Fumonisin B 1 (FB 1 ) is a mycotoxin mainly found in corn, peanuts, and wheat crops, which affects human health. Based on bismuth sulfide/bismuth oxychloride (Bi 2 S 3 /BiOCl) composite material, silver sulfide (Ag 2 S) was grown in situ as a quantum dot sensitization signal, and a photoelectrochemical (PEC) aptasensor was designed by layer upon layer modification to detect FB 1 . Bi 2 S 3 /BiOCl has a wide range of visible light absorption, stable chemical properties, and a simple synthesis method. In the construction process, L-ascorbic acid (AA) is selected to provide electrons and inhibit photogenerated electron-hole (e - /h + ) recombination. Under the optimal experimental conditions, the detection range of the fabricated PEC aptasensor was 0.001 ~ 100 ng/mL, and the detection limit was 0.016 pg/mL. The prepared PEC aptasensor has high sensitivity, stability, and reproducibility. The combination of aptamer and PEC sensor provides a novel method for the application of PEC sensor in mycotoxin detection. Graphical

Enhancing the photocatalytic performance via improving the separation efficiency of photo-induced carriers is a promising strategy. Here, a type-II Bi2S3/BiOCl heterostructure was successfully fabricated by an ultrasound method to tackle this issue. The experimental results revealed that BiS/BOC-4 can purified 89% TC-HCl (20 mg L−1, k = 0.0627 min−1) in 30 min, which was 2.6 and 5.5 fold larger than BiOCl (k = 0.0245 min−1) and Bi2S3 (k = 0.0113 min−1), respectively. Moreover, the mechanism behind the improved photocatalytic activity was derived from the good light-utilization efficiency, eminent adsorption ability, and excellent separation efficiency of the carriers induced by the coupling of the oxygen vacancies (OVs) and the interfacial electric field (IEF). Simultaneously, the structure–activity relationship between the photocatalytic performance and the concentration of OVs was established via the response surface methodology. This work not only provides a promising strategy to ameliorate the photocatalytic activity by syngestic vacancy engineering and heterostructure engineering, but also offers a new angle to understand the relationship between defects and the activity.
Using photoelectrochemical (PEC) platform for ultrasensitive detection of sulfate-reducing bacteria (SRB) is a big challenge since sensor sensitive component can be damaged by corrosive metabolites. In this work, a novel bio-etching strategy for sensitizing PEC platform is developed to detect SRB. In the presence of bacterial metabolite (H 2 S), BiOCl platform can be bio-etched to form Bi 2 S 3 /BiOCl p-n heterojunction, leading to a significant enhancement of photocurrent . The PEC sensing platform fabricated by bio-etching strategy presents acceptable detection specificity and high detection sensitivity with a low detection limit of 29 cfu/mL for SRB. The current work can provide new strategies to sensitize PEC platforms for detection of microorganisms that produce corrosive metabolite.
