Dual-modal optical temperature sensing based on Sb3+/Mn2+ co-doped Cs2NaYCl6 double perovskites

Huabiao Tao,Yuyin Fang,Yuanpeng Zhang,Yuepin Zhang,Jianxu Hu

Optical temperature sensing based on luminescence intensity ratio shows significant potential in achieving accurate temperature detection. In this work, Sb 3+ /Mn 2+ co-doped Cs 2 NaYCl 6 double perovskites were synthesised via a hydrothermal method . Introducing Sb 3+ ions to the host significantly enhances the radiative recombination of self-trapped excitons (STEs), resulting in a broad blue emission. The co-doping of Mn 2+ ions to the composition leads to a tunable dual-emission in the spectra, originating from the energy transfer between the STEs and Mn 2+ ions. The dependence of the dual-emission on temperature is employed for optical temperature sensing. The maximum relative sensitivity, optimal thermal resolution, and optimal thermal repeatability are determined as 1.40 % K −1 , 0.002 K and 99.3% at 250 K, respectively. The results indicate that the synthesised Cs 2 NaYCl 6 : Sb 3+ /Mn 2+ double perovskites are promising candidates for high-sensitivity optical thermometers.

Near room temperature synthesis of Cs2InCl5-xBrx·H2O (x = 0–5) perovskites with tunable yellow to red emissions

Fan Chen,Xiao-Jun Wang,Xuehu Zhang,Changhua Zhang

Lead-free halide perovskites have recently evoked considerable interest in illumination and display, due to their intriguing optical properties . Herein, we present an efficient and facile strategy to prepare Cs 2 InCl 5-x Br x ·H 2 O (x = 0–5) perovskites . The preparation was performed at a low temperature of 80 °C under atmospheric pressure, and required no complex technological process. Comparing with that prepared by the traditional hydrothermal method , the emission intensity of the prepared Cs 2 InX 5 ·H 2 O (X = Cl/Br) perovskites were increased by two times. Besides, Sb 3+ ions were successfully doped into the matrix of Cs 2 InX 5 ·H 2 O (X = Cl/Br) by our method. After doping with Sb 3+ , the emission intensities of Cs 2 InX 5 ·H 2 O were greatly enhanced, with enhanced by a factor of ∼187 and ∼102, respectively. Importantly, the PLQYs were greatly improved, reaching 79.6% and 42.7%, respectively. Additionally, the effects of Br − on luminescent properties of Cs 2 InCl 5-x Br x ·H 2 O:Sb 3+ (x = 0–5) were also investigated in this work. Though the control of the Br − content, tunable emissions from 575 nm to 630 nm were achieved. These results indicate the prepared samples could be promising environmentally-friendly materials for lightings. Furthermore, this work presents a reliable and simple method for preparing high-quality perovskites.

Bright tunable luminescence of Sb3+ doping in zero-dimensional lead-free halide Cs3ZnCl5 perovskite crystals

Xiaoxia Liu,Weibing Zhang,Rui Xu,Jiayu Tu,Guoyong Fang,Yuexiao Pan

Lead-free zero-dimensional (0D) perovskite nanocrystals (NCs) with isolated octahedral structures have attracted considerable attention due to their unique photoelectric properties, such as highly efficient emissions with broadband features. A series of phosphors composed of Sb3+-doped 0D perovskite crystals Cs3ZnCl5 with wavelength-tunable emission spectra have been obtained using a facile recrystallization method at room temperature in air. By controlling the doping concentration of Sb3+ in Cs3ZnCl5 lattice, bright emissions from red to orange have been achieved under excitation at 320 nm due to the expansion of the crystal lattice, and the emission excited at 275 nm is bluish-white, spanning the full visible region. Inductively coupled plasma emission spectrometry (ICP) demonstrates the Sb3+ substitutes for Zn2+ rather than Cs+ due to the similar charges and ionic radii. The luminescence performance of phosphor Cs3ZnCl5:Sb3+ can be improved obviously by replacing 3 mol% of Cs+ with Rb+ or K+ due to the further distortion of the crystal lattice. The present approach allows the synthesis of large-scale emissive lead-free 0D perovskites activated by Sb3+ with tunable luminescence color.

