPS was also investigated and a deviation of less than 2 mV was obtained in both the samples. These results indicate that the miniaturized multisensor chip demonstrates good electrochemical performance in heavy metal and pH sensing.

Electrochemical detection has been used to measure heavy metals in food, but matrix interferences remain limited the rapid treatment-detection. This study developed a Nafion-Bi 2 O 3 coating modified graphite paper/sodium alginate gel electrode to amplify the electrical signal of Pb(II) and improve the anti-interference towards organic acids and metal ions. Although negatively charged organic acids were excluded by Nafion, interferences of exchangeable ions were amplified. In the mix drip coating, Bi 2 O 3 was chemical combined and electrostatic interacted with OH, SO 3 − and C-S in Nafion. This modification reduced diffusion resistance, enhanced surface hydrophobicity and provided additional reactive oxygen binding sites. The peak current of Pb(II) increased 56.62 % and the detection limit was lowered to 0.015 μg/L. The recoveries of Pb in matrices were 78.33 %–106.45 %. The easy field modified graphite paper electrode represents an innovation, and this study will propel the rapid detection of heavy metals based on acid-extraction.

In this work, an effective strategy for the fabrication of novel layer-by-layer multilayer films modified electrodes in electrochemical sensor applications. Glassy carbon electrode (GCE) surface has been modified with various multilayer films which were prepared by continuous repeated alternating electrodeposited of carboxylated multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs−COOH) and Zr-metal-organic frameworks (UiO-66-NH 2 ). Newly constructed three-layer assembly of MWCNTs−COOH/UiO-66-NH 2 /MWCNTs−COOH/GCE as voltammetric sensor was adapted to simultaneous detection Cd 2+ and Pb 2+ by square-wave anodic stripping voltammetry (SWASV). Meanwhile, the formation of MWCNTs−COOH/UiO-66-NH 2 /MWCNTs−COOH/GCE is supported by electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS), cyclic voltammetry (CV), X-ray photoelectron spectra (XPS), X-ray diffraction patterns (XRD), and Fourier transform infrared spectra (FT-IR), which have been researched to estimate the effect of their electrochemical detection. Here, combined the abundant adsorption sites of UiO-66-NH 2 with excellent conductivity ability of MWCNTs−COOH, and the dominant characteristics of the chelation mechanisms between amine groups and heavy metal cations, which strengthened its electrocatalytic activity. Results show that three-layer film modified GCE (MWCNTs−COOH/UiO-66-NH 2 /MWCNTs−COOH/GCE) can acquire the optimal simultaneous detection performances as the higher sensitivities to Cd 2+ (0.2528 μA ppb −1 ) and Pb 2+ (0.3012 μA ppb −1 ), the lower level detection limits to Cd 2+ (0.090 ppb) and Pb 2+ (0.071 ppb), as well as the superior linear relativity, respectively. Finally, excellent stability, repeatability and reproducibility of three-layer film modified GCE allow this sensing platform to work in practical application. The strategy that used layer by layer electrodeposition to assemble multilayer films will provide great potential for advanced applications in environment, biomedicine, human health and energy field.

Heavy metals are harmful and it’s meaningful to achieve co-detection. In this work, fluorescence (FL) and electrochemistry (EC) dual-modal sensors combined with neural networks are proposed to detect cadmium (Cd 2+ ) and lead (Pb 2+ ) without pretreatment for the first time. Dual-modal sensing eliminates individual limitations of FL and EC and combines their superiority. Quantum dots and sea urchin-like FeOOH are used as sensitive materials, among which FeOOH is used for the first time to detect Pb 2+ with high repeatability and sensitivity. Combining with the proposed neural networks, the mean absolute error of Cd 2+ and Pb 2+ predicted are 0.2176 μg/L and 0.6002 μg/L, respectively, which are far better than traditional analysis methods. The R-Squared between the predicted value and the true value is 0.974 (Cd 2+ ) and 0.999 (Pb 2+ ), respectively, which verifies the feasibility of the designed sensor. This model eliminates the mutual interference between Cd 2+ and Pb 2+ based on the synergistic effect and can be used for low-level detection in water samples with complex background. In addition, the designed model could combine with other types of sensors to accurately monitor global-local waters. It also provides new ideas for data fusion, which expands the flexibility in environmental protection and health care.

