In this work, Dy 3+ -doped Bi 2 SiO 5 nanoparticles with uniform spherical morphology and narrow size distribution have been successfully synthesized using a facile template-assisted approach. The effects of sintering temperature and Dy 3+ doping concentration on the phase composition, morphology, and luminescence properties of Bi 2 SiO 5 :Dy 3+ nanophosphor are systematically investigated through X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy, and photoluminescence (PL) spectroscopy. X-ray diffraction results confirm that the synthesized Bi 2 SiO 5 :Dy 3+ nanospheres exhibit a pure tetragonal phase. Meanwhile, the phosphor particles are composed of monodisperse nanospheres with an average diameter of approximately 265 nm. Upon excitation at 388 nm, intense photoluminescence is noted in the blue ( 4 F 9/2 → 6 H 15/2 ) and yellow ( 4 F 9/2 → 6 H 13/2 ) spectral regions due to the characteristic emissions of Dy 3+ ions. Temperature-dependent PL spectra reveal that the optimized Bi 2 SiO 5 :2.5%Dy 3+ nanospheres maintain extraordinary luminescence thermal stability, retaining 81.0% of its emission intensity at 423 K compared to 303 K. The phosphor also showed remarkable color stability, with CIE chromaticity coordinates shifting minimally from (0.377, 0.413) at 303 K to (0.373, 0.407) at 423 K. This newly developed Bi 2 SiO 5 :Dy 3+ nanospheres exhibit commendable PL properties, enabling them as promising candidates for yellow phosphors in LEDs and display applications.

Yolk–shell structured Bi2SiO5:Yb3+,Er3+ upconversion nanophosphors have been successfully synthesized via a simple template-assisted route, in which the reaction of Yb3+/Er3+ co-doped bismuth precursor nanospheres with the silica capping layer in situ is ingeniously designed and controlled. The phase transition and morphology evolution are investigated in detail by X-ray powder diffraction and high-resolution electron microscopy to propose the formation mechanism of the yolk–shell nanostructure. The yielded Bi2SiO5:Yb3+,Er3+ nanophosphors can emit bright green upconversion luminescence under the excitation of a 980 nm laser diode, which enables them to be promising emitters for optoelectronic devices. The potential of the Bi2SiO5:Yb3+,Er3+ nanophosphors as an optical nanothermometer is also demonstrated. The proposed facile synthetic route, unique yolk–shell nanostructure and good upconversion luminescence performance lead the way to access these lanthanide-doped Bi2SiO5 nanophosphors for applications in biotechnology and optoelectronic devices.

A novel fabrication method was developed to synthesize ZnO/Bi 2 SiO 5 heterostructure films with enhanced piezo-photocatalytic activity for efficient water pollutant removal. The heterostructure was constructed through in-situ growth of ZnO nanorods on inverse opal structured Bi 2 SiO 5 films. The ZnO/Bi 2 SiO 5 heterointerface significantly increases charge carrier concentration, while the inverse opal morphology enhances light harvesting through diffuse reflection effect. The optimized ZnO/Bi 2 SiO 5 films demonstrated remarkable degradation efficiency for Rhodamine B (RhB), achieving substantially higher performance under combined UV and ultrasonic excitation compared to individual ZnO or Bi 2 SiO 5 films. This enhanced activity is attributed to synergistic effects between the heterostructure and piezoelectric properties, which collectively promote charge separation and catalytic activity. This work provides two significant advances: (i) a facile route for fabricating ordered heterostructure photocatalysts, and (ii) a demonstrated strategy for boosting piezo-photocatalytic efficiency through precise morphological and structural control. The developed ZnO/Bi 2 SiO 5 system shows strong potential for practical applications in water pollution remediation, offering both high performance and environmental sustainability.

