In this study, a fast and convenient method to immobilize Ru(bpy) 3 2+ on glassy carbon electrode (GCE) surface is developed. A Ru(bpy) 3 2+ /poly (sulfosalicylic acid) (PSA) modified glassy carbon electrode was prepared by electrochemical polymerization and used as the working electrode in the electrochemiluminescence (ECL) detection of Allura Red (AR). Under the optimal conditions, the linear range of the method was 1.0 × 10 -7 ~ 1.0 × 10 -4 mol/L and the detection limit was 6.0 × 10 -8 mol/L. The modified electrode shows good sensitivity and stability, which can be used in the determination of Allura Red in food samples.

A synergistic amplified electrochemiluminescent (ECL) immunoassay was constructed by utilizing an efficiently self-enhanced signal tag and sensing substrate with satisfactory photothermal property for thyroglobulin ultrasensitive detection. Concretely, tetraethylene pentamine (TEPA) was first attempted for the coreactant of Ru bpy 3 2 + , and mesoporous silica nanostars with large surface area and porous structure was designed as a support material to integrate Ru bpy 3 2 + and TEPA, forming a self-enhanced signal tag to improve ECL efficiency. Additionally, magnetic beads with excellent photothermal effect was used as ideal sensing substrate to obtain the further amplified ECL signal because of the accelerated electron diffusion and reaction process induced by increased electrode temperature under the near-infrared laser irradiation. With the self-enhanced and photothermal synergistic amplified strategy, the proposed ECL sensor showed a wide linear range from 10 −5 to 10 ng/mL with a low detection limit of 3.3 × 10 −6 ng/mL. This work will provide a promising avenue to simplify the synthesis of self-enhanced ECL emitter complexes, and pave the avenue for achieving synergistic enhancement of ECL signals by incorporating probe substrates.

In this work, an electrochemiluminescence (ECL) immunosensor for ultrasensitive detection of α-fetoprotein (AFP) was fabricated using Ru(bpy) 3 2+ -encapsulated liposome as the label and electrodeposited gold nanoparticles (GNPs) as the immobilizing support. Great signal amplification was achieved since liposome could encapsulate large amount of reporter molecules and GNPs could provide large active surface. Under optimized conditions, with sandwich type format, a linear range of AFP from 0.005 to 0.2 pg/mL and an extremely low detection limit of 0.001 pg/mL was obtained, much lower than that in previous reports. The proposed ECL immnuosensor showed high sensitivity, specificity, and good stability, which may open a new door to ultrasensitive detection of proteins in clinical analysis.
Vibrio parahaemolyticus ( VP ) is one of the most common pathogens in aquatic products, and its study using electrochemiluminescence is still relatively rare. In this study, an electrochemiluminescent (ECL) biosensor was developed to detect VP in aquatic products using AuNPs modified PEI/MWCNTs (AuNPs@PEI/MWCNTs) as a substrate material and ordered mesoporous carbon (OMC) adsorbed Ru(bpy) 3 2+ (OMC@Ru(bpy) 3 2+ ) as a luminescent material. To increase the conductivity of the biosensor and offer a favorable loading environment for the immobilization of the luminescent probe, AuNPs@PEI/MWCNTs are employed as the substrate. Meanwhile, the OMC@Ru(bpy) 3 2+ functionalized DNA probe acts as a luminescent and capture probe to generate ECL signals and specifically recognize different concentrations of VP . The biosensor has good selectivity and stability and has been successfully applied to the detection of VP in scallops. This method not only expands the potential uses of bioprobe-based ECL biosensors, but also offers a new and effective approach used to detect food-borne pathogens in aquatic products.