A novel nanoporous carbon material (NPC) was prepared by simple pyrolysis of an isoreticular metal–organic framework-8 (IRMOF-8) at 1000 °C. The obtained NPC possessed a three-dimensional hierarchy of micro-, meso-, and macropores, a high surface area of 1715 m2 g−1 and a large pore volume of 1.70 cm3 g−1. By using Nafion and bismuth films as co-modifiers, the obtained NPC was further used for the fabrication of a sensitive NPC–Nafion/bismuth composite modified glassy carbon electrode (NPC–Nafion/Bi/GCE) for electrochemical determination of Pb(II) in aqueous solution. The synergistic effect of the Nafion and Bi films, as well as the high activated surface area, hierarchical porous texture, and good electrical conductivity of the NPC contributed to the enhanced electrochemical response of Pb(II) at the NPC–Nafion/Bi/GCE during differential pulse anodic stripping voltammetry. Under the optimum conditions, the fabricated electrode exhibited two linear ranges varying from 1–7 μg L−1 and 7–70 μg L−1, respectively. The detection limit was estimated to be 0.8 μg L−1 (at a signal-to-noise ratio of 3) for Pb(II), which was about 12 times lower than the guideline value set by the World Health Organization (WHO) for drinking water. The NPC–Nafion/Bi/GCE showed high reproducibility, with relative standard deviations of 6.2% and 3.4% for multiple successive measurements of 10 and 50 μg L−1 Pb(II), respectively. The composite electrode was successfully used in the analyses of Pb(II) in tap-water samples, and good recoveries were obtained for various spiked values.

Simple and accurate detection of trace heavy metals in blood is very important. A novel dual-responsive electrochemical/fluorescent biosensor based on magnetic hyperbranched polyamide with heparin modification (MHPAM-H) for blood lead detection has been successfully developed. Upon conjugated with blood lead ions , dual-biosensor could not only display electrochemical signal but also fluorescence signal owing to the enriched amino groups, cavity structure, and good fluorescence properties of HPAM. Blood biocompatibility, construction of the dual-responsive biosensor, electrochemical/fluorescent detection of lead ions in water phase and blood condition, selectivity and stability of the dual-responsive biosensor were investigated in detail. The proposed dual-responsive biosensor displays good linear relationship (1.5 pM- 4.8 × 10 3 pM for electrochemical detection and 0.5 pM-4.8 × 10 3 pM for fluorescent detection) with low detection limit (4.4 pM for electrochemical detection and 1.0 pM for fluorescent detection) for blood lead, providing potential application for blood lead detection in the future.

Since lead is teratogenic, carcinogenic and mutagenic, people pay increasing attention to lead contamination in water environment. In this work, a novel electrochemical sensor was developed to detect Pb(II) ion in water by PPy , MOFs and bismuth film (BF) modify GCE . Scanning electron microscopy, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction, electrochemical impedance spectroscopy , contact angleanalyses, cyclic voltammetry and differential pulse anodic stripping voltammetry were used to characterize the BF-PPy/UIO-66-NH 2 /GCE surface, revealing the physical and electrochemical properties of the electrode. MOFs increased the specific surface area and adsorption site of the electrode. The PPy enhanced the conductivity of the composites materials. MOFs and PPy synergistically promoted the electrochemical performance of the electrode. The deposition potential, deposition time , solution pH and Bi (III) concentration were optimized to determine the optimal detection condition. The electrode has a wide linear range (0.5 to 10 μg/L) with a low detection limit (0.05 μg/L). This electrode also has good anti-interference, repeatability and stability. Besides, it has been successfully applied to the detection of actual water samples. The recovery rates ranged from 95.4 % to 102.8 % with a relative standard deviation (RSD) less than 4.40 %. Our results provide an insight on efficient and rapid detection of Pb(II) ions in water environment in the future.

Medicinal teas (MT) were popular in Asian countries for its various effective components. However, Pb pollution poses a serious threat to MT consumption due to the irreversible effect on enzyme activity and neurodegenerative disease. Owing to its toxicity and matrix interference, a rapid screening method for Pb at trace level with high sensitivity and accuracy is urgent for MT consumers. Herein, a simple and ultra-sensitive AuNPs/MWCNTs-MB/DNA-GCE quadruplex biosensor was developed and investigated. Specifically, the monitoring technology of scanning electrochemical microscope was utilized to analyze the assembly and application process for screening key parameters in complex matrix , through in-situ characterization of the microstructure changes on stepwise modified sensors. According to the combined results of electrochemical test and Randles-Sevcik equation, the proposed sensor showed a wide linear range from 5.0 * 10 −15 to 5.0 * 10 −13 M with LOD of 0.9 fM. In addition, the optimized sensor exhibited an excellent selectivity under the inference of metals and medicinal components. The proposed biosensor was successfully implemented for the ultrasensitive monitoring Pb pollution in MT while its water infusions recoveries maintained within acceptable range (81–118 %, 82–129 %). In all, AuNPs/MWCNTs-MB/DNA-GCE provided a new insight into the design, optimization, application and mechanism analysis of sensor for reliable sensing in controlling MT pollution and consumption safety.
