The predominant method for pest control has been the use of pesticides, which have been shown to have detrimental effects on soil, freshwater, and crop quality. Therefore, the development of novel and sustainable crop protection strategies has become increasingly imperative. In this study, a novel orange–red emitting Ba 2 SrWO 6 : Sm 3+ phosphor was synthesized using the high-temperature solid-state reaction. Under ultraviolet excitation, the phosphors showed obvious emission peaks at 575, 614, and 662 nm. The Ba 2 SrWO 6 : Sm 3+ was used to fabricate a fluorescence film with polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS), and attracted twice as many insects as the blank control group under 365 nm ultraviolet light. This material holds great potential as a fluorescent agent for insect trapping in the pest control fields of tea, cotton, eggplant, rice, potato, grape, and other agricultural industries. Our findings provide an eco-friendly approach to pest management for the increment of food production.
All inorganic double perovskites have been adopted as photo-luminescent hosts due to their high stability, absorption coefficient and carrier mobility. Various photo-luminescent properties are being investigated in double perovskites including infrared emitting, upconverting, afterglowing, temperature sensing and so on. Taking advantage of the Boltzmann distributed energy levels, erbium ions are gifted as spectral temperature sensing centers. Here, we synthesized Er 3+ doped monoclinic Ba 2 SrWO 6 (BSWO) double perovskites and carried out a series of examinations for their upconverting as well as temperature sensing characteristics. Upon 980 and 1550 nm excitation, the upconversion processes are determined by the relationship between emission intensities against excitation powers. The optical temperature sensitivities are evaluated by exploiting fluorescence intensity ratio (FIR) and lifetime, where the maximum values for FIR and lifetime sensitivities are 14.3 × 10 −3 and 2.2 × 10 −3 K −1 respectively, suggesting that Er 3+ doped double perovskites hold great potential for the development of novel optical temperature sensing materials.
Herein, a novel Ba 2 SrWO 6 :Mn 4+ , La 3+ (BSW:Mn 4+ , La 3+ ) far-red phosphor was obtained by an addition strategy of La ion to negligible-luminescence BSW:Mn. Deep-red emission peaks at ∼ 664, 679 and 690 nm were observed for BSW:Mn 4+ , La 3+ with the excitation band in the 250 ∼ 600 nm spectral range, which are well matched to the absorption of chlorophyll and phytochromes. An impressive nanorod surface micro-morphology was observed in BSW samples and the size of the surface-grown nanorods can be changed by the addition of La ions. It was speculated that the generation of oxygen vacancies in BSW:Mn probably causes the self-reduction process of Mn 4+ → Mn 2+ , and a charge replenishment mechanism was proposed to explain the abnormal luminescence of Mn 4+ ions. The BSW:0.5%Mn, 5%La phosphor showed a CIE chromaticity coordinate of (0.724, 0.276) with a high color purity of 100%. In addition, the internal and external quantum efficiency of BSW:0.5%Mn, 5%La phosphor reach as high as 51.9% and 39.5%, respectively. Finally, LED devices were fabricated by using the as-prepared BSW:0.5%Mn, 5%La phosphor and applied in the illumination on tomato seeds. It shows that the LED devices can promote the seeding of tomatoes effectively, indicating a potential application value in the plant cultivation field.
