Liquid metal (especially eutectic gallium indium, EGaIn) nanoparticle inks overcome the poor wettability of high surface tension EGaIn to elastomer substrates and show great potential in soft electronics. Normally, a sintering strategy is required to break the oxide shells of the EGaIn nanoparticles (EGaIn NPs) to achieve conductive paths. Herein, for the first time, thermal-sinterable EGaIn NP inks are prepared by introducing thermal expansion microspheres (TEMs) into EGaIn NP solution. Through the mechanical pressure induced by the expansion of the heated TEMs, the printed EGaIn NPs can be sintered into electrically conductive paths to achieve highly stretchable bioelectrode arrays, which exhibit giant electromechanical performance (up to 680% strain), good cyclic stability (over 2 × 10 4 cycles), and stable conductivity after high-speed rotation (6000 rpm). Simultaneously, the recording sites are hermetically sealed by ionic elastomer layers, ensuring the complete leakage-free property of EGaIn and reducing the electrochemical impedance of the electrodes (891.16 Ω at 1 kHz). The bioelectrode is successfully applied to monitor dynamic electromyographic signals. The sintering strategy overcomes the disadvantages of the traditional sintering strategies, such as leakage of EGaIn, reformation of large EGaIn droplets, and low throughput, which promotes the application of EGaIn in soft electronics.

Three-dimensional (3D) micro-structured gold electrodes offer remarkable advantages in electrochemical sensing, electrocatalysis and energy storage. However, conventional cleanroom fabrication methods, such as lithography and vapor deposition, rely on expensive equipment and often involve material waste. This work proposes an EHD jet printing process for fabricating a micro-structured electrode featuring a 3D gold micropillar array (GMA) using water-based gold nanoparticle ink. Through COMSOL simulations, the utilization and avoidance of the electrostatic autofocusing effect is proposed in terms of the single micropillar and micropillar array, thereby obtaining the optimal micropillar height and spacing for the GMA. To address the tilting and detachment issues, the GMA was printed on an electrochemically deposited gold particle-dendrite layer, significantly enhancing the adhesion between the micropillars and substrate. Along with the proposed stepwise sintering process, the fabricated 3D GMA electrode exhibited excellent structural integrity. Subsequently, the fabricated 3D GMA electrode was applied to non-enzymatic electrochemical glucose detection and the results show that, compared to a planar electrode, the hybrid working electrode of the sensor demonstrated a 534 % increase in electrochemical active surface area and a notably high ratio of 6.25 cm 2 /cm 2 was obtained. This work highlights the potential of EHD jet printing for fabricating robust 3D micro-structured gold electrodes, offering a reliable, cost-effective and promising solution for applications in biomedical detection and advanced healthcare technologies.

Decellularized extracellular matrix (dECM) retains the bioactive components to mimic tissue-specific microenvironment. Designing dECM-based inks for 3D printing to prepare scaffolds can enhance the regeneration of corresponding tissues. However, due to the strict requirements for inks, how to efficiently prepare dECM-based inks is a challenge. Inspired by granular lubrication, the present study proposes an effective and general method for preparing granular ink from dECM microparticles (MP) with high content. Through dopamine polymerization, dECM-MPs are coated with polydopamine (PDA). Meanwhile, gelatin methacryloyl (GelMA)-based microspheres (GelMA-MSs) are prepared with available double bonds. dECM-MPs (30–40 wt%) and GelMA-MSs assemble to form a granular ink, exhibiting well-performed extrudability, plasticity, and fidelity. Further inspired by joint lubrication, hyaluronic acid (HA) is introduced into PDA coating and GelMA-MSs to reduce the micro-interface friction, further promoting the printability and broadening the printable window of dECM-MPs content to 30–60 wt%. Osteochondral scaffold and skin wound dressing are fabricated through 3D printing from the corresponding dECM-MPs, enhancing the regeneration of the corresponding tissues in vivo. Especially, the realization of printability of highly rigid dECM-MPs confirms the universality, reliability and efficiency of the present strategy.
