Fabrication of Zinc Oxide/Polypyrrole Nanocomposites for Brilliant Green Removal from Aqueous Phase

Zhang Mengmeng,Chang Liangliang,Zhao Yuanyuan,Yu Zehao

Zinc oxide/polypyrrole (ZnO/PPy) nanocomposites were fabricated by a in situ polymerization method. The structures of the nanocomposites were analyzed by X-ray diffraction, Fourier transform infrared spectra, thermogravimetric analysis and transmission electron spectroscopy. Then, the capability of ZnO/PPy on the removal of brilliant green from aqueous phase was systematically studied. The ZnO/PPy showed high adsorption capacity toward brilliant green, and a maximum adsorption capacity of 140.8 mg/g at room temperature was achieved. The adsorption kinetics demonstrated a rapid brilliant green uptake by ZnO/PPy, and the experimental data were well fitted to the pseudo-second-order model. The equilibrium data obeyed the Langmuir model. Thermodynamic parameters of \(\Delta {G}^{0}\) and \(\Delta {H}^{0}\) verified the spontaneous and endothermic nature of the brilliant green adsorption onto ZnO/PPy. Furthermore, the regeneration experiments revealed that ZnO/PPy could be reused for at least five times without considerable decrease in their original adsorption capacity, showing potential applications in purification of dyeing effluents.

Synthesis and Property Detection of the Ho2BiNbO7/ZnBiTmO4 Composite Catalyst for Photocatalytic Degradation of Brilliant Green

Jingfei Luan,Boyang Liu

A high-performance Z-scheme Ho2BiNbO7/ZnBiTmO4heterojunction (HZ) photocatalyst was prepared for the first time using a wet impregnation method. The HZ photocatalyst significantly improved the separation efficiency of the photoinduced electrons and the photoinduced holes; meanwhile, the HZ photocatalyst could effectively broaden the visible light spectrum via a specific mechanism of the Z-scheme heterojunction structure. The experimental results displayed that the HZ photocatalyst had strong catalytic activity when the brilliant green (BLG) was degraded. In particular, the degradation rate of BLG when using the HZ photocatalyst was found to be 99.47%, and the mineralization efficiency of the total organic carbon (TOC) concentration was found to be 98.26% when using the HZ photocatalyst under visible light irradiation (VILIIR). The HZ photocatalyst possessed higher photocatalytic activity compared with Ho2BiNbO7, ZnBiTmO4, or N-doped TiO2(N-T). The degradation rate of BLG when using the HZ photocatalyst was 1.27 times higher than that when using Ho2BiNbO7, 1.15 times higher than that when employing ZnBiTmO4, or 2.91 times higher than that when using N-T under VILIIR. The mineralization efficiency of the TOC concentration after catalytic degradation of BLG when employing the HZ photocatalyst was 1.31 times higher than that when employing Ho2BiNbO7, 1.19 times higher than that when employing ZnBiTmO4, or 3.14 times higher than that when using N-T under VILIIR. The experimental generating radicals confirmed that the HZ photocatalyst might produce diverse reactive radicals, which contained superoxide anions (•O2−), hydroxyl radicals (•OH) and photogenerated holes (h+) after catalytic degradation of BLG. The descending order of oxidizing capacity for above three radicals was as follows: •OH > •O2−> h+. The descending order of the photocatalytic activity for the four photocatalysts was as follows: HZ > ZnBiTmO4> Ho2BiNbO7> N-T. The intermediate degradation products of BLG were detected by employing the HZ photocatalyst during the photocatalytic degradation process of BLG; the reliability, reusability, and stability of the HZ photocatalyst were proven by quintic cyclical degradation experiments of BLG. This study developed the degradation pathways and degradation mechanism of BLG when using the HZ photocatalyst under VILIIR. This work supplies novel thought for the design and manufacture of Z-scheme heterojunction catalysts, and it provides a basis for developing an efficient environmental remediation technique for BLG pollution.

The influence of leveler Brilliant Green on copper superconformal electroplating based on electrochemical and theoretical study

Yaqiang Li,Penghui Ren,Yuanhang Zhang,Shengxu Wang,Jinqiu Zhang,Peixia Yang,Anmin Liu,Guangzhao Wang,Zhidong Chen,Maozhong An

Finding proper additive to achieve copper superconformal electrodeposition is significantly important. Brilliant Green exhibits excellent suppressing ability to the copper electrodeposition according to electrochemical analysis. Meanwhile, 100 mg/L was selected as the optimum value based on the convection-dependent adsorption behavior analysis of Brilliant Green. The interaction among three different additives was also investigated by applying chronopotentiometry as well as Brilliant Green compete to absorb on the cathode surface with SPS. Besides, the introduction of Brilliant Green can improve the transport of cupric ions (Cu 2+ ). The nucleation and growth of copper deposition is 3D diffusion-controlled instantaneous growth process at high overpotential but 3D diffusion-controlled mixing growth process at low overpotential. The synergistic suppressing mechanism was proposed to explain strong suppressing effect of BG on reduction of Cu 2+ and the reaction pathways was studied theoretically. Copper interconnect layer with high FP values (80.52 % to 84.38 %) was obtained with low SDT (about 28 μm) after electroplating process was optimized. The surface morphology under the influence of Brilliant Green is compact and uniform and the grain size is reduced by Brilliant Green.

