Humidity sensors are indispensable for various electronic systems and instrumentations. To develop a new humidity sensing mechanism is the key for the next generation of sensor technology. In this work, a novel flexible paper-based current humidity sensor is proposed. The developed alternating current electroluminescent devices (ACEL) consist of the electroless plating Ni on filter paper and silver nanowires (AgNWs) as the bottom and upper electrodes, and ZnS:Cu as the phosphor layer, respectively. The proposed humidity sensor is based on ACEL with the paper substrate and the ZnS:Cu phosphor layer as the humidity sensing element. The moisture effect on the optical properties of ACELs has been studied firstly. Then, the processing parameters of the paper-based ACELs such as electroless plated bottom electrode and spin-coated phosphor layer as a function of the humidity-sensitive characteristics are investigated. The sensing mechanism of the proposed sensor has been elucidated based on theQ~Vanalysis. The sensor exhibits an excellent linearity (R2=0.99965) within the humidity range from 20% to 90% relative humidity (RH) and shows excellent flexibility. We also demonstrate its potential application in postharvest preservation where the EL light is used for preservation and the humidity can be monitored simultaneously through the current.Keywords:paper-based ACEL;capacitive humidity sensor;ZnS:Cu;flexible;high–linearity

In this study, we investigated the microstructural and luminescence characteristics of high-linearity ZnS:Cu 2+ ,Cl − phosphor. Through conducting the method of high-temperature solid state reaction, we prepared the ZnS phosphors characterizing with two different doping concentrations of Cu 2+ ions. The prepared two kinds of ZnS phosphors exhibit two coexisting forms of cubic phase and hexagonal phase, to which the concentration of Cu 2+ imposes no influence on the microstructure of the phosphor. The average particle size is 2.68 ± 0.5 μm and the emission wavelength locating at approximate 460 nm attribute to the zinc vacancy. As the concentration of the Cu 2+ ions increases, the energy bandgap, the fluorescence lifetime and the luminescence intensity decrease, causing noticeable concentration quenching. In addition, the linear correlation between the emission intensity and the current of the prepared phosphors is stronger than that of commercial ones. The prepared ZnS:Cu 2+ ,Cl − phosphor with high linearity and short fluorescence lifetime has great potential to be applied in practical applications in the field of high-energy physics and astrophysical exploration.

Flexible pressure sensors that have high sensitivity, high linearity, and a wide pressure-response range are highly desired in applications of robotic sensation and human health monitoring. The challenge comes from the incompressibility of soft materials and the stiffening of microstructures in the device interfaces that lead to gradually saturated response. Therefore, the signal is nonlinear and pressure-response range is limited. Here, we show an iontronic flexible pressure sensor that can achieve high sensitivity (49.1 kPa–1), linear response (R2 > 0.995) over a broad pressure range (up to 485 kPa) enabled by graded interlocks of an array of hemispheres with fine pillars in the ionic layer. The high linearity comes from the fact that the pillar deformation can compensate for the effect of structural stiffening. The response-relaxation time of the sensor is <5 ms, allowing the device to detect vibration signals with frequencies up to 200 Hz. Our sensor has been used to recognize objects with different weights based on machine learning during the gripper grasping tasks. This work provides a strategy to make flexible pressure sensors that have combined performances of high sensitivity, high linearity, and wide pressure-response range.

Flexible sensors have been widely studied in smart wear, human health monitoring, biomedical and other applications because of its high bio-compatibility. However, it is still a challenge to achieve high sensitivity, wide sensing range, and high stability at the same time, which limits the application of flexible sensors in many directions. In order to solve the above problems, we construct a micro-crack composite wrinkle structure enhanced fiber strain sensor using SEBS rubber elastomer as the substrate and carbon nanotube film functional materials . The micro-cracks composite wrinkle structure for carbon nanotubes (SEBS@MCW-CNT) ensures that the sensor has an ultra-wide sensing range of 0–600 %, and the impact factor reaches 1.0676 under the tension state. The wrinkle structure ensures the sensor can maintains good sensing performance after >10,000 tests, and has high linearity. The response time is 153 ms, the recovery time is 169 ms, and the hysteresis of the sensor can be ignored. At the same time, it also has the sensing performance of bending strain, which broadens the application of the sensor. Our strain sensor has promising applications in wearable electronic devices for detecting human motion.

Real-time monitoring of bearing operational status is critical for mechanical equipment safety. However, integrated temperature-strain sensors often encounter crosstalk between signals, which affects the accuracy and stability of measurements. Achieving precise in-situ monitoring of bearing temperature and strain conditions remains a significant technical challenge. Here, highly linear and stable AgNPs thin-film temperature sensors (AgNPs TFTSs) and AgNPs microcrack thin-film strain gauges (AgNPs MTFSGs) are proposed using laser-assisted printing technology, which are capable of accurately acquiring condition parameters of bearing. The printed AgNPs TFTS exhibited a low hysteresis error of 2.6 % and a high linearity of 0.999. The microcracks in AgNPs MTFSG were induced by ultraviolet (UV) laser, yielding a significant enhancement of the gauge factor (GF) from 1.03 (baseline) to 3.19. This twofold sensitivity improvement was achieved while maintaining excellent linearity (R²=0.997). In particular, these thin-film sensors exhibited good stability even when applied to bearings. Typically, AgNPs TFTS and AgNPs MTFSG maintained a low resistance drift rate of 0.012 %/h and a repeatability error of 2.1 % respectively, demonstrating broad adaptability. In addition, both AgNPs TFTS and AgNPs MTFSG exhibited excellent dynamic and static response characteristics. This provides a method for the direct in-situ fabrication of thin-film sensors with high linearity and high stability on mechanical components, such as gears, bolts, and so on.
