Herein, uniform magnetic covalent organic framework (MCOF) microflowers were synthesized by facile inlaying aldehyde-functionalized Fe 3 O 4 nanoparticles onto the COF under mechanical stirring at room temperature. The MCOF microflowers kept flower-shaped morphology with high crystallinity and magnetism. In addition, the good water dispersibility and reusability made the MCOF microflowers to be good magnetic solid phase extraction (MSPE) adsorbents for the high-efficiency enrichment of eugenol anesthetics from aquatic products. The MCOF microflowers showed fast adsorption rate (10 min) and high extraction efficiency (above 84.02%) for eugenol anesthetics under optimal conditions. The MCOF microflowers displayed maximum adsorption capacities of 6.67, 12.31, and 16.78 µg g −1 for eugenol, eugenol acetate, and methyl isoeugenol, respectively. The MCOF microflowers based MSPE coupled with high-performance liquid chromatography method was proposed for enrichment and analysis of eugenol anesthetics in tilapia, shrimp and crab samples. The method showed a wide linear of 5.0–500.0 µg kg −1 and low detection limits of 2.4–3.6 μg kg −1 for eugenol anesthetics. The recoveries of spiked eugenol anesthetics ranged from 80.0% to 118.8% with relative standard deviations no>9.2%. Results indicate the high potential of MCOF microflowers to be an adsorbent for efficient extraction and analysis of eugenol anesthetics from complex aquatic product samples.

There is an urgent need to develop efficient and reliable coating materials for solid phase microextraction (SPME), in order to quantify and monitor pollutants in environmental waters. Herein, a highly graphitized porous carbon/reduced graphene oxide (PC/rGO) was successfully synthesized by pyrolysis of metal organic framework / graphene oxide precursors, and used as a SPME coating for ultrahigh enrichment of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) from water. The as-prepared PC/rGO exhibited high degree of graphitization , abundant number of micro/mesopores along with exceptional thermal stability, making it an ideal SPME coating material. The PC/rGO fiber offered an ultrahigh enrichment factor for PAHs (up to 126057), which could be attributed to the multiple interactions between the PC/rGO and PAHs, including hydrophobic and π - π interactions, partitioning, and mesopore filling effect. In the analysis of PAHs, the PC/rGO fiber showed a wide linearity (0.007–100 ng mL −1 ), low limits of detection (0.0005–0.005 ng mL −1 ), and good repeatability (RSDs <10.1%, n = 5) under optimized conditions. The established method was applicable for ultrasensitive determination of PAHs in different environmental waters and showed satisfactory recoveries. This study provides a novel way for constructing thermally stable SPME coating having efficient extraction performance.

Ochratoxin A (OTA) is a mycotoxin and can threaten human health through the food chains. It is essential to develop an effective OTA analysis method to prevent the contaminated cereals from entering the food chain. Here, an analogue of OTA was selected as the template and 3-aminopropyltriethoxysilicane was used as the functional monomer, to prepare a magnetic molecularly imprinted nanoparticles, which were further mixed with polystyrene and SiO 2 nanoparticles to make magnetic molecularly imprinted inverse opal photonic crystal microspheres (MIP@MIPCMs) by a microfluidic self-assembly strategy. Infrared analysis, scanning electron microscope, transmission electron microscope, and metallographic microscopy techniques have been used to characterize MIP@MIPCMs and its control materials, demonstrating the expected MIP@MIPCMs were synthesized successfully. The imprinting factor of MIP@MIPCMs was tested to be 7.3, and its cross-reactivity factors range from 2.3 to 12.9, demonstrating it has good selectivity and specificity. Using MIP@MIPCMs as the sample pretreatment material to enrich OTA from cereals, the detection limit can reach to 0.48 ng/mL by integrating with HPLC analysis, and the spiked recoveries were 80–104 %, indicating the MIP@MIPCMs have a high-performance enrichment capability.

Microporous organic polymers (MOPs) are an emerging class of functional porous materials for diverse potential applications. Typically, tailored microporous structures of MOPs are generated by linkages of organic polymerizable monomer building blocks, providing high permanent porosity and excellent stability. Herein, we reported the first example of the application of organic building block based MOPs (OBB-MOPs) as efficient enrichment media for sample preparation. A novel multilayer interbridging strategy was proposed to fabricate OBB-MOP coatings, and hereby SNW-1 (a kind of OBB-MOPs) was coated on silica substrate with well-controlled thickness. Strong covalent bonds throughout the network and interlayer bridging improved the durability of the coating significantly. Outstanding chemical stability was observed in diverse solvents as well as solutions with a wide range of pH or high ionic strength and even under extremely harsh conditions like boiling water. The SNW-1 coating possessed a microporous network structure constructed of conjugated and nitrogen-rich building blocks. Thus, the coating exhibited a superior enrichment performance of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons and volatile fatty acids (VFAs) over commercial coatings based on interactions including π–π affinity and acid–base interaction. For further application, this coating was combined with gas chromatography/mass spectrometry for the noninvasive analysis of VFAs from tea leaf and tobacco shred samples. The low detection limits of 0.014–0.026 μg/L were achieved with the relative standard deviations (RSDs) between 4.3 and 9.0%. Consequently, trace original VFAs from the samples were detected. Good recoveries were obtained in the range of 90–129% and 77–118% with the corresponding RSDs (n = 3) of 2.6–9.3% and 1.9–10%, respectively.
