A new cationic complex, [Co(Bpbp) 2 ](ClO 4 ) 2 · DMF · H 2 O, was synthesized by treatment Co(ClO 4 ) 2 · 6H 2 O with 2,6- bis (1-phenylbenzimidazol-2-yl)pyridine (Bpbp) in DMF solvent at room temperature. Its structure was characterized by element analysis, IR, and X-ray single crystal structure analyses (CIF file CCDC no. 970498). For complex, crystal system, triclinic, space group, \(P\bar \imath\) , a = 11.585(13), b = 13.939(16), c = 19.236(2) \(\mathop {\AA}\limits^\prime\) , α = 97.938(2)°, β = 102.814(2)°, γ = 90.556(2)°, V = 2861.1(6) Ǻ 3 , Z = 2. The Co 2+ ion octahedral geometry is coordinated by six nitrogen atoms from two ligand (Bpbp). The antiproliferative activities of the complex were screened by MTT assay against HepG2, Huh7, Eca109 and Eca9706 cancer cell. The complex exhibits inhibition on Eca9706 and Eca109 cancer cell but no HepG2 and Huh7 cancer cell.

A new complex Cu(bpbp)Cl 2 ·DMF·H 2 O is synthesized by treatment of CuCl 2 with 2,6-bis(1-phenylbenzimidazol-2-yl)pyidine in DMF. Its structure is characterized by elemental, IR, UV, and single crystal X-ray structure analyses. For the complex: crystal system, triclinic, space group \(P\bar 1\) , a = 1.0537(1) nm, b = 1.1735(1) nm, c = 1.3749(2) nm, α = 112.275(2)°, β = 91.531(2)°, γ = 97.700(2)°, V = 1.553(4) nm 3 , Z = 2. In a distorted trigonal bipyramidal geometry the Cu(II) ion is coordinated by three nitrogen atoms from 2,6-bis(1-phenylbenzimidazol-2-yl)pyridine and two chloride ions. The antiproliferative activities of the complex are screened by MTT assay against HepG2, Huh7, Eca109, and Eca9706 cancer cells. The complex exhibits specific inhibition on Eca9706 cancer cells with the IC 50 value of 28 μM after 48 h treatment. CCDC: 968927.
Macromonomers bearing tridentate 2,6-bis(1,2,3-trizol-4-yl)pyridine (BTP) ligand unit synthesized via CuAAC “click” chemistry in the middle of the chain and two ureidopyrimidinone (UPy) motifs on the ends linked to the central BTP unit via PEGs of various lengths were synthesized and used for the study of gelation both with and without the presence of Eu(III) ions. Various interesting gelation behaviors were found. Gels exhibited various multi-responsive properties, including photoluminescence, mechanoresponsive properties, self-healing abilities, thermorepsonsive properties and chemoresponsive properties. The different gelation abilities and multi-responsive properties for different systems were shown to be resulted from difference in PEG linker lengths and the introduction of orthogonal metal–ligand coordination and hydrogen bonding interactions. The selective responsiveness to different chemicals would allow the development of modular sensory systems that utilize a combination of orthogonal supramolecular interactions.
