High-energy density and low cost magnesium nanoparticles (Mg NPs)-based material are being sought to meet increasing capable of hydrogen (H 2 ) storage demand. Here, a kind of air-stable Mg NPs supported on porous structured multi-walled carbon tubes-polymethyl methacrylate (MWCNTs-PMMA) template is prepared owing to reversible well-distributed, dispersed and small-sized Mg/MgH 2 NPs. The aim is to improve the H 2 storage capacity, hydrogen sorption kinetics and thermodynamics of nano Mg-based system without using catalyst. The organic Mg precursor was directly in-situ reduced to metallic Mg NPs in MWCNTs-PMMA template by lithium naphthalide. The size distribution of reduced Mg nanoparticles is around 3.6 ± 0.2 nm, confirmed by XRD and TEM analyses, which is due to the strong interaction between Mg NPs and MWCNTs-PMMA via PMMA binding Mg 2+ , as well as the confinement of porous template hindered the growth and agglomeration of Mg NPs. Moreover, except H 2 , O 2 and H 2 O molecules can't infiltrate the porous structure of MWCNTs-PMMA resulted in the presence of air stable Mg NPs in the MWCNTs-PMMA. The work provides a new scope to prepare nano metal-based composite for H 2 storage.

The nano metallic-based material has received the particular attention of scientists in H 2 storage. Herein, an efficient air-stable nano metallic magnesium (Mg)-Polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA) system, in which methyl magnesium chloride (MeMgCl) as organic Mg precursor is in-situ reduced to metallic Mg particles (Mg NPs) by lithium naphthalene (Li-naphthalene) in soluble PMMA/THF system, exhibits an excellent H 2 storage performance and do not require harsh operation condition. In order to form well-distributed Mg NPs (co. 5 nm) in PMMA gel framework, it is an important procedure to mix Mg ion and Li-naphthalene completely, as well the restriction effect of polymer molecular chain . The synthesized mechanism of nanocomposite and the optimal reaction conditions were ascertained by designing a series of experiments. Notably, PMMA can not confined the size of metallic Mg by blending method, and the mixed β/γ-Mg presents nearly no ability to adsorb hydrogen. Here, the air stable Mg NPs is in-situ reduced in PMMA can be reacted with H 2 , and O 2 and H 2 O molecules can not be infiltrated into PMMA. The correlation between the size of Mg NPs, the amount of PMMA and hydrogen storage performance for the PMMA-Mg NPs composite (PMC) is studied. We have found that hydrogen storage capacity of PMC could be enhanced as decreasing the size of Mg NPs by adjusting the amount of PMMA. The Mg NPs in PMMA might release the higher amount of H 2 at below 300 °C with a rapid absorption/desorption kinetics than the reported material in literature. The obtained nanocomposite are able to deliver dense hydrogen in demanding environments.

Solid-state electrolytes (SSEs) hold a critical role in enabling high-energy-density and safe rechargeable batteries with Li metal anode. Unfortunately, nonuniform lithium deposition and dendrite penetration due to poor interfacial solid–solid contact are hindering their practical applications. Here, solid-state lithium naphthalenide (Li-Naph(s)) is introduced as a plastic monolithic mixed-conducting interlayer (PMMCI) between the garnet electrolyte and the Li anode via a facile cold process. The thin PMMCI shows a well-ordered layered crystalline structure with excellent mixed-conducting capability for both Li + (4.38 × 10 –3 S cm –1 ) and delocalized electrons (1.01 × 10 –3 S cm –1 ). In contrast to previous composite interlayers, this monolithic material enables an intrinsically homogenous electric field and Li + transport at the Li/garnet interface, thus significantly reducing the interfacial resistance and achieving uniform and dendrite-free Li anode plating/stripping. As a result, Li symmetric cells with the PMMCI-modified garnet electrolyte show highly stable cycling for 1200 h at 0.2 mA cm –2 and 500 h at a high current density of 1 mA cm –2 . The findings provide a new interface design strategy for solid-state batteries using monolithic mixed-conducting interlayers.

Silicon monoxide (SiOx, x ∼ 1) has emerged as a highly promising candidate for high-energy-density lithium-ion batteries due to its high specific capacity and suitable working potential. Nevertheless, the formation of a large quantity of irreversible products, such as Li2O and lithium silicates, during the initial lithiation process results in a low initial coulombic efficiency (ICE) of SiOx, which is a significant impediment to its commercial application. To overcome this limitation, two lithium aromatic complexes, namely, lithium-naphthalene-2-methyl-tetrahydrofuran (N-LAC) and lithium-biphenyl-2-methyl-tetrahydrofuran (B-LAC), with a low redox potential are used to pre-lithiate SiOx anodes. The differences in lithiation kinetics and efficacy of the two LAC solutions are identified and assessed by scrutinizing the pre-lithiation process of SiOx materials. It is revealed that both pre-lithiation agents produce solid electrolyte interphase (SEI) films on the material surface enriched with substances such as LiF, Li2CO3, and ROCO2Li, but the LiF content in the SEI of the N-LAC pre-lithiated electrode is significantly higher. Furthermore, the surface roughness of the N-LAC pre-lithiated electrode is lower, and the horizontal distribution of mechanical properties and surface potential tend to be more homogeneous, even during cycling, at approximately the same degree of lithiation. The results indicate that the N-LAC solutions not only improve the ICE of the SiOx material but also optimize the interfacial and structural stability of the SiOx electrode. When the pre-lithiated SiOx anode is paired with lithium-rich layered oxide cathode materials, the energy density and ICE are significantly improved compared to the cell using pristine SiOx anode.
