Hematite (α-Fe 2 O 3 ) is a promising alternative to the catalysts currently used due to its low cost, fairly good activity and environmentally friendly properties. In this study, α-Fe 2 O 3 /SiO 2 nanocatalysts promoted with cobalt and cerium (Co 3 O 4 -CeO 2 -α-Fe 2 O 3 /SiO 2 ) were prepared via wet co-impregnation method, and the effects of promoters on catalytic performances for SO 2 oxidation at different temperatures, SO 2 concentrations, cycle numbers, catalytic stability as well as catalyst charging were investigated. The results indicated that SO 2 conversion rose with the increasing of catalyst charging and SO 2 concentration. Also, the as-prepared catalyst had the maximum SO 2 conversion at the reaction temperature of 500 °C, excellent catalytic recyclability and activity stability. Its physicochemical and redox properties were characterized by XRD, BET, SEM, FT-IR and XPS. The results of XRD and FT-IR spectra confirmed that the formation of Ce 2 FeO 4 network in the Co-Ce co-doped catalysts proved the promoting effect of cerium on higher valence state of the active ingredient. The N2 adsorption/desorption results evidenced that cerium could increase the proportion of mesoporous, and the XPS spectra indicated that cobalt and cerium in the catalysts could increase the available oxygen (O β /O α ) for the redox reaction. Due to its excellent low onset temperature, fairly good activity and environmentally friendly properties, the as-prepared catalyst of Co 3 O 4 -CeO 2 -α-Fe 2 O 3 /SiO 2 appeared to be more efficient for the SO 2 conversion in a large concentration range.

Zinc (Zn) and cerium (Ce) modified hierarchical ZSM-5 (HZ) catalysts were prepared by incipient wetness impregnation, and their catalytic performances in methanol to aromatics reaction were evaluated in a fixed-bed reactor operating at 400°C under 0.1 MPa and WHSV of 1.0 h −1 . The structure, acidity, and state of Zn species of the Zn/Ce modified HZ catalysts were investigated via several characterization techniques, including XRD, NH 3 -TPD, H 2 -TPR, nitrogen adsorption, and XPS. The results showed that the aromatization activity of 2 wt% Zn-modified HZ (2% Zn/HZ) could be significantly enhanced by loading 0.6 wt% Ce, which was mainly attributed to the increase in surface ZnOH + species. Moreover, it was found that Ce inhibited pore blockage caused by Zn. Consequently, compared to 2% Zn/HZ, 2% Zn-0.6% Ce/HZ exhibited higher aromatic selectivity and longer catalyst lifetime.

It is a big challenge to improve the stability and anti-coking abilities of catalyst in high temperature CO methanation reaction. To address the issue, SiC was chose as the support, and Ce was used as a promoter to prepare supported Ni catalysts for CO methanation. A long-term high temperature stability evaluation experiment was carried out at 600 °C for 100 h in comparison with Ni/Al 2 O 3 catalyst. The catalysts were characterized by a combination of characterization techniques for understanding the catalytic performance and carbon deposition behaviors in CO methanation. The life test result indicates that, compared to Ni/Al 2 O 3 , Ni/SiC is thermally stable and highly resistant to carbon deposition . Improved cataytic activity and stability was further reached by introduce of Ce promoter into Ni/SiC, which can be attributed to the enhanced interaction between Ni and SiC and improved dispersion of Ni active species.

A series of Co-M (M = Ce, Fe, Zr) binary oxides supported on N-doped catalysts were prepared by impregnation methods and tested for DRM reaction. Moreover, the influence of Co and Ce atomic contents in the catalysts on DRM performance was investigated. Significant enhancement of activity performance over Ce promoted 3Co-1Ce/AC-N catalyst was observed. Compared with Fe and Zr, the catalyst with 1/4 mol% of Ce showed the highest activity and was higher than the supported Co catalyst . The calcined and spent catalysts were characterized by XPS , H 2 -TPR, TEM and EDX mapping studies. The characterization results demonstrated that the increase of 3Co-1Ce/AC-N reforming reactivity was attributed to the presence of Ce in Co-based catalyst, which modified the chemical states of Co-Ce composite oxide and redox properties, and increased the presence of Co 2+ species, the content of chemisorbed oxygen and the oxygen mobility. Among the different Co/Ce ratio catalysts, the one with a Co/Ce molar ratio at 1 exhibited better catalytic performance. As the Ce content increases, the content of chemisorbed oxygen was further decreased. In addition, the introduction of N on the support could also affect the catalyst reduction property and interaction of Co-Ce bimetal, which would improve catalytic performance.
