In this study, polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) nanofibrous membranes containing silver nanoparticles (Ag NPs) were successfully fabricated by the combination of electrospinning and a green reduction approach. Through the electrospinning technique, uniform and smooth nanofibres can be obtained, and the Ag NPs with a narrow size distributions are well dispersed in PVA nanofibres. The investigation indicates that the mass ratio of reductant tea polyphenols and AgNO3 play a crucial role in controlling the size of the Ag NPs. More importantly, multi-layered fabrics with a layer of PVA/Ag NP nanofibrous membrane layered onto cotton substrates were developed and applied to shoe insoles. The fabricated shoe insoles with functionalized PVA nanofibres exhibit remarkable antimicrobial activity against both E. coli and S. aureus (i.e. antibacterial rate > 99%). The creation of such an encouraging fabric could establish a new optimization methodology for producing nanoengineered functional textiles.

Traditional hydrogels tend to freeze and lose performance at low temperatures, limiting their applications. Additionally, hydrogels need to exhibit low hysteresis, excellent cycling stability, and self-adhesion to ensure high-quality signal acquisition in complex environments. To address this challenge, this study designed a dual-network gel in a glycerol (Gly)/H 2 O solvent system. Due to the combination of chemical and physical crosslinking (hydrogen bonding and electrostatic interactions), the resulting gel exhibits skin-adaptive modulus, high cycling stability, anti-freezing ability, body temperature-induced adhesion, and excellent electrical performance, making it suitable for wearable sensors at low temperatures. Based on this gel, a single-electrode triboelectric nanogenerator (gel-TENG) is developed, achieving efficient conversion of mechanical energy into electrical energy. Further applied to a smart insole, it successfully enabled real-time visualization of plantar pressure distribution and skiing motion recognition. Using a random forest machine learning algorithm, the system accurately classified 11 basic skiing motions, achieving a classification accuracy of 97.1%. This study advances flexible sensors and self-powered systems, supporting intelligent materials research in extreme environments.

Gait analysis is an important assessment tool for analyzing vital signals collected from individuals and for providing physical information of the human body, and it is emerging in a diverse range of application scenarios, such as disease diagnosis, fall prevention, rehabilitation, and human–robot interaction. Herein, a kind of surface processed conductive rubber was designed and investigated to develop a pressure-sensitive insole to monitor planar pressure in a real-time manner. Due to a novel surface processing method, the pressure sensor was characterized by stable contact resistance, simple manufacturing, and high mechanical durability. In the experiments, it was demonstrated that the developed pressure sensors were easily assembled with the inkjet-printed electrodes and a flexible substrate as a pressure-sensitive insole while maintaining good sensing performance. Moreover, resistive signals were wirelessly transmitted to computers in real time. By analyzing sampled resistive data combined with the gait information monitored by a visual-based reference system based on machine learning method (k-Nearest Neighbor algorithm), the corresponding relationship between plantar pressure distribution and lower limb joint angles was obtained. Finally, the experimental validation of the ability to accurately divide gait into several phases was conducted, illustrating the potential application of the developed device in healthcare and robotics. Keywords:gait phase;insole sensors;surface processing;inkjet printing;visual-based reference;machine learning

The trends of wearable health monitoring systems have led to growing demands for gait-capturing devices. However, comfortability and durability under repeated stress are still challenging to achieve in existing sensor-enabled footwear. Herein, a flexible textile piezoresistive sensor (TPRS) consisting of a reduced graphene oxide (rGO)-cotton) fabric electrode and an Ag fabric circuit electrode is proposed. Based on the mechanical and electrical properties of the two fabric electrodes, the TPRS exhibits superior sensing performance, with a high sensitivity of 3.96 kPa-1 in the lower pressure range of 0–36 kPa, wide force range (0–100 kPa), fast response time (170 ms), remarkable durability stability (1000 cycles) and detection ability in different pressures ranges. For the prac-tical application of capturing plantar pressure, six TPRSs were mounted on a flexible printed circuit board and integrated into an insole. The dynamic plantar pressure distribution during walking was derived in the form of pressure maps. The proposed fully-textile piezoresistive sensor is a strong candidate for next-generation plantar pressure wearable monitoring devices. Keywords:textile piezoresistive sensor (TPRS);rGO-cotton fabric electrode;Ag fabric circuit electrode;insole;dynamic plantar pressure