Revealing the Emission Mechanism in Sb3+-Doped All-Inorganic Cadmium Chloride Perovskite

Xiangyan Yun,Yasin Muhammad,Bo Zhou,Zexiang Liu,Shaofan Fang,Hanlin Hu,Ye Wang,Haizhe Zhong,Henan Li,Yumeng Shi

Sb3+ doping endows many metal halide perovskites with diverse and efficient self-trapped exciton (STE) emissions. However, whether the source of STEs is the Sb3+ doping center or the pristine host remains unclear. In this study, we investigated the aliovalent Sb3+-doped RbCdCl3. Spectroscopic analyses before and after annealing showed that the Sb3+ dopant exists as [SbCl5·H2O]2–, which has vastly different optical behavior compared with [SbCl6]3– in other Rb-rich systems. The desorption of the coordinated water molecule results in a significant blue shift of the photoluminescence spectrum from 590 to 515 nm, verifying that environmental polarity has a large effect on STE behavior. Additionally, significant changes were observed in the absorption and photoluminescence excitation spectra of the Sb3+ color centers, while no obvious changes in the host structure were observed. The precise control of the Sb3+ coordination environment provided direct evidence that the STE emission originates from the Sb3+ center. These results clarify the underlying source of STEs in vacancy-related aliovalent ion-doped systems and may guide the design of emerging metal halide perovskite luminescent materials.

BSA activated CdTe quantum dot nanosensor for antimony ion detection

Shenguang Ge,Congcong Zhang,Yuanna Zhu,Jinghua Yu,Shuangshuang Zhang

A novel fluorescent nanosensor for Sb3+ determination was reported based on thioglycolic acid (TGA)-capped CdTe quantum dot (QD) nanoparticles. It was the first antimony ion sensor using QD nanoparticles in a receptor-fluorophore system. The water-soluable TGA-capped CdTe QDs were prepared through a hydrothermal route, NaHTe was used as the Te precursor for CdTe QDs synthesis. Bovine serum albumin (BSA) conjugated to TGA-capped CdTe via an amide link interacting with carboxyl of the TGA-capped CdTe. When antimony ion enters the BSA, the lone pair electrons of the nitrogen and oxygen atom become involved in the coordination, switching off the QD emission and a dramatic quenching of the fluorescence intensity results, allowing the detection of low concentrations of antimony ions. Using the operating principle, the antimony ion sensor based on QD nanoparticles showed a very good linearity in the range 0.10–22.0 μg L−1, with the detection limit lower than 2.94 × 10−8 g L−1 and the relative standard deviation (RSD) 2.54% (n = 6). In a study of interferences, the antimony-sensitive TGA-QD-BSA sensor showed good selectivity. Therefore, a simple, fast, sensitive, and highly selective assay for antimony has been built. The presented method has been applied successfully to the determination of antimony in real water samples (n = 6) with satisfactory results.

Efficient Multicolor and White Photoluminescence in Erbium- and Holmium-Incorporated Cs2NaInCl6:Sb3+ Double Perovskites

Jingheng Nie,Bo Zhou,Shaofan Fang,Haizhe Zhong,Henan Li,Yumeng Shi

Inorganic lead-free halide perovskites with a broad-band emission of self-trapped excitons (STEs) have attracted great attention in lighting applications. However, it remains a fundamental challenge to expand the display color gamut because it is difficult to individually tune the emitting proportion at different wavelengths. Herein, we employ a doping route to incorporate Sb3+, Er3+, and Ho3+ ions into the Cs2NaInCl6, which enables multicolor emissions with narrow full width at half-maxima and high photoluminescence quantum yields (PLQYs). The blue emission (445 nm) originates from STEs in the [SbCl6]3– octahedrons, while the narrowband green (550 nm) and red (655 nm) emissions are mainly derived from the Er3+ and Ho3+ ions, respectively. An efficient energy transfer between multiple luminescent centers is the key point to achieve such an efficient and tunable emission. By controlling the lanthanide doping level, the emission color can be systematically modulated, and cold 10401 K (0.278, 0.286) to warm 4608 K (0.347, 0.298) adjustable white-light emission (PLQY of ∼70%) can be achieved successfully. The results provide inspiration for the material design of lead-free perovskites with efficient and tunable light-emitting properties for optoelectronic applications.

Sb3+/Sm3+ Codoped Cs2NaScCl6 All-Inorganic Double Perovskite: Blue Emission of Self-Trapped Excitons and Red-Emission via Energy Transfer

Xunliang Jiang,Haoqing Ding,Fengxi Yang,Fusheng Luo,Zhixing Gan,Zhiping Fan,Fei Gao,Zhenzhi Cheng,Guangsheng Luo,Weiping Zhou

