In order to develop a green and efficient nano suppressant for aluminum (Al) dust explosion, MCN with layered structure was synthesized with low-cost urea as precursor via simple calcination technology . The suppression performance of MCN on the flame propagation of 30 μm and 5 μm Al dust with the concentration of 1000 g/m 3 was experimentally studied. Results showed that with the addition of MCN increasing, the flame luminous intensity , flame propagation velocity and fluctuating trend of mixture-Al dust were greatly decreased. After adding 500 g/m 3 and 700 g/m 3 to 30 μm and 5 μm Al dust, the average flame propagation velocities declined by 73.24 % and 94.07 % separately. The minimum inerting concentration of 30 μm and 5 μm Al dust was 600 g/m 3 and 900 g/m 3 . Explosion residuals were analyzed to further reveal the suppression mechanism of MCN in detail. The good performance of MCN provided a potential direction to develop efficient suppressants on the suppression of Al dust explosions to improve process safety.
In this study, one novel zinc borate (NZB) was successfully synthesized by the neutralization reaction and adopted for inhibiting aluminum dust explosion. The results of pyrolysis characteristics suggested that the initial decomposition temperature decreased by 178℃ and heat absorption per unit increased by 234.13 J/g compared with zinc borate with 3.5 H 2 O (ZB2335). The inhibition effectiveness of NZB for aluminum dust explosion was investigated systematically. Results showed that the maximum explosion pressure and maximum rate of pressure rise reduced by 96.7% and 95.0% correspondingly after adding NZB with a concentration of 600 g/m 3 (minimum inhibition concentration). From the view of minimum inhibition concentration, NZB showed superior inhibition performance than ZB2335 (1000 g/m 3 ). Combining with the results of SEM, TG-DSC and XRD analysis, the inhibition mechanism of NZB was revealed in depth, which was mainly derived from endothermic effect, surface coating effect and oxidizer dilution effect.
In this work, vinyltriethoxysilane (A151) and 3-aminopropyltriethoxysilane (KH550) were used to modify ammonium polyphosphate (APP), showing that the dispersibility of APP could be improved remarkably by A151 and KH550. The maximum explosion pressure of aluminum dust explosion decreased with the addition of APP, A151-APP (APP-A) and KH550-APP (APP-B), with the exception of the case where the inerting ratio (α) of APP-A was less than 0.4. After the addition of APP-B, there was little difference in flame propagation behavior and explosion pressure compared with that of adding APP, indicating that APP-B could retain the inhibition performance of APP compared with APP-A. When the inerting ratios of APP, APP-A and APP-B were 1.2, 1.4 and 1.4, respectively, the aluminum dust explosion could be completely inhibited. The explosion residues of aluminum dust/APP mainly consisted of Al 2 O 3 , P-containing and N-containing compounds. It could be analyzed that APP exerted the inhibition effect through both chemical and physical effects.
