In this study, a green and rapid method called deep eutectic solvent dispersed liquid–liquid microextraction with magnetic particles-assisted retrieval (DES-DLLME-MPAR) was proposed, which was applied for extracting antidepressants from biofluids as a proof-of-concept. Vortex-assisted DES extraction enabled rapid extraction and reusable magnetic particles was utilized to assist in the rapid retrieval of the DES. Ethanol, also low in toxicity, was used as the desorption solvent. Optimal conditions for the extraction were achieved as follows: 10 μL of DES composed of methyltrioctylammonium bromide and capryl alcohol in a molar ratio of 1:3 as the extraction solvent, a sampling solution pH of 10.0, a vortex time of 1 min for both extraction and desorption, 10 mg of magnetic particles for assisting DES retrieval, and a desorption solution of 100 μL ethanol. Under these conditions, the extraction recoveries were above 83.4 % and the whole extraction procedure could be completed in approximately 3 min. Linear calibration curves in the concentration range of 0.01–10.00 μg/mL were obtained for four antidepressants, with correlation coefficients exceeding 0.999. The limits of quantification ranged from 0.068 to 0.092 μg/mL, meeting the demand for therapeutic drug monitoring. Satisfied accuracies (relative recoveries: 93.8–111.6 %) and precisions (RSD ≤ 6.0 %) were achieved. The detection selectivity was enhanced by the efficient removal of the interferences. Three greenness evaluation metrics collectively demonstrate the excellent greenness of the developed method. The proposed DES-DLLME-MPAR method was rapid, green, simple, inexpensive and accurate, offering a promising alternative approach for the analysis of hydrophobic drugs in clinical biofluids.

Ovarian reserve (OR) and fertility are critical in women's healthcare. Clinical methods for encoding OR and fertility rely on the combination of tests, which cannot serve as a multi-functional platform with limited information from specific biofluids. Herein, metabolic fingerprinting of follicular fluid (MFFF) from follicles is performed, using particle-assisted laser desorption/ionization mass spectrometry (PALDI-MS) to encode OR and fertility. PALDI-MS allows efficient MFFF, showing fast speed (≈30 s), high sensitivity (≈60 fmol), and desirable reproducibility (coefficients of variation <15%). Further, machine learning of MFFF is applied to diagnose diminished OR (area under the curve of 0.929) and identify high-quality oocytes/embryos ( p < 0.05) by a single PALDI-MS test. Meanwhile, metabolic biomarkers from MFFF are identified, which also determine oocyte/embryo quality ( p < 0.05) from the sampling follicles toward fertility prediction in clinics. This approach offers a powerful platform in women's healthcare, not limited to OR and fertility.

Eugenol has many biological and pharmacological activities such as antioxidant, anticancer, anti-inflammatory, antibacterial and anesthetic. In view of its wide range of beneficial activities, it is crucial to establish a method for the separation and purification of active components from clove. In this study, an electroosmotic coupled with particle-assisted deep eutectic solvent flotation method was established for the enrichment of eugenol from clove. Ten deep eutectic solvent (DES) extraction systems based on menthol as the hydrogen bond acceptor (HBA) were screened, and butanol was determined as the hydrogen bond donor (HBD) to prepare the optimal DES as extractant for extracting eugenol. Under the optimum operating conditions including solid–liquid ratio of 1:30, flotation time of 50 min, nitrogen flow rate of 55 mL/min, salt content of 20 g, pH of the clove suspension of 5.2, applied voltage of 15 V, copper electrode at the bottom, the yield of eugenol was 45.89 ± 1.61 mg/g. Compared with other extraction methods, the extraction rate was greatly improved. The electroosmotic coupled with particle-assisted deep eutectic solvent flotation method provides a green and efficient enrichment strategy for natural product, which has broad application prospects.

Electrochemical conversion of CO2 to the syngas hybrid with the Fischer–Tropsch (FT) process is a promising way to produce synthetic fuels from renewable energy sources. The product distribution in liquid hydrocarbons produced by FT synthesis has strong dependence on the CO/H2 ratio of the syngas feedstock. Herein, we demonstrated the feasibility of tuning the CO/H2 ratio at a wide range by developing nanoparticle-assisted Ni–Co binary single-atom catalysts for electrocatalytic production of syngas. By controlling the elemental proportion of Ni–Co in the composite catalysts, electrochemical reduction of CO2 to syngas with a tunable CO/H2 ratio from 0.3 to 27.6 was achieved. For the binary catalysts with a Ni–Co ratio of 1:1, the CO/H2 ratio maintains at 1.3–1.5 in a broad potential range from −0.59 to −0.83 V versus reversible hydrogen electrode (RHE) and the total current density reaches ∼32.2 mA/cm2 at −1.0 V versus RHE. The promotion effect of nanoparticles on Ni–Co single-atom catalysts was validated by partial removal of nanoparticles and further density functional theory (DFT) calculations. As revealed by DFT calculations, nanoparticles incorporated in single-atom sites take essential roles in facilitating the adsorption of CO2 and the formation of *COOH. The origin of CO2RR and hydrogen evolution reaction reactivities can be identified as Ni–N4 and Co–N4 single-atom sites, respectively. The dual active sites allow the facile control of the CO/H2 ratio of electrochemical converted syngas, and it will be beneficial to downstream production of diverse chemicals.
