In this paper, two disposable screen-printed antimony film electrodes (SPSbFEs) modified with multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) and ionic liquid 1-butyl-3-methylimidazolium tetrafluoroborate ([Bmim]BF 4 ), respectively for electrochemical stripping measurement are introduced. The modified screen-printed electrode substrate was prepared by homogeneously doping the attractive material into the graphite-based printing ink, and then an antimony film was in situ formed by simultaneously electrodepositing the antimony precursor with interesting analytes on the modified substrate. The electroanalytical performance of the modified SPSbFE for heavy metals based on the anodic stripping protocol was intensively evaluated. It was found that stripping voltammetric measurements of mercury (II) and lead (II) at the modified SPSbFEs resulted in good peaks with very low background contribution. In comparison with the bare SPSbFE, the modifications of both MWCNTs and [Bmim]BF 4 were demonstrated providing more sensitive responses. The results indicated that the SPSbFE modified with 4 wt% [Bmim]BF 4 exhibited well linear behavior in the mercury (II) concentration range from 20 to 140 μg/L ( R 2 = 0.998) with a detection limit of 0.36 μg/L (S/N = 3) under a 120 s accumulation, and good repeatability with a relative standard deviation (RSD) of 4.16% (40 μg/L, n = 12). The proposed electrodes, as new styles of “mercury-free” electrodes, also exhibit encouraging properties for measurements of practical samples.

In this work, a simple and reliable electrochemical method for the determination of cadmium using an antimony film modified sodium montmorillonite (NaMM) doped carbon paste electrode (Sb/NaMM-CPE) was described. Due to the strong cation exchange ability and adsorptive characteristics of NaMM and excellent electroanalytical performance of the antimony film, the new electrode significantly enhanced the sensitivity for detection of Cd(II) and exhibited superior performance in comparison with the bare carbon paste electrode, antimony film modified carbon paste electrode (Sb/CPE), and NaMM modified carbon paste electrode (NaMM-CPE). Some parameters such as the composition of the paste, pH of the measure solution, the Sb(III) concentration, deposition time, and deposition potential that influenced the response of cadmium were investigated and the procedure was optimized for cadmium determination. This electrode, combined with square-wave anodic stripping voltammetry, displayed excellent linear behavior in the examined concentration range of 4.0–150.0 μg L −1 Cd(II) ( R 2 = 0.998) with a detection limit of 0.25 μg L −1 . The Sb/NaMM-CPE was successfully applied to the determination of cadmium ion in tap water sample.

We have developed a sensor for the square wave anodic stripping voltammetric determination of Pb(II). A glassy carbon electrode was modified with a thin film of an antimony/poly(p-aminobenzene sulfonic acid) composite in air-saturated aqueous solution of pH 2.0. Compared to a conventional antimony film electrode, the new one yields a larger stripping signal for Pb(II). The conditions of polymerization, the concentration of Sb(III), the pH value of the sample solution, the deposition potential and time, frequency, potential amplitude, and step increment potential were optimized. Under the optimum conditions, a linear response was observed for Pb(II) in the range of 0.5 to 150.0 μg L −1 . The detection limit for Pb(II) is 0.1 μg L −1 .
The surface of a glassy carbon electrode (GCE) was modified by electropolymerization of p-aminobenzene sulfonic acid (p-ABSA) and the modified electrode was then prepared by in situ depositing antimony and target metal on the poly(p-ABSA) coated glassy carbon electrode. The antimony/poly(p-ABSA) film electrode displays high electrochemical activity in giving a peak current that is proportional to the concentration of Pb(II) in a certain range.

The accumulation of lead (Pb 2+ ) and cadmium (Cd 2+ ) in the human body can lead to significant long-term health risks. Urine is an essential biological sample that reflects the accumulation of metals in the body, and an invaluable source of monitoring information. Consequently, it is crucial to develop methods that enable the highly sensitive and selective detection of Pb 2+ and Cd 2+ concentrations in urine. In this study, a composite material of carboxylated multi-walled carbon nanotubes (CMWCNTs) and Nafion was synthesised and used to fabricate a modified glassy carbon electrode (GCE) via drop-casting, followed by the potentiostatic deposition of an antimony (Sb) film. Differential pulse stripping voltammetry (DPSV) was used for the quantitative analysis of Pb 2+ and Cd 2+ in urine, with experimental conditions carefully optimised. The results showed a strong linear relationship between the peak current and the concentration of Pb 2+ /Cd 2+ within a 2–100 μg·L −1 range. The detection limits for Pb 2+ and Cd 2+ were 0.46 and 0.38 μg·L −1 , respectively. When applied to actual urine samples, the modified electrode demonstrated excellent performance, achieving spiked recovery rates of 96.53–103.35 % for Pb 2+ and 93.87–96.59 % for Cd 2+ . These findings indicated that the proposed method effectively detected trace amounts of Pb 2+ and Cd 2+ in urine, offering a promising tool to monitor Pb 2+ and Cd 2+ in biological specimens.