The lead-free halide perovskites possess nontoxicity and excellent chemical stability, whereas relatively weak luminescence intensity limits their potential in practical applications. Therefore, strengthening the luminescence intensity and expanding application fields are urgent tasks for the development of lead-free halide perovskites. In this paper, antimony-doped Cs2NaScCl6 crystals synthesized by a solvothermal method emit bright, deep blue photoluminescence at 447 nm. The photoluminescence (PL), photoluminescence excitation (PLE), and absorption spectra demonstrate that Sb3+ doping effectively activate the intrinsic “dark self-trapped exciton (STE),” leading to an impressive photoluminescence quantum yield (PLQY) value of 78.31% for 1% Sb3+ doping. Furthermore, the luminescence intensity remains above 92% compared with the fresh sample without secondary phases detected even after 90 days under environmental conditions. To expand the emission spectra, rare-earth Sm3+ is further incorporated into Cs2NaScCl6:1% Sb3+ crystals. The results show that Sb ions not only enhance intrinsic STE luminescence but also serve as sensitizers to boost the red-light emission of Sm3+, leading to a significant 500-fold increase in red emission intensity. Finally, the PLQY reaches a stunning 86.78%. These findings provide valuable insights in the design of Sb ion-doped lead-free double perovskites, broadening the application fields in various optoelectronic devices.

Tunable photoluminescence in Sb3+-doped zero-dimensional hybrid metal halides with intrinsic and extrinsic self-trapped excitons

Jun Zhou,Mingze Li,Maxim S. Molokeev,Jiayue Sun,Denghui Xu,Zhiguo Xia

Dopants in luminescent metal halides provide an alternative way for photoluminescence tuning towards versatile optical applications. Here we report a trivalent antimony (Sb3+)-doped single crystalline 0D metal halide with the composition of (C9NH20)9[Pb3Cl11](ZnCl4)2:Sb3+. This compound possessed the coexistence of two emission centers including intrinsic and extrinsic self-trapped excitons (STEs), which are ascribed to [Pb3Cl11]5− clusters and triplet STEs formed by the 3P1–1S0 transition of Sb3+. By regulating the Sb3+ concentration, the emission can be tuned from green to yellow and finally to orange, which would help to develop optically pumped white light-emitting diodes (WLEDs) with different photometric characteristics. Moreover, this dopant-induced extrinsic STE approach presents a new direction towards tuning the luminescence properties of 0D metal halides, and may find application in environmentally-friendly, high-performance metal halide light emitters.

Modified luminescent properties from green afterglow to efficient orange emission in zirconium-based organometallic chloride scintillator by Sb3+ doping

R. Teng,P. Cai,X. Pu,X. Wang,Q. Ai,J. Si,X. Yao,Z. Liu

Zero-dimension (0D) metal halides based on metals with the 5s 2 lone pair have attracted great attentions due to their strong triplet broadband emission. However, the conversion from weak afterglow to efficient and fast photoluminescence by regulating the composition of 0D metal halides is still a tough challenge. Herein, Sb 3+ ions-doped 0D (Ph 4 P) 2 ZrCl 6 ·4CH 3 CN metal halides were synthesized by a simple solution crystallization method. Compared with the weak triplet green 560 nm afterglow from the organic Ph 4 P + components, the emission of the Sb 3+ -doped material exhibits a strong orange photoluminescence at 660 nm with a high photoluminescence quantum yield of 72% by a host to dopant energy transfer process. In addition, a flexible large-sized X-ray scintillator screen with an area of 16 cm 2 was prepared using polydimethylsiloxane as the host matrix, which exhibits excellent scintillation properties with light yields of 8,290 photons/MeV, low detectable limits of 0.986 μGy/s, and a near-infrared broadband emission from 600 nm to 850 nm under steady-state X-ray excitation, which is highly compatible with the response range of the long-wave sensitive silicon-based photodetectors . Therefore, this work not only provides a deep insight into the energy transfer process in the 0D metal halide materials but also opens an alternative approach to realize flexible large-size near-infrared X-ray imaging based on the 0D metal halide scintillator.

Stable Broadband Bright Green Emission of Self-trapped Excitons Triggered by Sb3+ Doping in Zero-Dimensional Cs3BiCl6

Rong Chen,Shanping Wang,Fang Lin,Yongzhuo Zheng,Wanxv Zhang,Juan Wang,Fengwan Guo