A self-modified Bi2SiO5/Bi12SiO20 heterojunction was synthesized for the first time via a citric acid-assisted hydrothermal method. It was found that citric acid (CA) played two roles in the formation of the Bi2SiO5/Bi12SiO20 heterojunction: enhancement of the specific surface area due to the release of many volatiles from the decomposition of CA and tuning the weight ratio of Bi2SiO5 and Bi12SiO20 in the heterojunction by forming different complexes with Bi3+. Thus, a self-modified Bi2SiO5/Bi12SiO20 heterojunction prepared at a CA dosage of 11.25 mmol presented an I27.9 : I29.2 value of 1.52 and a BET specific surface area of 32.6 m2 g−1, 5.7 times that without addition of CA. It showed the highest first-order apparent reaction constant of 0.1694 min−1 in the photocatalytic degradation of acid orange 7 (AO7), which is 1.8, 53.0, and 2.2 times that of Bi2SiO5, Bi12SiO20, and TiO2 (P25), respectively. The capture experiments show that the main active species that degraded AO7 are not O2˙− and ˙OH but h+vb. During the AO7 degradation, four intermediates, sulfonic acid, oxalic acid, benzenesulfonic acid, and 4-aminobenzenesulfonic acid, were identified by capillary electrophoresis/capacitively coupled contactless conductivity detection. Finally, other pollutants, rhodamine B, p-chlorophenol, and tetracycline, were also found to be efficiently removed by the Bi2SiO5/Bi12SiO20-mediated photocatalysis system.

Photocatalysis CO 2 reduction into high-value-added chemical feedstocks is desirable for simultaneously addressing the solar energy storage, CO 2 excess and energy shortage issues. In this work, a kind of original S-scheme BiOBr-(0 0 1)/Bi 2 SiO 5 /Bi (OSB) heterostructure photocatalyst with rich oxygen vacancies is in-situ synthesized, which significantly promotes the photocatalytic CO 2 reduction performance. Interestingly, the lower formation energy of oxygen vacancy exhibits the easy feasibility on the BiOBr-(0 0 1) surface via the assistant of ultrasound. There exists the highest photocatalytic CO 2 reduction activity to CO of 234.05 μmol g -1 h −1 for OSB-20 sample (ultrasound time: 20 min), higher 3.3 times than OSB-0 sample (without ultrasound). Combined with experimental and calculated results, the significative formation mechanism, widened light-response range, highly-efficient separation/transfer paths and improved redox-reduction abilities of photogenerated electron-hole pairs for S-scheme OSB-20 heterostructure are investigated and proposed. Our findings provide new insights for the construction and synthesis of the S-scheme Bi-based heterojunction photocatalyst system.

Synthesis of hierarchical interwoven nanoflower Bi 2 SiO 5 /rGO composite. • In situ XRD shows conversion-alloying Na⁺ storage mechanism of Bi 2 SiO 5 . • Reversible Bi alloying in Bi 2 SiO 5 /rGO sustains 198 mAh g –1 after 100 cycles. • Irreversible conversion forms stable Bi/Na 2 O/SiO 2 nanocomposite for reversible Bi alloying. Sodium-ion batteries (SIBs) have emerged as an alternative to lithium-ion batteries due to their abundant resources and low cost. However, developing anode materials compatible with the larger ionic radius of sodium remains challenging. This study proposes a Bi 2 SiO 5 /reduced graphene oxide (rGO) composite constructed by hierarchically stacked nanosheets as an anode for SIBs. The Bi 2 SiO 5 /rGO electrode delieves rate capability with reversible capacities of 279.6, 266.9, 237.4, 174.7, and 131.1 mAh g –1 at current densities of 20, 50, 100, 200, and 500 mA g –1 , respectively. Furthermore, the material retains a specific capacity of 198.3 mAh g –1 after 100 cycles when tested at a current density of 50 mA g –1 . In addition, in-situ X-ray diffraction (XRD) analysis revealed that the material underwent conversion and alloying reactions during sodiation and desodiation. Meanwhile, the full cell assembled with this material exhibited a reversible capacity of 78 mAh g –1 after 30 cycles. These results provide insights for the development of bismuth-based anode materials sodium-ion batteries. A Bi 2 SiO 5 /rGO anode with a three-dimensional porous nanosheet architecture is reported. This anode exhibits rate capability and cycling stability. The sodium storage mechanism of Bi 2 SiO 5 was investigated using in situ XRD, and a full cell was constructed to evaluate its practical feasibility. The development of advanced X-ray-responsive detection materials is essential for ensuring radiation safety and enabling high-precision imaging. Here, we report a Bi2SiO5:Eu3+ phosphor that exhibits a synergistic multimodal optical response to X-rays, combining radioluminescence, reversible radiochromism, and tunable luminescence modulation within a single material. Upon irradiation, the phosphor undergoes a distinct and reversible color change from white to brown, which correlates linearly with the X-ray dose through a measurable decrease in reflectance. Simultaneously, both its photoluminescence and radioluminescence intensities vary linearly with radiation dose, enabling quantitative optical dosimetry. Spectroscopic and structural analyses reveal that the reversible behavior arises from oxygen-vacancy-mediated color centers, which form without altering the host lattice. Furthermore, a flexible composite film fabricated from Bi2SiO5:Eu3+ enables multimodal high-resolution (10.3 lp mm–1) X-ray imaging and direct visual dose readout. This work introduces a promising class of lead-free, multifunctional phosphors and offers mechanistic insight for next-generation intelligent X-ray detection and visualization technologies.

