In the present study, a simple and efficient approach based on the online extraction-high performance liquid chromatography coupled with ABTS antioxidant assay (OLE-HPLC-ABTS) was established to quickly and directly analyze the antioxidants in S. baumii. Through this system, the HPLC mobile phase via a guard column packed with a S. baumii sample was used for online extraction (OLE). The separation was performed on an Agilent Poroshell EC-C18 column with a gradient elution using 0.1% formic acid (A) and 0.1% formic acid–acetonitrile (B) as mobile phase systems and detected at a wavelength of 254 nm. Then, the separated compounds were reacted with the antioxidant solution (ABTS), and the response was recorded at a wavelength of 400 nm. The developed analytical method was successfully applied to S. baumii samples, and eight antioxidants were identified. The established system integrated the online extraction, separation and online antioxidant detection, which is rapid, efficient, and suitable for the rapid screening of antioxidant compounds from solid sample mixtures.

Flos Lonicerae (FL) was widely planted in China as a kind of pharmaceutical resource. In our research, the variations in content and antioxidant activity of essential oil of FL from five different sites of China were investigated. The results revealed that the essential oil content of samples varied over the range of 0.288 ± 0.015% to 0.387 ± 0.016%. The essential oil antioxidant activity of samples were also determined by scavenging activity against 2,2′-azinobis(3-ethylbenzothiazoline-6-sulfonic acid ammonium salt) (ABTS), ferric reducing/antioxidant power (FRAP) test and β-carotene-linoleic acid bleaching test. The results indicated that the sample from Shaoyang showed better antioxidant activity than the others. And the β-carotene-linoleic acid bleaching activity could reach 92.31%, when the concentration of the sample from Shaoyang was 4 mg/mL, indicating that the sample from Shaoyang possessed excellent antioxidant activity. The chemical compositions of the essential oil were finally identified by GC–MS, and more than 20 compounds were identified. Principal component analysis was also performed to investigate the difference of the essential oil samples.
Honey has been recognized for its role in disease prevention through nutritional modulation. In this study, we comprehensively assessed the physicochemical parameters, metabolic profile, antioxidant and anti-inflammatory activities of multifloral honeys produced by Apis cerana cerana in Sansha City (SS), Hainan Province. Metabolomic analysis identified SS honey had multiple bioactive compounds known for antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties. Compared to A. cerana cerana honey from central regions of Hainan Province, SS honey showed higher levels of TFC (113.80 mg RE/100 g) and TPC (45.86 mg GAE/100 g). Furthermore, SS honey demonstrated greater antioxidant activity, as evidenced by FRAP (1503.16 μmol TE/kg), DPPH IC 50 (36.13 mg/mL), and ABTS IC 50 (11.03 mg/mL). SS honey significantly reduced the levels of cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2), interleukin-1β (IL-1β), interleukin-6 (IL-6), inducible nitric oxide synthase (iNOS), and tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α) in lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-induced RAW 264.7 cells, along with suppressing the mRNA expression of these inflammatory markers.
