A novel anionic AFC-based waterborne polyurethane was synthesized by importing the fluorescent agent 7-amino-4-(trifluoromethyl)coumarin (AFC) into the polyurethane chains. Structure of the WPU-AFC was confirmed by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) and UV–visible absorption spectroscopy. Number average molecular weight and average emulsion particle size for WPU-AFC were also determined. It was found that the fluorescence intensity of WPU-AFC decreased with the increasing temperature and was enhanced compared with that of AFC. The improved thermal stability of WPU-AFC could be attributed to the incorporation of benzopyrone units in the preformed urethane groups. Furthermore, the fluorescence of WPU-AFC emulsion was very stable for long-term storage and it was a promising agent utilized in the specific collagen fiber materials.

Dipeptidyl peptidase I (DPPI) is a lysosomal cysteine protease and derived from immune granule cells . It has been suggested playing an important role in the development of rheumatoid arthritis . In this study, a coumarin based fluorescent probe (GF-AFC) was designed and synthesized to evaluate DPPI activity in serum or tissue homogenates of collagen-induced arthritis (CIA) rats, an inflammatory arthropathy model. It was revealed that the fluorescent intensity was significantly increased in a very short time after specific substrate GF-AFC reacted with the DPPI. The fluorophore (AFC) was released to shine after the cleavage reaction which was examined by 19 F NMR spectroscopy. It has been shown that DPPI hydrolyzed the GF-AFC in a robust, linear, and time dependent manner at a significant high rate. A serum-based DPPI activity assay was validated by spiking and gradient dilution methods, there were no interferences or auto-fluorescence observed. The Coefficient of Variance calculated for serum-based DPPI activity assays indicates the good reproducibility. The good correlation has been seen between serum DPPI levels and the severity of arthritis during RA development in CIA rats. Our study has demonstrated a new serum based diagnostic assay for detecting DPPI activity using coumarin conjugated fluorescent (GF-AFC) as a substrate. The successful implementation of the case would provide beneficial experience in rheumatoid arthritis research.

Oral medical wastewater with heavy metal ions (such as plumbum, Pb 2+ ) is regarded as the main pollutant produced in the oral cavity diagnosis, and the treatment process can pose a serious threat to human health. The removal of Pb 2+ from oral medical wastewater facing major difficulties and challenges. Therefore, it is of great significance to take effective measures to remove Pb 2+ by using effective methods. A new activated three-dimensional framework carbon (3D AFC), regarded as the main material to remove Pb 2+ in the oral medical wastewater, has been fabricated successfully. In this experiment, the effects of 3D AFC absorbing Pb 2+ under different conditions (including solid-to-liquid ratio, pH, ionic strength, contact time, and initial concentration, etc.) were discussed. And the result revealed that the adsorption kinetics process of Pb 2+ on 3D AFC conformed to the pseudo-second-order model and the adsorption isotherm conformed to the Freundlich model. Under the condition that pH = 5.5 and T = 298 k, the calculated maximum adsorption capacity of 3D AFC for Pb 2+ was 270.88 mg/g. In practical application, it has strong adsorption ability for Pb 2+ in oral medical wastewater. Thus, 3D AFC shows promise for Pb 2+ remove and recovery applications because of high adsorption capacity for Pb 2+ in oral medical wastewater due to its high specific surface area, outstanding three-dimensional network structure.

Brominated flame retardants (BFRs) resist degradation in conventional wastewater treatments, posing ecological and health risks. Herein, we innovatively developed an alginate-encapsulated Fe/Ni- Citrobacter synergistic system (AFC-Syn) for synergistic BFRs degradation in a continuous stirred-tank reactor (CSTR) treating real municipal wastewater. Remarkably, the system achieved sustained removal efficiencies of >90% for Tetrabromobisphenol A (TBBPA), Decabromodiphenyl ether (BDE-209), and Hexabromocyclododecane (HBCD), over 30 days, with complete degradation within 48 h, while simultaneously controlling COD and nutrient levels (>85% removal). In the system, in addition to direct electron transfer between Fe/Ni and membrane-binding proteins, the carboxyl groups in alginate are proposed to potentially serve as electron-hopping sites to enable long-range electron transport. Meanwhile, the alginate-encapsulated Fe/Ni continuously release Fe 2+ /Ni 2+ , which act as soluble electron carriers to accelerate electron transfer—either to BFRs for debromination or to microorganisms to stimulate their growth. Ultimately, the electrons are captured by dehalogenase, cleaving C Br bonds and driving the stepwise debromination. Metagenomic and metatranscriptomic analyses revealed persistent enrichment of keystone functional genera, collectively accounting for over 30% of the microbial community. These microorganisms activated interconnected gene networks, thereby establishing an integrated functional axis that synergistically links pollutant degradation, electron transfer, and nutrient cycling. This integration prevented toxic intermediate accumulation while achieving complete decontamination.
