A series of robust AgCl/WO 3 composite microrods (0.1–0.2 μ m) with different Ag/W molar ratios (0.25, 0.50, 0.75, 1.00, 1.25) were synthesized via hydrothermal-calcination process. The obtained samples were characterized by XRD , SEM, TEM , FT-IR, UV-vis DRS, PL , BET, Raman, transient TPRT and EIS . The photocatalytic test for organic dyes degradation showed that AgCl/WO 3 microrods possess much higher photocatalytic activities and stability than bare AgCl and WO 3 . With optimal AgCl/WO 3 molar ratio (0.75 ∼ 1), 2 ∼ 5 times increase in dye decomposition efficiency was obtained over AgCl/WO 3 microrods. The formation of intimate WO 3 /AgCl heterojuction (interface) largely enhanced the separation efficiency of photogenerated carriers. This investigation suggested that AgCl/WO 3 microrods could a promising photocatalyst for environmental remediation.
In this study, the Ag/AgCl/WO 3 plasmonic Z-scheme photocatalysts with different contents of Ag/AgCl nanoparticles (NPs) were prepared through a facile ultrasonic precipitation method in geothermal water , wherein the geothermal water served as the chlorine source. Then the photocatalytic activity was investigated by degradation of 4-Aminobenzoic acid (4-ABA) under visible-light irradiation. It was found that the as-prepared 50 wt% Ag/AgCl/WO 3 photocatalyst showed the highest photocatalytic efficiency with 25.12 and 3.53 times higher than those of pure WO 3 and Ag/AgCl, respectively. The active species trapping experiments indicated that h + and ·O 2 − were key factors in 4-ABA photodegradation process. The possible plasmonic Z-scheme photocatalytic mechanism of photocatalytic reaction for 4-ABA degradation was proposed based on systematical characterizations. We hope this paper could give new ideas for further exploiting geothermal energy to design and fabricate highly efficient visible-light-driven photocatalysts for environmental remediation.
Antibiotic contamination is increasing scrutinized recently. In this work, the Ag−AgCl/WO 3 /g-C 3 N 4 (AWC) nanocomposites were successfully synthesized using a two-step process involving electrostatic self-assembly and in-situ deposition for trimethoprim (TMP) degradation. The as-prepared photocatalysts were investigated and characterized by XRD, FTIR, XPS, TGA, SEM, TEM , UV–vis, PL and EIS. The experimental results indicated that 99.9% of TMP (4 mg/L) was degraded within 60 min when the concentration of AWC was 0.5 g/L. Reactive species scavenging experiments and electron spin resonance (ESR) experiments illustrated that superoxide radical (•O 2 − ) and photogenerated holes (h + ) were the main active species. The functional theory calculation and identification of intermediates via HPLC-MS revealed the possible degradation pathways of TMP. A double photoelectron-transfer mechanism in AWC photocatalyst was proposed. Five cycling photocatalytic tests and reactions under different solution matrix effects further supported that the AWC was a promising photocatalyst for the removal of TMP from the aquatic environment.