Graphical In this article, all inorganic Cs 3 BiCl 6 perovskite single crystals with a 0D structure have been synthesized by the anti-solvent crystallization method. There is no obvious photoluminescence (PL) phenomenon for Cs 3 BiCl 6 at room temperature (RT) under ultraviolet light. Subsequently, we introduced Sb 3+ into Cs 3 BiCl 6 to obtain Cs 3 BiCl 6 : Sb, of which the Stokes shift is 175 nm, and full-width-at-half-maxima (FWHM) is 132 nm. By adjusting the doping concentration of Sb 3+ , the PL quantum yield (PLQY) of Cs 3 BiCl 6 : Sb was increased to 15.85 %, which has a microsecond PL lifetime and good environmental stability. Through a series of tests and characterization, we determined that the broadband emission of Cs 3 BiCl 6 : Sb originated from self-trapped exciton emission (STEs). Low-dimensional lead-based metal halide perovskites (MHPs) have many exceptional photoelectric capabilities thanks to the 6 s 2 electron structure of lead ion (Pb 2+ ). Pb 2+ ′s toxicity, however, has prevented its widespread development and use. Finding ions in the valence layer that have a comparable electrical structure thus makes sense as Pb 2+ replacements. In this work, all inorganic zero-dimensional (0D) Cs 3 BiCl 6 single crystal was synthesized by the anti-solvent crystallization method. There is no obvious photoluminescence (PL) phenomenon for Cs 3 BiCl 6 at room temperature (RT). It is found that the extremely strong exciton-phonon interaction leads to seriously non-radiative recombination. After doping with Sb 3+ , Cs 3 BiCl 6 : Sb achieved broadband emission with a significant Stokes shift, the photoluminescence quantum yield (PLQY) up to 15.85 %, which has a microsecond PL decay lifetime and excellent environmental stability. Systematic spectroscopic characterizations unveil the PL mechanism of Cs 3 BiCl 6 : Sb is self-trapped excitons (STEs) emission, and theoretical calculation revealed the indirect bandgap properties of Cs 3 BiCl 6 and Cs 3 BiCl 6 : Sb.

Ultrabroadband (Vis-NIR) Emission in Single-Component Perovskite LEDs via Tailored Multi-Exciton Energy Transfer Pathways

Yuxiang Xin,Jianru Wang,Xiaoli Gao,Yang Yang,Jianbing Zhang,Jiang Tang,Zhuolei Zhang

The development of ultrabroadband light sources spanning the visible (Vis) to near-infrared (NIR) range is of fundamental importance for cutting-edge applications in communication, metrology, and quantum technologies. Although phosphor-converted LEDs have extended emission, they still suffer from spectral gaps, inadequate color rendering, and constrained NIR output. Here, a promising approach is introduced by tailoring multi-exciton energy transfer pathways to realize ultrabroadband Vis-to-NIR emission in Sb 3 ⁺/Ln 3 ⁺ co-doped vacancy-ordered Cs₂HfCl₆ perovskite nanocrystals. By systematically optimizing Sb 3 ⁺ and Ln 3 ⁺ doping concentrations, excitation wavelengths, and lanthanide ion selection, the energy transfer pathways between singlet and triplet self-trapped exciton (STE) states and lanthanide energy levels are modulated. This design facilitates broad spectral tunability through energy distribution control among emission centers, improves radiative efficiency by reducing energy losses during transfer processes, and promotes stable performance by mitigating excessive energy accumulation. The resulting single-component LED based on Sb 3 ⁺/Pr 3 ⁺ co-doped NCs delivers broadband emission extending to ≈1200 nm, high spectral quality (CRI ∼ 98.1, R9 ∼ 98), strong visible/NIR PLQY (≈80%), and steady operation over 50 h. The findings provide insight into energy transfer engineering in low-dimensional perovskites and offer a viable route toward emerging ultrabroadband solid-state light sources.

Turning self-trapped exciton emission via Sb3+ doping in zero-dimensional hybrid indium chloride for X-ray scintillation

Haoze Wang,Wenzhi Li,Kaining Wang,Hong Yin,Xin Mao,Ruiling Zhang

Zero-dimensional (0D) hybrid indium halides have recently received great attention for their potential as X-ray scintillators due to their non-toxicity, superior optical properties and exceptional stability. However, most indium halides suffer from low emission efficiency, resulting in inferior performance. Herein, we demonstrate that a small amount of Sb 3+ doping can greatly enhance the photoluminescence efficiency of a 0D hybrid indium chloride, DMA 4 InCl 7 . The pristine crystals exhibit weak self-trapped exciton (STE) emission centered at 620 nm with a low quantum yield of 11%. After Sb 3+ doping, the STE emission efficiency can be greatly increased to 91%. The spectroscopic experiments and theoretical calculations indicate the efficient energy transfer from excited Sb 3+ ions to the emitting STE state of the host is responsible for the substantial increase in emission efficiency. Furthermore, we find the energy transfer efficiency is related to the distance between dopants and [InCl 6 ] 3- units. The strong STE emission endows the doped samples with desirable X-ray scintillation performance, with a high light yield of 23500 photons/MeV and a low detection limit of 175 nGy air ·s −1 .
