Azurite is an important oxidized copper mineral, and the traditional sulfidation-xanthate flotation process still fails to achieve ideal results. Organic chelating reagents containing donor atoms such as N, S, and O have demonstrated excellent performance in mineral flotation and copper corrosion inhibitor research. However, such reagents have rarely been applied in azurite flotation studies. This study introduces a novel N/S – containing activator, 2-mercaptopyridine (2-MP), for azurite activation, and investigates its modification mechanism and flotation effects on azurite. Micro-flotation tests show that 2-MP significantly improves azurite's flotation performance. The flotation recovery of azurite in the 2-MP-potassium butyl xanthate system increased substantially from 37.54% to 97.23%. Theoretical studies reveal that 2-MP activates the azurite surface to form a dense product layer containing S/N elements. This S/N – enriched hydrophobic layer facilitates effective xanthate adsorption, thereby enhancing flotation recovery. The activation mechanism is elucidated as follows: The N/S atoms in 2-MP interact with copper sites on the azurite surface, forming 2-MP-Cu complexes containing S-Cu and N-Cu bonds that adsorb onto the mineral surface, exposing more copper sites. Simultaneously, Cu(II) is reduced to highly active Cu(I), providing a fresh active surface that greatly promotes xanthate adsorption while improving the mineral's hydrophobicity and floatability. This work reveals the surface modification mechanism of the bidentate organic chelating reagent 2-MP on azurite, offering a new approach for the efficient utilization of oxidized copper mineral resources.

The core–shell structured Ag@SiO 2 nanomaterial integrated with surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) spectroscopy promises a critical application in anti-counterfeiting. Security labels have been fabricated based on Ag@SiO 2 embedded with Raman reporters. The Ag@SiO 2 nanomaterial shows good stability and excellent anti-interference property for anti-counterfeiting. Multiple kinds of Raman probe molecules have been anchored in the Ag@SiO 2 labels to provide specific and abundant encoding information. The flexible encoding security information could be controlled conveniently by adjusting probe molecules, which not only enrich the SERS information but also improve the level of anti-counterfeiting. Furthermore, the Ag@SiO 2 shown excellent stability in organic solvent, and successfully used in ink for the anti-counterfeiting application.

EDA/2-MP turns inert Cu–O–Si domains into KBX-responsive Cu-organic sites. • EDA unlocks Cu(II) sites for 2-MP anchoring via Cu–N/Cu–S bonding. • A continuous ~30 nm N/S/Cu-rich activation film is visualized on chrysocolla. • Interface reconstruction enables 95% chrysocolla recovery and selective separation. Chrysocolla is one of the most difficult oxide copper minerals to recover by flotation because of its strong hydrophilicity, low reactivity, and poor adaptability to conventional activation methods. In this study, an EDA/2-MP synergistic activation system was developed using KBX as the collector. At pH 10, single-mineral flotation tests were conducted with 38–74 μm chrysocolla at a pulp solid concentration of 10 g/L and a flotation time of 8 min, with three independent tests performed for each condition; an artificial chrysocolla–dolomite mixture at a mass ratio of 1:1 was also used to evaluate separation performance. At EDA, 2-MP, and KBX concentrations of 40, 280, and 60 mg/L, respectively, chrysocolla recovery reached 95.34%. In the mixed-mineral system, concentrate Cu recovery remained above 95%, with a Cu grade of approximately 34%. FIB-TEM revealed a continuous low-crystallinity film approximately 31.2–33.9 nm thick after EDA/2-MP treatment. Raman, XPS, and ToF-SIMS showed that EDA/2-MP altered the chemical environments of surface Cu, N, and S species and promoted the enrichment of KBX-related components at the activated interface. Accordingly, EDA/2-MP pretreatment followed by KBX addition increased the chrysocolla contact angle from 24.52° to 82.65°, confirming surface hydrophobization. This study provides a new selective interfacial activation strategy for efficient flotation recovery of refractory silicate-type oxide copper minerals. Large-sized lead sulfide (PbS) colloidal quantum dots (CQDs) face significant stability challenges in near-infrared applications due to increased surface active sites. While traditional halogen ligands achieve preliminary passivation, they are prone to dissociation under high-temperature operating conditions, leading to rapid device performance degradation. This study proposes an aromatic bidentate ligand passivation strategy based on 2-picolinic acid (2-PCA). The device demonstrates an external quantum efficiency (EQE) of 35% at 1650 nm wavelength, with responsivity and normalized detectivity reaching 0.46 A/W and 3.58 × 1011 jones, respectively representing a 2.33-fold improvement over conventional halogen-passivated devices. Under thermal stress at 180 °C for 2 h, devices with 2-PCA ligands retain approximately 90% of their initial normalized EQE, marking a 15-fold improvement in stability compared to devices using halogen ligands (PbX2, X = Br–, I–), which undergo nearly complete failure. This aromatic bidentate ligand passivation strategy provides a new pathway for developing high-performance infrared photodetectors with enhanced thermal stability.