Incorporating biomass (e.g., bacterial cellulose, BC) pressure-sensing structures into plantar monitoring technologies could effectively defend users against insecure wear and inaccurate detection, while their capability in sensing pressure continuously when subjected to large pressure is hindered by their natural two-dimensional structure. Here, we present a microbial engineering strategy for fabricating hierarchical fully biomass pressure sensors (HFBPSs) with sufficient sensing capabilities and good structural stability for plantar pressure detection. Particularly, the incorporation of the biobased material loofah enables HFBPS to adopt a hierarchical structure from micro- and nanostructured sensing networks, allowing for dynamic changes in the series-parallel configuration of the circuit under large pressure. This innovative structure design breaks the bottleneck of low operating range encountered by traditional rigid two-dimensional BC pressure sensors, ensuring the HFBPS with ultrahigh sensitivity (2.82 kPa–1) and wide detection range (0–600 kPa). In addition to stably monitoring gait motions, the HFBPS integrated into smart insoles can recognize nonstandard Tai Chi movements. Our HFBPS with exceptional pressure-sensing performance provides significant impact on the future development of smart insoles for plantar monitoring.

In the field of wearable health monitoring, asymmetric adhesion presents a core challenge in achieving long-term comfort and safety. Conventional symmetric adhesion materials are prone to contaminant accumulation due to their strong adhesion across the entire surface. This study constructs an asymmetric adhesion interface featuring covalent strong adhesion on the top surface (53.2 kPa) and anti-adhesion on the spontaneously settling bottom surface (2 kPa) within a poly(acrylic acid)-chitosan system, utilizing an innovative dynamic chemical gradient self-assembly strategy. Furthermore, we developed a conductive hydrogel designed as a hydrogel strain sensor, exhibiting exceptional mechanical properties (2135 %) and high electrical conductivity (1.2 S/m), enabling the monitoring of various motor activities in the human body. This hydrogel can also function as a skin surface electrode for long-term, high-fidelity ECG and EMG signal capture. Additionally, we prepared a hydrogel-friction electric nanogenerator that serves dual purposes: energy harvesting and pressure sensing. An integrated flexible smart insole system was also designed, demonstrating outstanding performance in monitoring and diagnosing Parkinson's symptoms. Among various models employing different algorithms, the convolutional neural network achieved the highest accuracy (97.4 %) in recognizing Parkinson's gait. This system offers a novel tool for monitoring and recognizing Parkinson's gait, facilitating the tracking of rehabilitation processes and personalized treatment planning, thus showcasing its potential for groundbreaking applications in wearable medical monitoring.

Wearable pressure sensors with highly sensitive and wide detection ranges are essential for human motion monitoring. In this work, a self-assembled hybrid aerogel was obtained by polyacrylonitrile nanofibers, polyaniline, and reduced graphene oxide. Based on the complementation of 1D and 2D nanomaterials, the aerogel acted like a spring under lower pressure and a membrane under higher pressure, showing great potential in human motion monitoring. According to the wide detection range of the aerogel, an artificial hand was designed to recognize different spatial pressures such as grasping a pen, holding a bottle, and shaking hands. These signal outputs could be precisely reflected by voltage change and further converted to RGB values. Meanwhile, a shoe pad was prepared to monitor foot pressure and the resistance change could be converted to color scale signals. This work provides a new strategy for 1D/2D hybrid nanomaterials-based aerogel with wide pressure ranges in flexible electronics.
