Controlling the crystallographic orientations of 2D perovskite is regarded as an effective way to improve the efficiency of PSCs based on 2D perovskite. In this paper, five different assistant solvents were selected to unveil the effect of solvents on crystallization and morphology of 2D perovskite in a solvent-assisted method. Results demonstrated that the effect of Lewis basicity on the crystallization process was the most important factor for preparing 2D perovskite. The stability of the intermediate, reacted between the solvent and the Pb2+, determined the quality of 2D film. The stronger the Lewis basicity was, the more obvious the accurate control effect on the top-down crystallization process of 2D perovskite would be. This could enhance the crystallographic orientation of 2D perovskite. The effect of Lewis basicity played a more important role than other properties of the solvent, such as boiling point and polarity.Keywords:2D perovskite;perovskite solar cells;crystallization orientation;solvent

Regardless of the impressive progress that perovskite solar cells (PSCs) have achieved, especially considering their power conversion efficiency (PCE) over 25%, traditional PSCs still contend with an inherent instability with exposure to humidity, which remains as a critical issue for the realization of commercial production. Herein, we proposed an effective pathway to relieve the instability of PSCs without sacrificing efficiency by introducing a 2D phase at the surface of the 3D perovskite film, based on a novel organic cyclohexylmethylammonium iodide (CMAI). The self-assembled thin 2D capping layer atop the 3D perovskite layer can not only reduce the ionic defects, but also serve as a protective barrier against moisture. Consequently, the champion device incorporating 2D perovskite capping layers delivered an open-circuit voltage (Voc) of 1.19 V, which contributes to an impressive PCE of 22.06% on account of the improved charge extraction and decreased non-radiative recombination. More importantly, an excellent long-term stability along with mitigated hysteresis was observed for the modified devices as a result of the suppressed ion migration and high humidity resistance of the 2D perovskite film. Our finding provides a comprehensive approach for simultaneously enhancing the efficiency and stability of PSCs through dimension engineering utilizing CMA-based 2D perovskite materials.

The replacement of small cations with bulkier organic cations containing long alkyl chains or benzene rings to form a thin two-dimensional (2D) perovskite passivation layer on three-dimensional (3D) perovskite (2D/3D) has become a promising strategy for improving both the efficiency and stability of perovskite solar cells (PSCs). The 2D layer defines the interfacial chemistry and physics at the 2D/3D bilayer and endows the 2D/3D structure with better chemical and thermal stability. Herein, 2D/3D (CF 3 -PEA) 2 FA 0.85 MA 0.15 Pb 2 I 7 /FA 0.85 MA 0.15 PbI 3 planar heterojunction perovskite was produced using a facile interfacial ion exchange process. The 2D (CF 3 -PEA) 2 FA 0.85 MA 0.15 Pb 2 I 7 capping layer can not only passivate the FA 0.85 MA 0.15 PbI 3 film but also act as super-hydrophobic layer to inhibit water diffusion and significantly enhance the stability. The 2D capping layer can also establish a unique graded band structure at the perovskite/Spiro-OMeTAD interface and lead to p-type doping for Spiro-OMeTAD layer which is beneficial for efficient charge transport. Optimized PSCs based on this 2D/3D heterojunction yield a champion power conversion efficiency (PCE) of 23.1% and improved stability. The device maintains 84% output for 2400 h aging under ambient environmental conditions without encapsulation, and maintains 81% for 200 h under illumination with encapsulation. This work will inspire the design of more fluorinated 2D perovskite interfaces for advanced photovoltaics and beyond.

The 3D/2D perovskite film vertical heterojunction (3D/2D PFVH) has emerged as a promising candidate for high-performance photodetectors, as it overcomes the limitations of mono-perovskite while preserving their photoelectric properties and enhancing active layer stability, surface defect passivation, and carrier dynamics. However, controllable and cost-effective fabrication of efficient 3D/2D PFVH remains challenging. Herein, an improved hot-pressing reaction transfer-assisted method is proposed to successfully prepare high-quality 3D/2D PFVH after optimizing pressure and concentration. A carrier dynamics model is also proposed to elucidate the changes in defect states, carrier dynamics, and photophysical properties during the formation of 3D/2D PFVH. Furthermore, the efficient 3D/2D PFVH under optimal conditions exhibited remarkable enhancements in photoluminescence, carrier lifetime, humidity stability, and defect mitigation. Ultimately, the champion 3D/2D PFVH horizontal photodetector achieved a record-performance in photo-responsivity (R up to 4.59 A/W) and external quantum efficiency (EQE up to 1.07 × 10 3 %), signifying their superior light detection capabilities. This study offers valuable insights for designing high-quality 3D/2D PFVH for advanced high-performance planar optoelectronic devices for multiple scenes.

In this work, we report a novel two-dimensional (2D) (SrBr)2PbI4 perovskite layered architecture, which were formed by the reaction of strontium bromide (SrBr2), strontium iodide (SrI2) and lead iodide (PbI2). Formation of 2D (SrBr)2PbI4 was verified by small angle XRD peak at 6.4°, which corresponds to the layer distance of 13.78 Å. The best one of solar cells fabricated with Quasi-3D perovskite, (SrBr)2FA59Pb60I181 (n = 60), showed a power conversion efficiency (PCE) of 18.46% and retained 95% of the initial PCE at 1000 h in the dry air. Further, the 2D (SrBr)2PbI4 as the surface passivation layer on the 3D FAPbI3 perovskite greatly reduced the defects at the perovskite/Spiro-OMeTAD interface, and the corresponding solar cells with FAPbI3/(SrBr)2PbI4 3D/2D structure achieved a PCE of 22.14% and over 90% retention of the original PCE at 1000 h. In short, this work provides an example of inorganic complex cations that can form 2D perovskites and achieve perovskite solar cells with high PCE and stabilization at the same time.

Two-dimensional (2D) and quasi-2D modifications of three-dimensional (3D) perovskite active layers have contributed to advances in the performance of perovskite solar cells (PSCs). However, the ionic diffusion between the surface 2D and bulk 3D perovskites leads to the degradation of the 3D/2D perovskite heterostructures and limits the long-term stability of PSCs. Here we incorporate a cross-linked polymer (CLP) on the top of a 3D perovskite layer and then deposit a 2D perovskite layer via a vapour-assisted two-step process to form a 3D/CLP/2D perovskite heterostructure. Photoluminescence spectra and thickness-profiled elemental analysis indicate that the CLP stabilizes the heterostructure by inhibiting the diffusion of cations (formamidinium, FA + and 4-fluorophenylethylammonium, 4F-PEA + ) between the 2D and 3D perovskites. For devices based on carbon electrodes, we report small-area devices with an efficiency of 21.2% and mini-modules with an efficiency of 19.6%. Devices retain 90% of initial performance after 4,390 hours operation under maximum power point tracking and one-sun illumination at elevated temperatures.