AgBr/Bi 2 SiO 5 photocatalyst with Z-scheme structure was obtained via a hydrothermal reaction, calcination, and in situ precipitation process. The as-prepared AgBr/Bi 2 SiO 5 composite photocatalytically degraded 96.2% of RhB under visible light irradiation within 30 min. Moreover, the photodegradation efficiency remained above 81.7% after being reused five times. Trapping experiments revealed that ·O 2− was the main reactive species during RhB photodegradation. The degradation mechanism study of AgBr/Bi 2 SiO 5 showed that the Z-scheme structure between AgBr and Bi 2 SiO 5 facilitated the separation of charge carriers, thereby improving the photocatalytic degradation with the assistance of a dye sensitization effect. This work provides a reference for developing other Z-scheme photocatalysts for the removal of organic pollutants.

Core-shell Bi2SiO5 nanosystem with uniform morphology and narrow size distribution has been successfully synthesized via a facile template-assisted route. With the introduction of Eu3+, detailed studies are performed to evaluate its promise as Eu3+-based phosphor host. The yielded Bi2SiO5:Eu3+ nanospheres are proven to be pure tetragonal phase via X-ray diffraction and Rietveld refinement. Moreover, the phosphor particles consist of monodisperse spheres with an average diameter of approximately 285 nm by high-resolution electron microscopy. When excited by near-ultraviolet (NUV) light, the abnormally high-intensity emission at 703 nm arising from the 5D0→7F4 transition of Eu3+ is observed. The temperature-dependent photoluminescence spectra show that the optimized Bi2SiO5:20%Eu3+ have satisfactory thermal stability with 63.7% of emission intensity at 423 K relative to 303 K. The deep-red light-emitting diode (LED) device fabricated by coating NUV chip with the Bi2SiO5:20%Eu3+ phosphors is demonstrated. The newly-developed Bi2SiO5:Eu3+ nanophosphors display commendable photoluminescence properties, demonstrating their promise as deep-red phosphor candidates for use in phosphor-converted LEDs.

