DyF3/Bi2O3 nanowires with orthorhombic DyF3 and triclinic Bi2O3 phases were synthesized via a facile hydrothermal route using sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS). The composite nanowires were characterized by X-ray diffraction, electron microscopy, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy. The obtained composite nanowires have the length of longer than 10 μm and diameter of about 20–100 nm. X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy confirms the composition of Dy, F, Bi and O in the composite nanowires. The formation process of the DyF3/Bi2O3 nanowires was analyzed based on the morphological and structural evolution of the products from different growth conditions. The cyclic voltammetry (CV) measurement demonstrates good electro-catalytic activity of the composite nanowires towards L-cysteine. Two pairs of CV peaks at +0.08 V, −0.43 V and −0.48 V, −0.78 V, respectively are observed at the DyF3/Bi2O3 nanowires modified glassy carbon electrode. DyF3/Bi2O3 nanowires modified glassy carbon electrode detects L-cysteine linearly over a concentration range from 0.001 to 2 mM with a detection limit of 0.25 μM. Moreover, the results show good selectivity, reproducibility and stability of the DyF3/Bi2O3 nanowires as a promising candidate for L-cysteine determination.

Hydrogen production from electrolyzed water, when coupled with green power generation technology, can achieve carbon-free hydrogen production. Designing and synthesizing non-noble metal-based electrocatalysts is crucial for advancing hydrogen production from electrolytic water. Non-noble metal oxide, one-dimensional Bi 2 O 3 nanowires, owing to their unique nanowire morphology, offer the benefits of a large specific surface area and high conductivity. These properties make them potential candidates for oxygen evolution reaction (OER) applications. In this work, we sequentially designed and synthesized a series of multi-metal doped Bi 2 O 3 nanowire samples using a straightforward solvothermal method. Electrocatalytic measurements revealed that the OER performance of these multi-metal doped Bi 2 O 3 nanowires were significantly surpassed that of undoped Bi 2 O 3 samples. Specifically, the CoFeNiMn-Bi 2 O 3 -PMA nanowires achieve a current density of 10 mA cm −2 with an overpotential of merely 285 mV in a 1 M KOH solution, and a Tafel slope of 66 mV dec −1 . Through comprehensive characterization and electrocatalytic assessments, we determined that the enhanced OER activity of the CoFeNiMn-Bi 2 O 3 -PMA nanowires can be attributed to the synergistic effects of Co, Fe, Ni, and Mn elements. Notably, intense electronic interactions among these metal elements led to an elevated concentration of high-oxidation-state cations, such as Co 3+ and Fe 3+ , along with increased oxygen vacancies. These features collectively augmented the number of reactive sites on the sample surface. Furthermore, stability tests indicated that the CoFeNiMn-Bi 2 O 3 -PMA nanowires exhibited robust stability, with only a marginal overpotential increase observed during 8 h of chronopotentiometry measurement at a current density of 50 mA cm −2 . This work confirms the efficacy of a simple modification process involving multi-metal doping, designed to enhance the performance of one-dimensional nanowire electrocatalysts, which provide a valuable reference for future research aimed at developing non-noble metal-based electrocatalysts.

In this work, novel photocatalytic C-doped Bi 2 O 3 nanowires were prepared by a facile method using BN-0.5 adsorbent as a precursor. BN-0.5 adsorbent with nanowire structure was successfully synthesized by a novel solvothermal method by controlling the dosage of 1, 4-benzenedicarboxylic acid (H 2 BDC). BN-0.5 was not only used as template in the preparation to maintain the nanowire structure, but also as a source of C. The C elements could not only enhance the absorption of BPA, but also enhance effective spatial separation of photo-generated e − /h + pairs. As a consequence, the removal ratio of BPA over C-doped Bi 2 O 3 nanowires could reach 98.9%, after only 24 min of illumination. The removal mechanism of BPA on the C-doped Bi 2 O 3 nanowires was discussed. More importantly, this work provides a facile method for the preparation of C-doped Bi 2 O 3 nanowires, which are potential photocatalysts for treatment of water and are also suitable for mass production. These findings will help to design ideal structure, understand catalytic mechanism and spur development of solar driven technologies for environmental remediation.