Adsorption of Eosin Y, methyl orange and brilliant green from aqueous solution using ferroferric oxide/polypyrrole magnetic composite

Zhang Mengmeng,Yu Zehao,Yu Hongchao

Ferroferric oxide/polypyrrole (Fe 3 O 4 /PPy) composites were prepared by an in situ polymerization method. Several analysis techniques including X-ray diffraction, Fourier transform infrared spectra, thermogravimetric analysis and scanning electron microscopy are applied to analyze the structure and morphology of Fe 3 O 4 /PPy. The magnetic Fe 3 O 4 /PPy was further used as an adsorbent for removing Eosin Y, methyl orange and brilliant green from aqueous phase. The adsorption kinetics were investigated by pseudo-first-order, pseudo-second-order and intraparticle diffusion models, and the experimental data were well fitted to the pseudo-second order. The equilibrium adsorption data can be described by both the Langmuir and Freundlich isotherm models. The calculated Langmuir maximum adsorption capacities of Eosin Y, methyl orange and brilliant green at 25 °C are 212.31, 149.48 and 263.85 mg/g, respectively. Thermodynamic studies indicated that the adsorption process occurred spontaneously, in an endothermic and physisorption nature, and with increased disorder. Furthermore, the convenient magnetic separability of Fe 3 O 4 /PPy makes it a good candidate for practical application in the removal of organic dyes from polluted water.

A multimodal colorimetric biosensor for bisphenol A based on DNA walker signal amplification and the formation of a molybdophosphoric acid-brilliant green complex

Shunbi Xie,Can Huang,Yue Fu,Dicai Chen,Wantong Si,Linlei Liu

Aptamer combined with DNA walker and ALP enables sensitive indirect detection of BPA. • Brilliant green binds molybdophosphoric acid to generate yellow-green color shifts. • Three modes (UV–Vis, RGB, swab sensor) satisfy lab, field and house testing demands. Bisphenol A (BPA) is a ubiquitous contaminant prevalent in food and environmental matrices. Herein, a smartphone-assisted multichannel colorimetric biosensor for BPA detection is constructed by integrating BPA aptamer-activated DNA walker, alkaline phosphatase (ALP)-catalyzed hydrolysis, and the molybdophosphoric acid assay. The DNA walker is immobilized on magnetic beads through biotin-streptavidin interaction, which enables target-triggered DNAzyme release and cyclic cleavage reactions. This autonomous cyclic amplification process efficiently releases substantial ALP into the supernatant. The liberated ALP further catalyzes the hydrolysis of 4-nitrophenyl phosphate (4-NPP) to produce phosphate ions (Pi), which react with ammonium molybdate under acidic conditions to form 12-molybdophosphoric acid (12-MPA). The introduction of brilliant green (BG) induces a distinct solution color transition from yellow to green, and the color variation exhibits a positive correlation with BPA concentration. Based on the above sensing mechanism, three versatile detection modes are established, including laboratory-grade UV–Vis spectrophotometry, smartphone-based RGB colorimetry, and a portable cotton swab sensor. The proposed biosensor displays superior selectivity against BPA structural analogs, excellent reproducibility, and satisfactory spiked recovery in real milk sample detection. Leveraging low-cost commercial commodities (cotton swabs and smartphones) and cascaded signal amplification strategy, this work provides a cost-effective, user-friendly, and multi-scenario adaptable platform for BPA detection. Preparation of biomass carbon material based on Fomes fomentarius via alkali activation and its application for the removal of brilliant green in wastewater

Yuhan Xia,Yiping Jin,Jiaxu Qi,Huan Chen,Guang Chen,Shanshan Tang

Fomes fomentarius (L.) J. J. Kickx (FF), a fungal hyphae causing tree decay, has confused people for many years on how to deal with it economically and efficiently. In this study, fungal hyphae from FF was first time used as the carbon source to prepare biomass carbon material (BCFF) material via a simple method including carbonization at 600 °C and sodium hydroxide activation. Notably, BCFF-Na4-700-60 (with alkali-carbon ratio of 4:1 and heated at 700 °C for 60 min) showed a large specific surface area (3352 m 2 g −1 ) and a high pore volume (2.29 cm 3 g −1 ). Moreover, the synthetic dye brilliant green (BG) was selected as the dye model to investigate the adsorption performance and mechanism. The maximum adsorption capacity of BCFF-Na4-700-60 was 3166 mg g −1 at pH value of 9, which is superior to those of the great majority of adsorbents. After ten cycles, the adsorption capacity could still be maintained at about 53% of the original value. The results of these studies indicate that biomass carbon materials modified with forest pathogen have excellent adsorption capacity and cycling stability, which could be considered as a potential adsorbent for treatment of wastewater from dyeing industry. More importantly, this rapid and effective method can be further applied to other similar fungal hyphae.