Ru clusters have great potential as excellent bifunctional catalysts for the hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) and hydrazine oxidation reaction (HzOR), but suffer from the difficulty of stabilization on the substrate and tuning the electronic environment. Herein, we present Ru clusters supported on N, S co-doped hollow carbon spheres (Ru/NSCS) by elaborately designed Ru–S bonds to anchor Ru clusters and optimize the surrounding coordination environment. The Ru/NSCS exhibits superior electrocatalytic performance for the HER and HzOR, where an ultrasmall overpotential of 40 mV and a working potential of −81 mV at 10 mA cm−2 can be achieved, respectively. The two-electrode system requires an applied voltage of only 26 mV to achieve 10 mA cm−2 and remains stable for 20 hours. Theoretical calculations reveal that the Ru–S bonds induce partial charge transfer from Ru clusters to the N, S co-doped carbon base, thus optimizing the adsorption energy of *H and dehydrogenation intermediates of N2H4.

Developing an advanced photocatalytic water-splitting system for hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) remains a challenge. Herein, a series of easily available pyridine-functionalized nickel-based photocatalysts with elaborate electronic structures were predicted by density functional theory (DFT). The results indicated that the migration of photoinduced electrons could be significantly improved after functionalization of the photocatalysts, leading to a high performance for HER. Under the optimized conditions, as high as 1613.51 μmol of H2 can be produced over 25 mg of Ni(dpi)(pys)2 (dpi = 2,2′-dipyridyl) (pys = 2-mercaptopyridine) (PNSP 1) after irradiation for 3 h, corresponding to a turnover number (TON) of 5470. The reaction mechanism was further explored by experimental and DFT calculation results. The outstanding HER performance is primarily associated with a high photoelectron transfer rate, a weak binding energy between the photocatalyst and hydrogen molecules, and enhanced active sites for HER, which might benefit the reduction of the energy barrier of HER intermediates, ultimately boosting the performance for HER. This report on the use of DFT to predict molecular complexes with high-efficiency catalytic properties affords significant insights for the design of new and inexpensive photocatalysts.

Multi-functional plasmonic fabric comprised of silver nanoparticles (Ag NPs) and cotton gauze was fabricated through an in-situ growth method. Ag NPs with high density were immobilized on the surface of cotton fibers. The plasmonic cotton gauze exhibits excellent flexible features, temporal stability and SERS enhancement factors close to 10 5 × . The plasmonic cotton gauze was labelled with multiplexed Raman probes and used for anti-counterfeiting applications. The encoding information could be readily changed by adjusting the ratio between components in the mixture of Raman probe molecules. This novel strategy could create rich Raman information based on the combination of a few Raman probes, which significantly increases the security levels in anti-counterfeiting. The plasmonic cotton gauze was also employed as a flexible SERS substrate for sensing pesticide from irregular surfaces of orange by a simple swiping process.

Surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) can provide fingerprint information of analyte molecules with unparalleled sensitivity. However, quantitative analysis using SERS has remained one of the major challenges owing to the difficulty of obtaining reproducible SERS substrates with high-density hotspots. Here, we report the rational design and fabrication of a binary thiol-capped gold nanoparticle (AuNP) monolayer film (MLF) as a substrate for highly sensitive and quantitative SERS analysis. The two thiol ligands chemically bonded to the AuNPs play different roles: dodecanethiol with a long alkyl chain controls the interparticle gaps and electromagnetic coupling among AuNPs and 4-mercaptopyridine works as a Raman internal standard (IS). The binary thiol-capped AuNPs can self-assemble into an ordered MLF with high-density hotspots and uniformly distributed IS. The as-prepared MLF has been demonstrated as a reliable SERS substrate for quantitative detection of fungicide malachite green in aqueous solution, with a high enhancement factor (up to 3.3 × 107) and a low detection limit (100 pM). Moreover, the MLF SERS substrate is flexible and transparent, which has enabled in situ detection of trace fungicide residues in a shrimp tissue.
