As an important organelle, the main function of the Golgi apparatus is to further modify and deliver proteins synthesized by the endoplasmic reticulum (ER). Dyshomeostasis of the Golgi appartus can cause many serious diseases. Therefore, monitoring the normal functioning of the Golgi appartus is particularly important. However, only a few commercially Golgi markers are available till now. In this work, three 1,8-naphthalimide related Golgi markers ( 4a - c ) with the combination of amide and long carbon chain were designed and synthesized, their maximum emission wavelengths could reach 500–575 nm with high fluorescence quantum yields . Moreover, they possessed low cytotoxicity (cell viabilities >82%). Cell experiments exhibited that dyes 4a - c could rapidly and accurately mark the Golgi apparatus. To discuss the origin of their targeting ability, compounds 5–7 with independent amide or long carbon chain were additionally prepared. With the separation of amide and long carbon chain in compound 5 – 7 , the targeting ability was lost. The experiments showed that the targeting ability of 4a - c resulted from the combination of amide and long carbon chain structure. Also, the results may provide a new idea for designing organelle markers.
Aqueous emulsion homo- and co-polymerization of lauryl methacrylate (LMA), a strong hydrophobic monomer with long carbon chain, is quite challenging. In this study, a long carbon chain emulsifier N-390 was used as the primary emulsifier to facilitate the emulsion copolymerization of LMA with other acrylate monomers through the mutual hydrophobic interaction between N-390 and LMA, and ultimately polyacrylate latex pressure sensitive adhesives modified by LMA via pre-emulsified semi-continuous seeded emulsion polymerization process were synthesized. The effects of LMA on the resulting latex and PSA properties was comprehensively examined. Both FTIR and 1H NMR spectra indicated that LMA has been successfully introduced into copolymer chain with the aid of long carbon chain emulsifier N-390. The results also showed that the introduction of LMA will contribute to decrease in particle size and zeta potential, while increase viscosity and gel content of the acrylate PSA latex. Moreover, as the LMA content increased, the latex PSA films demonstrated gradual improvements in both water resistance and thermal stability. Finally, for the long carbon chains adhesive film, the shear strength was improved greatly while at the sacrifice of loop tack and peel strength, when compared to counterparts without LMA.
The long carbon chain monomer modified polyacrylate latex was successfully prepared by semi-continuous seeded emulsion polymerization. In this work, methyl methacrylate and butyl acrylate were used as main monomers; stearyl acrylate was used as functional monomer, which were emulsified with the novel mixed surfactants of disodium laureth sulfosuccinate (AEMES) and alkylphenol ethoxylates (OP-10) and initiated with 2,2′-azobis (2-methyl propion- amidine) dihydrochloride initiator. The structure of the resultant latex was characterized by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy. The differential scanning calorimetry, thermogravimetric analysis and contact angle were used to test the properties of the latex film. The particle size of the latex was measured by the Zetatrac dynamic light scattering detector. Factors, which have an influence on the properties of the latex and its film, have been investigated in detail. Results show that the optimal condition of synthesizing the latex is as follows: the amount of emulsifiers is 4%; the mass ratio of AEMES to OP-10 is 3:1; the amount of initiator is 0.7%; the content of SA is 6%.
