Bidirectional Inhibiting Interfacial Ion Migration in the Inorganic Hole Transport Layer for Perovskite Light-Emitting Diodes

Lunyao Pan,Xiankan Zeng,Yuanxiao Qu,Maolin Mu,Shiyu Yang,Yongjian Chen,Chenglong Li,Linzhu Dai,Li Tao,Hongqiang Xin,Wen Li,Weiqing Yang

Cu 2 ZnSnS 4 (CZTS) is strong candidate for hole transport in perovskite light emitting diodes (PeLEDs) due to their cost-effectiveness, deep highest occupied molecular orbital (HOMO), and high hole mobility. However, its inherent polymetallic ions usually deteriorate the quality of the perovskite emission layer (EML) affecting device performance. In this study, a bidirectional anchoring strategy is proposed by adding 15-crown-5 ether (15C5) into CZTS hole transport layer (HTL) to suppress the reaction between HTL and EML. The 15C5 molecule interacts with Cu + , Zn 2+ and Sn 2+ cations forming host–guest complexes to impede their migration, which is elucidated by density functional theory calculations. Additionally, 15C5 can neutralize lead (Pb) defects by the abundant oxygen (O) and high electronegative cavities to reduce the nonradiative recombination of FAPbBr 3 film. This bidirectional anchoring strategy effectively improves hole charge transport efficiency and suppresses nonradiative recombination at the HTL/EML interface. As a result, the optimized PeLEDs present a 3.5 times peak external quantum efficiency (EQE) from 3.12% to 11.08% and the maximum luminance ( L max ) increased from 24495 to 50584 cd m −2 . These findings offer innovative insights into addressing the metal ion migration issue commonly observed in inorganic HTLs.

Nanofiltration membrane with crown ether as exclusive Li+ transport channels achieving efficient extraction of lithium from salt lake brine

Hongwei Li,Ying Wang,Tingyu Li,Xiang-Kui Ren,Jixiao Wang,Zhi Wang,Song Zhao

Lithium extraction from salt lake brines with high Mg 2+ /Li + ratios represents an effective alternative for tackling the scarcity of lithium resources. In this work, nanofiltration (NF) membrane with exclusive Li + transport channels was designed and prepared through facile interfacial polymerization, in which polyethyleneimine (PEI) bonded with 15-crown-5 ether (15C5) through hydrogen interaction was selected as the aqueous monomer ( [email protected] ) and reacted with trimesoyl chloride (TMC). The channels generated by 15C5 molecules could facilitate Li + transport owing to their affinity to Li + . Molecular dynamics simulation was conducted to further confirm the Li + transport through [email protected] membrane with exclusive Li + transport channels provided by 15C5. The [email protected] membrane displayed a permeability of 8.0 L·m −2 ·h −1 ·bar −1 and stable separation factor ( S Li,Mg ) of 14, which could reduce Mg 2+ /Li + mass ratio of a simulated brine from 20 to 1.7. Furthermore, a three-stage NF process was designed and performed using a [email protected] membrane to separate a simulated salt lake brine, containing multiple ions and Mg 2+ /Li + mass ratio of 50. After the treatment, the ultimate permeate solution of the third stage contained 24 ppm of Li + and 2.7 ppm of Mg 2+ with Mg 2+ /Li + mass ratio of 0.1. Therefore, this process could be applied to obtain Li 2 CO 3 products with high purity. Our investigation highlights the highly efficient Mg 2+ /Li + separation through NF membranes with exclusive Li + transport channels, potentially applicable to lithium extraction from salt lake brines with high Mg 2+ /Li + mass ratios.

A versatile nano-transformer for efficient localization-specific imaging and synergistic therapy of bladder cancer

Fanqi Liu,Chang Guo,Xindi Li,Yumin Li,Suying Xu,Tony D. James,Leyu Wang

A stepwise morphologic transformation is highly desirable but rarely reported for promoting drug penetration at tumor sites via reducing transport barriers. Herein, an adhesive multifunctional nano-transformer (CTMF NPs) with cascading structural transformation was constructed, which afforded tumor microenvironment (TME)-activatable zero-background 19 F-magnetic resonance imaging and ratiometric photoacoustic imaging-guided synergistic tumor therapy. CTMF NPs were synthesized via a one-pot encapsulation and dynamic coordination strategy, where copper sulfide nanoparticles (CuS NPs, photothermal agent) were co-encapsulated with perfluoro-15-crown-5-ether (PFCE, 19 F MRI agent) by the dopamine grafted amphiphilic polymer, followed by coating with metal (Mn 2+ )-polyphenol shell ( 19 F signal quencher and therapeutic agent). Benefiting from polyphenol enhanced cell adherence as well as in situ generated reactive quinone , the CTMF NPs attached to tumor sites and exhibited efficient internalization under TME promoted decomposition and oxidation . Moreover, these nano-platforms were further decomposed under laser irradiation , which amplified cellular oxidative stress , leading to mitochondrial structural damage and dysfunction, as well as facilitating cuproptosis by interfering with the lipoylated tricarboxylic acid cycle . Cell apoptosis subsequently resulted in significant immunogenic cell death and afforded a versatile nano-transformer for precise imaging-guided bladder cancer therapy.

Enhanced polyamide nanofiltration membranes via a dual-reinforcement strategy for efficient Li+/Mg2+ separation

Ting Qi,Xiaona Wei,Xianfu Chen,Tiandan Lu,Dongliang Jin,Jing Zhong

Nanofiltration (NF) membranes are emerging as promising candidates for lithium extraction. However, their performance is challenged by the comparable physicochemical characteristics of Li + and Mg 2+ . In this work, a dual-reinforcement strategy is proposed to simultaneously enhance both selectivity and permeability by combining the densification of the polyamide (PA) network and the construction of Li + -selective transport channels. During the interfacial polymerization of piperazine (PIP) and trimesoyl chloride (TMC), the cross-linking density of the PA layer is increased by adding sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS), while Li + -selective transport nanochannels are constructed by incorporating 15-crown-5 ether (CE). This synergistic modification enhances Mg 2+ rejection via intensified size exclusion and facilitates Li +  permeation through ion-specific recognition. The resulting PIP/SDS/CE-PA membrane exhibits a high cross-linking degree of 91.26 %, a reduced pore size of 0.70 nm, and a narrow pore size distribution (σ = 1.22). Molecular dynamics simulations confirm the preferential complexation of CE with Li + , and that Li + exhibits faster and more favourable translocation in the PIP/SDS/CE-PA membranes, thereby facilitating its selective transport. Experimentally, the membrane achieves a high MgCl 2 rejection of 97.1 % and a low LiCl rejection of 56.7 %, yielding an exceptional Li + /Mg 2+ selectivity of 30 in a MgCl 2 /LiCl binary system, while maintaining a water permeance of 5 L m −2  h −1 bar −1 . These findings demonstrate the strong potential of the PIP/SDS/CE-PA membrane for the direct treatment of high Mg 2+ /Li + ratio salt-lake brines and offer a versatile strategy for designing next-generation NF membranes for selective ion separations.
