BaCe 0.7 Zr 0.1 Y 0.2 O 3-δ /Ni-BaCe 0.7 Zr 0.1 Y 0.2 O 3-δ dual-layer hollow fiber membranes are prepared by a co-spinning/co-sintering method, which is a simple and practical technique to integrate the electrolyte (BaCe 0.7 Zr 0.1 Y 0.2 O 3-δ ) and the electrode (Ni-BaCe 0.7 Zr 0.1 Y 0.2 O 3-δ ). A galvanic hydrogen pump is assembled by using this dual-layer hollow fiber membrane for hydrogen separation from dilute H 2 streams, in which the hydrogen permeation can be moderately controlled by the applied voltage. At 550℃ and 2 V voltage, a hydrogen flux of 2.15 mL·min −1 ·cm −2 and a hydrogen recovery rate of 81% are obtained when the feed is low concentration (13 vol%) H 2 stream. The one-step manufacturing method of integrating electrolytes and electrodes can be regarded as a more efficient method for the mass production of micro-tubular galvanic hydrogen pumps.

Micro-tubular protonic ceramic fuel cells (MT-PCFCs) exhibit substantial advantages such as high energy conversion efficiency, large volumetric power density, and intermediate operating temperature. The performance of MT-PCFCs is highly dependent on the microstructure of the microtubes. In this study, BaCe 0.7 Zr 0.1 Y 0.2 O 3-δ (BCZY)/Ni-BCZY (electrolyte/anode) dual-layer hollow fibers (DLHFs) are fabricated in a single step by co-spinning/co-sintering technique, which significantly reduces manufacturing time and cost. The relationship between the MT-PCFCs performance and the microstructure of the DLHFs is investigated. By adjusting the cermet powder content and the spinning rate, the microstructure of DLHFs is tailored and optimized to achieve the best performance for the MT-PCFCs. Experimental results indicate that the anode structure with thick finger-like voids inside and thin sponge-like interlayer closely attached to the thin electrolyte film is favorable to obtain high performance MT-PCFCs. A maximum power density of 554.5 mW cm -2 for the optimal MT-PCFC is achieved at 700 ℃.

Proton-conducting perovskite oxide BaCe 0.7 Zr 0.1 Y 0.2 O 3-δ (BZCY) is prepared by carbonate coprecipitation method using Tween-80 as the surfactant . A powder with well dispersed particles of an average size of 200 nm is obtained. The powder is applied as the original material of the electrolyte in an Ni-based anode-supported protonic ceramic fuel cell (PCFC). The electrolyte can be densified to high density after co-sintering with the anode substrate, without any sintering aids, at 1400 °C in open air. The PCFC with an electrolyte thickness of 20 μm, using humid hydrogen (3% H 2 O) as the fuel and ambient air as the oxidant, gives a peak power density of 1050 mW cm −2 at 700 °C. The conducting activation energy of the electrolyte is 0.36 eV. The superiority of the BZCY powder prepared by the coprecipitation method is investigated by comparing with a BZCY powder made by conventional solid-state reaction method.
