For a long time, there has been global concern over the environment and energy problems. Recently, the problems, which have brought about serious effect on the global living condition, have been in the “spotlight” and given impetus to the universal’s efforts to head for the same direction: stem the worst warming and strive for the renewable energy source . Hydrogen peroxide (H 2 O 2 ) is undoubtedly a good choice, which holds the promise as a clean, efficient, safe and transferrable energy carrier. Octahedral coordination polymer , Cd 3 (C 3 N 3 S 3 ) 2 , was found to be a robust photocatalyst for H 2 O 2 generation under visible light irradiation . To further improve the H 2 O 2 generation efficiency, adhering the octahedron to reduced graphene (rGO) was applied as the strategy herein. The study shows that by adhering Cd 3 (C 3 N 3 S 3 ) 2 to rGO , the formation of H 2 O 2 is 2.5-fold enhanced and its deformation is concurrently suppressed. This work not only demonstrates the effectiveness of adhering Cd 3 (C 3 N 3 S 3 ) 2 polymer to rGO for the improvement of the polymer’s photocatalytic performance, but also proposes a general way for the fabrication of graphene/coordination compound hybrids for maximizing their synergy.
Metal-free photocatalysts trithiocyanuric acid (C 3 N 3 S 3 ) and its polymers were one-step synthesized and used for selective aerobic oxidation of benzyl alcohol under visible light. The S–S bridged C 3 N 3 S 3 polymers showed higher oxidation activity with increasing polymerization time and reached a maximum at 40 h. As a major factor, catalysts’ solubility in water at different temperatures (from 298.15 K to 368.15 K) was measured at atmospheric pressure. The obtained data were correlated by polynomial empirical equation and modified Apelblat equation, respectively. Experimental results proved that the solubility of C 3 N 3 S 3 and its polymers increased with increasing temperature. The solubility of C 3 N 3 S 3 polymers with lower polymerization degree (DP) were better than that of parent C 3 N 3 S 3 owing to the hydrophilicity caused by a low symmetry and disorder structure, whereas the higher DP could lead to the decrease of polymer solubility and further affect the photocatalytic activity. Thermodynamic properties of the solution system including the enthalpy ( Δ H S 0 ) and heat capacity ( c p 0 ) were calculated by the modified Apelblat equation.
As an efficient and sustainable technology, photocatalysis driven by visible light has made great contributions to the removal of heavy metals from environment. In this work, a series of Cd 3 (TMT) 2 /CdS heterojunction composite photocatalysts were prepared by self-formation of CdS nanoparticles using an octahedral coordination polymer Cd 3 (C 3 N 3 S 3 ) 2 (denoted as Cd 3 (TMT) 2 ) as a precursor. The photocatalytic performance of Cd 3 (TMT) 2 /CdS heterojunction composites for Cr(VI) has been significantly improved under visible light irradiation owing to effective separation and migration of photoexcited charge carriers. Moreover, Cd 3 (TMT) 2 /CdS composites exhibited remarkable photocatalytic reduction performance of Cr(VI) solution with high concentration. This photocatalyst provides a novel route in the photoreduction of Cr(VI).
