The accumulation of ice and frost in cold environments severely disrupts the normal operation of equipment, making it essential to develop functional surfaces that can delay ice/frost formation and enable rapid removal. Unlike traditional superhydrophobic coatings that rely solely on passive ice delay, this study proposes a novel design integrating both passive ice-delay and active photothermal deicing functionalities. The strategy involves incorporating fluorinated multi-walled carbon nanotube (f-MWCNTs) into an epoxy (EP) matrix to form a hierarchical rough structure while exploiting their strong light absorption capability to impart photothermal responsiveness. The results indicate that after optimizing the filler-to-resin ratio, the coating achieved a water contact angle (WCA) of 156°, a water sliding angle (WSA) of 3.5°, and a light absorption rate of up to 97.49 %, demonstrating both excellent superhydrophobicity and high light absorption properties; at −10 °C, the icing delay time is extended by more than four times compared to the substrate, which is primarily attributed to the air layers within the rough structure effectively retarding heat transfer. At room temperature, the surface temperature increased by 30 °C within 300 s under 1.0 sun irradiation, while under −10 °C, the same irradiation achieved complete ice removal within 6 min, attributable to the exceptional photothermal conversion efficiency of MWCNTs. Moreover, the coating maintained its superhydrophobicity after water impact, sand impact, and tape-peeling tests, demonstrating good mechanical durability, which is primarily attributed to the robust cross-linked network formed between the f-MWCNTs and EP. Overall, the coating provides a promising strategy for anti-icing applications in power transmission, aerospace, and wind energy systems.

In the field of biomimetic electronics, flexible sensors with both high resolution and large size are attracting a lot of attention. However, attempts to increase the number of sensor pixels have been thwarted by the need for complex inner circuits and the resulting interferences with the output. Technological challenges, such as real-time spatiotemporal mapping and long-time reliability, must be resolved for large-scale sensor matrices. This paper reports a simple and robust sensor with an arch-bridge architecture (ABA) to address these challenges. The device, which consists of an anti-icing all-transparent material system, is fabricated by immobilizing ABA ionic arrays on predefined grooves on the substrate. It systematically integrates ABA structure-designing, resistance-position-sensing, and parallel-addressing logic, allowing for an improvement of three orders of magnitude in the scanning speed (million-scale pixels) without logical “diagnose confusion.” In addition, it can withstand 100 000 stretching cycles without functional failure. It is also resistant to interferences from stretching. humidity, wet surfaces, and power lines. The proposed strategy is envisaged to serve as a general solution for high-density, large-area tactile sensors in various applications.

A mechanically robust superhydrophobic ceramic armor with a hybrid frame/protrusion microstructure was fabricated using nanosecond laser technology. This architecture exhibited exceptional durability, enduring 1000 cycles of linear abrasion (3 N load), 40 high-pressure water jet impact (1.0 MPa), and prolonged thermal exposure (100 °C for 18 days). The armored surface demonstrated superior anti-icing performance, accelerating droplet shedding (no adhesion for 2 h), delaying ice nucleation by approximately threefold, and maintaining ice adhesion strength below 35 kPa after 30 freeze-thaw cycles. The simplified fabrication process, requiring minimal surface precision, underscores its potential for scalable industrial deployment.
