A novel preparation of Ag@TiO2 tubes and their potent photocatalytic degradation efficiency

Zhiqiang Cheng,Shengzhe Zhao,Zhaolian Han,Yingying Zhang,Xiaodong Zhao,Lijuan Kang

Hollow TiO2 nanotubes have been produced by combining electrospinning with a soaking process and controlled calcination method. Silver was successfully coated on the surface of the TiO2 tubes through the immersion burning method. Structure and components of TiO2 and Ag/TiO2 tubes were characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), energy dispersive X-ray analysis (EDX) and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS). Morphology was studied by scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM). The photocatalysis properties were verified by degradation of methyl orange (MO) dye. From the results, the Ag/TiO2 hollow tubes could degrade methyl orange efficiently under UV light irradiation, showing excellent photocatalytic activity over pure TiO2. The synthesis mechanism of the Ag/TiO2 tubes and the mechanism for silver-enhanced photocatalytic activity have been conjectured.

A highly sensitive immunochromatographic assay for lead ions in drinking water based on antibody-oriented probe and silver enhancement

Li Yangyang,Zhu Zhengwei,Qu Wenli,Yang Qing,Liu Yan,Wang Qiao,Duan Shuo,Wu Jine,Gong Zhiyong,Xu Lin

Lead ions are a toxic metal that can enter the human body through the diet and negatively impact human health. A wide variety of foods, such as vegetables, meat, aquatic product, and drinking water, can be contaminated with lead ions. In this study, a highly sensitive immunochromatographic assay (ICA) based on antibody-oriented probe and silver enhancement was established for the qualitative and quantitative determination of lead ions in drinking water. The recombinant protein A (PrA) was used in probe preparation to improve antibody bioactivity while silver enhancement method was applied to enhance the signal reporter of ICA. It was determined that the visual limit of detection and the scanning limit of quantification of the ICA based on antibody-oriented probe and silver enhancement for lead ions in drinking water were 0.2 ng/mL and 0.08 ng/mL, respectively. The results obtained from developed ICA strip and ICP-MS had no obvious difference using statistical analysis of t test. Compared to previously reported ICA methods for lead ions, the developed ICA method enabled analyzing lead ions in drinking water with a superior sensitivity and detection range.

Research and Application of Visual Detection Based on Quantum Dots Coupled with Silver Enhancement

Guo-Feng XU,Hui LI,Cui ZHANG,Zi-Yin SUN,Wen-Ying ZHONG,Dan-Ke XU,Hong-Yuan CHEN

We synthesized and prepared a CdTe quantum dot (QD) probe modified with streptavidin (SA) and successfully established a novel visual detection method based on QD coupled with silver enhancement. Combined with the protein microarray analysis technology, this novel method did well in the detection of the reverse-phase protein microarray. To detect the analytical performance of this method, human IgG was used as a mode in this experiment. Initially, the human IgG was immobilized on aldehyde slides, then the optimized bio-goat anti-human IgG and CdTe-SA probe were added, and finally the silver enhancement coloration was held for 15 min; the results showed a good linear correlation between the signal gray level and the logarithm of human IgG immobilized on slides from 100 pg to 1.6 ng with a correlation coefficient ( R 2 ) of 0.997, while its lowest detectable limit was about 50 pg human IgG. This novel method could carry out the sensitive detection of microamounts of protein and shows the characteristics of a simple method that requires very few instruments, and the results obtained using this method can be easily visualized.

Nanostructured N, S, and P-Doped Elaeagnus Angustifolia Gum-Derived Porous Carbon with Electrodeposited Silver for Enhanced Electrochemical Sensing of Acetaminophen

Xamxikamar Mamat,Haji Akber Aisa,Longyi Chen

Acetaminophen (N-acetyl-p-aminophenol, APAP) is regularly used for antipyretic and analgesic purposes. Overdose or long-term exposure to APAP could lead to liver damage and hepatotoxicity. In this study, the approach of enhanced electrochemical detection of APAP by nanostructured biomass carbon/silver was developed. Porous biomass carbon derived from Elaeagnus Angustifolia gum was prepared by pyrolysis with co-doping of electron-rich elements of nitrogen, sulfur, and phosphorus. The electrodeposition of silver onto a glassy carbon electrode modified with porous carbon could enhance the sensing signal towards APAP. Two linear ranges from 61 nM to 500 μM were achieved with a limit of detection of 33 nM. The developed GCE sensor has good anti-interference, stability, reproducibility, and human urine sample analysis performance. The silver-enhanced biomass carbon GCE sensor extends the application of biomass carbon, and its facile preparation approach could be used in constructing disposable sensing chips in the future. Keywords:acetaminophen;nanostructured porous carbon;electrodeposition;silver enhancement;modified GCE;electrochemical sensing