Semiconductor photocatalysis has driven considerable interests for its desirable potential to tackle the worldwide energy shortage and environmental pollution. In this paper, a novel Bi 5 O 7 I/Bi 2 SiO 5 Z-scheme heterojunction photocatalyst was in situ synthesized via a co-crystallization process and partial anion exchange strategy. The XRD and FT-IR pattern validated the successful preparation of the heterojunction. The optimal Bi 5 O 7 I/Bi 2 SiO 5 heterojunction displayed an excellent photocatalytic activity towards the ciprofloxacin under the simulated solar light, and the rate constant (0.46021 h −1 ) was 2 and 7.8 times higher than that of pure BiOI (0.22967 h −1 ) and Bi 2 SiO 5 (0.05877 h −1 ). Similarly, the degradation efficiency on rhodamine B (RhB) reached 94%, which was much higher than that of the single photocatalysis. The enhanced photocatalytic performance of the heterojunction photocatalyst could be attributed to the formation of the direct Z-scheme heterojunction between the Bi 5 O 7 I and Bi 2 SiO 5 , which was favorable for retarding the recombination of photoinduced electron-hole pairs. Moreover, the bacteriostatic activity testing illustrated the toxicity of drug solutions decreased sharply after the photocatalytic degradation with the Bi 5 O 7 I/Bi 2 SiO 5 -3. The ESR characterization analysis and the free radical trapping experiments synergistically determined the Z-scheme electron transfer path of the heterojunction. The possible photocatalytic mechanism of Bi 5 O 7 I/Bi 2 SiO 5 heterojunction was proposed. Overall, the well-designed Bi 5 O 7 I/Bi 2 SiO 5 heterojunction depicted great practical promise in efficient treatment of organic pollutants.

Semiconductor photocatalysis is a promising method to solve the problem of antibiotic pollution in water. A series of Bi 2 SiO 5 /BiVO 4 composite photocatalysts for tetracycline and levofloxacin degradation are prepared by a two-step hydrothermal method. Analysis results show that the as-prepared Bi 2 SiO 5 /BiVO 4 (2:3) hybrid exhibits better photocatalytic activity than pure samples under visible light illumination. The photocatalytic degradation efficiency of the as-prepared composite shows the maximum of 72.2% within 120 min for tetracycline, which is higher than 43.5% of pure Bi 2 SiO 5 and 67.2% of pure BiVO 4 , respectively. Furthermore, it is 80.3% within 120 min for levofloxacin, which is higher than 7.6% of pure Bi 2 SiO 5 and 69.7% of pure BiVO 4 , respectively. The formation of n–n isotype heterojunction at the interface of Bi 2 SiO 5 and BiVO 4 in the as-prepared composites causes to the improvement of the transport rate and separation efficiency of the photogenerated electron and hole pairs. In addition, the holes play a dominant role in the photocatalytic degradation process. This work will provide a reference for the study of visible light driven photocatalysts to solve antibiotics pollution in water.

Bi 2 SiO 5 /CuBi 2 O 4 Z-Scheme heterojunction enriched with oxygen vacancies were prepared by a simple one-pot hydrothermal method. The photocatalytic activity of Bi 2 SiO 5 /CuBi 2 O 4 nanocomposites was evaluated under visible light irradiation using tetracycline, antibiotic-resistant Escherichia coli (AR E. coli ), and tetracycline-resistant genes as the target pollutants. The results showed that Bi 2 SiO 5 /CuBi 2 O 4 nanocomposites had the best photocatalytic activity, which could degrade 83.3 % of tetracycline within 2 h, completely inactivate AR E. coli within 2.5 h, and almost completely destroy tetracycline-resistant genes within 3 h. In addition, the scavenging experiments and ESR experiments not only showed that the active substances of O 2 - , h + and OH played a dominant role and 1 O 2 played a secondary role in the photocatalytic system of Bi 2 SiO 5 /CuBi 2 O 4 nanocomposites, but also confirmed that the Z-Scheme heterojunction was successfully constructed between Bi 2 SiO 5 and CuBi 2 O 4 . Oxygen vacancies were detected by EPR experiments. The formation of oxygen vacancies and Z-Scheme heterojunction enhanced the light absorption properties of the Bi 2 SiO 5 /CuBi 2 O 4 nanocomposites and improved the separation efficiency of the photogenerated electron-hole pairs compared to the single Bi 2 SiO 5 and CuBi 2 O 4 materials. This work showed that Bi 2 SiO 5 /CuBi 2 O 4 was a new and efficient photocatalyst for the removal of tetracycline, AR E. coli and tetracycline-resistant genes, which provided a feasible idea for the management of water environment pollution.