Ag-enhanced MOF-based electrochemical biosensor for sensitive detection of uracil-DNA glycosylase activity in cellular systems

Ruyue Cong,Kaiyue Hu,Dandan Hu,Jingran Sun,Jinglu Yao,Zhiyong Guo,Sui Wang,Yufang Hu

The detection of UDG activity is essential for understanding DNA damage repair mechanisms, assessing cellular genetic stability, and advancing diagnostics and treatments for related diseases. An advanced electrochemical biosensor based on a silver-enhanced copper metal–organic framework (Ag@Cu-MOF) has been developed for the sensitive and selective detection of uracil-DNA glycosylase (UDG) activity in cellular environments. This design incorporates a prism substrate to stabilize the liquid phase on the electrode surface, with DNA probes immobilized on the prism surface. Upon UDG-catalyzed uracil excision, the probe undergoes structural changes, initiating a cascade reaction. The abundance of free DNA ends facilitates the approach of MOF materials to the electrode interface, creating a stable environment conducive to H 2 O 2 reduction, thereby amplifying the electrochemical signal. Comparative catalytic analyses revealed that the Ag@Cu-MOF-modified electrode, with its enhanced conductivity and high surface area, achieved efficient catalysis compared to Cu-MOF. The biosensor exhibited a linear response to UDG concentrations ranging from 0.00002 to 0.5 U/mL, with an impressively low detection limit of 0.00002 U/mL, highlighting its capability for quantitative analysis. The sensor demonstrated high selectivity, minimal interference from other biomolecules, and stable performance across multiple cycles, underscoring its robustness. Furthermore, UDG activity was successfully detected at varying cell densities and under hypoxic conditions, providing valuable insights into cellular DNA repair mechanisms and responses to stress. In summary, the Ag@Cu-MOF-based biosensor offers a promising platform for detecting UDG activity in cancer diagnostics and cellular research, with potential applications in monitoring DNA repair activities under both physiological and pathological conditions.

A multiple-promoted silver enhancement strategy in electrochemical detection of target virus

Xindong Wang,Laijun Wang,Wei Yang,Shiyun Ai

A sandwich-type electrochemical immunosensor for the detection of avian leukosis virus subgroup J (ALV-J) based on a novel multiple-promoted silver enhancement strategy is described. Owing to the admirable features of carbon nanotubes-iron oxides magnetic composites (CIMC), catalytic performance of gold nanoparticles (Au NPs) and adsorptive and reductive properties of humic acids (HAs), the Au NPs and HAs labeled, antibody functionalized, and bovine serum albumin (BSA) blocked CIMC (CIMC-Au-HAs/Ab 2 -BSA) were assembled and applied as a triple signal amplified method in ALV-J detection. Furthermore, β-cyclodextrin functional graphene sheets (CD-GS) were used as matrixes for immobilization of antibodies due to the huge surface area and superior electrical conductivity . The primary procedures are as follows: firstly, CD-GS were used as the immunosensor platform for immobilizing antibodies. Subsequently, after the sandwich-type assembly, CIMC-Au-HAs/Ab 2 -BSA was fabricated onto the immunosensor surface to adsorb and catalytic reduction of Ag + to Ag. Then the deposited Ag was detected by differential pulse voltammetry (DPV) in KCl solution. To embody the function of CIMC, adsorptive and reductive properties of HAs, and catalytic performance of Au NPs, response signals of various labels were compared in detail. The immunosensor displayed good analytical performance for the detection of ALV-J ranging from 10 2.05 to 10 4.50   TCID 50 /mL with a detection limit of 110   TCID 50 /mL (S/N   =   3). Thus, the newly designed immunosensor showed a promising potential in clinical applications.
