Enhanced electrochemical detection of nitrite ions by CTAB-modified hexagonal Fe-doped SnS2 nanosheets in water

Hangxi Liu,Haorong Sun,Peng Zhao,Kangle Shang,Ming Fang,Xiaoli Tan,Long Yu,Bin Ma

Nitrite ions originate from various natural and anthropogenic sources and can cause health issues including methemoglobinemia and potential carcinogenic effects. As the nitrite in water has become an increasing threat to human health, the accurate evaluation of nitrite is urgently needed for environmental quality and safety management. In this paper, we designed a CTAB/SF5/GCE sensor, which exhibited an obvious enhancement compared to the pristine glassy carbon electrode (GCE). The morphology characterization confirmed the hexagonal nanosheets of SnS 2 and the even distribution of Fe element. The energy band, Tafel plots, and EIS spectroscopy were employed to investigate the enhancement mechanism, demonstrating that improving charge transfer on the sensing interface is crucial in enhanced signals. Cyclic voltammetry (CV) was adopted as the electrochemical method to measure the nitrite in water and a sensitivity of 0.129 μA·μM −1 was exhibited in the range of 30–500 μM, and the limit of detection (LOD) was calculated to be 6.51 μM. The reliability including the repeatability, reproducibility, and stability of this sensor were estimated and showed satisfactory results. The test in real samples and the assessment of interfering substances showed the CTAB/SF5/GCE possesses a large potential in the practical application of electrochemical sensing of nitrite.

Improved performance for polymer solar cells using CTAB-modified MoO3 as an anode buffer layer

Yanping Li,Huangzhong Yu,Xinxin Huang,Zuping Wu,Haihong Xu

We report a method to prepare molybdenum oxide thin films using the stable cetrimonium bromide-modified MoO 3 (CTAB-modified MoO 3 ) precursor solution . The effect of thermal treatment on the optical, crystalline, morphologic properties and surface wettability is greatly obvious because of the pyrolytic decomposition of CTAB. The highly efficient and stable polymer solar cells (PSCs) have been also fabricated by adopting CTAB-modified MoO 3 nanocomposite films as the novel and universal anode buffer layers (ABLs). The P3HT:ICBA based solar cells with CTAB-modified MoO 3 at 200   °C heat treatment exhibit an best power conversion efficiency (PCE) of 5.80% with long-term stability, and the PTB7:PC 71 BM based solar cells with CTAB-modified MoO 3 at 200   °C heat treatment show an best PCE of 8.34% with long-term stability, which are higher than that of the corresponding devices with PEDOT:PSS films. The improvement in device performance is mainly due to the agreeable electrical properties and enhanced charge extraction of the CTAB-modified MoO 3 ABLs, and CTAB modification to the MoO 3 surface can effectively passivate its surface traps, suppress the recombination loss of carriers. The surface of CTAB-modified MoO 3 films is also more hydrophobic than that of the PEDOT:PSS. In a word, these indicate the CTAB-modified MoO 3 films may be used as a novel and generally applicable hole transport layer for high-efficiency and ambient stable polymer solar cells.

Ag+-Gated Surface Chemistry of Gold Nanoparticles and Colorimetric Detection of Acetylcholinesterase

Jiangjiang Zhang,Wenshu Zheng,Xingyu Jiang

Chemical regulation of enzyme-mimic activity of nanomaterials is challenging because it requires a precise understanding of the surface chemistry and mechanism, and rationally designed applications. Herein, Ag + -gated peroxidase activity is demonstrated by successfully modulating surface chemistry of cetyltrimethylammonium bromide-capped gold nanoparticles (CTAB-AuNPs). A surface blocking effect of long-chain molecules on surfaces of AuNPs that inhibit peroxidase activity of AuNPs is found. Ag + ions can selectively bind on the surfaces of AuNPs and competitively destroy CTAB membrane forming Ag + @CTAB-AuNPs complexes to result in enhanced peroxidase activity. Ag + @CTAB-AuNPs show the highest peroxidase activity compared to similar-sized citrate-capped and ascorbic acid-capped AuNPs. Ag + @CTAB-AuNPs can potentially develop into analyte-responsive systems and exhibit advantages in the optical sensing field. For example, the Ag + @CTAB-AuNPs system shows an enhanced sensitivity and selectivity for acetylcholinesterase activity sensing compared to other methods.

Adjuvant activities of CTAB-modified Polygonatum sibiricum polysaccharide cubosomes on immune responses to ovalbumin in mice

Zhenguang Liu,Haiyu Ni,Lin Yu,Shuwen Xu,Ruonan Bo,Tianxin Qiu,Pengfei Gu,TianYu Zhu,Jin He,Adelijiang Wusiman,Shaowu Zhu,Jiaguo Liu,Yuanliang Hu,Deyun Wang

Recently, the cubosomes have been widely studied as drug carriers. It has been described that cubosomes could further stimulate the immune response after carrying the immune enhancer. Polygonatum sibiricum polysaccharide (PSP), one of the most important biologically active ingredients of Polygonatum sibiricum , has been reported as an immunostimulant to improve immune responses. This study was aimed to observe the immunomodulation effects of ovalbumin (OVA) absorbed cetyltrimethylammonium bromide-modified Polygonatum sibiricum polysaccharide cubosomes (CTAB-modified PSP-Cubs/OVA). Firstly, the antigen uptake of CTAB-modified PSP-Cubs/OVA by macrophages was determined in vitro. After that, mice were immunized with CTAB-modified PSP-Cubs/OVA. The activation of dendritic cells in lymph nodes, activation of lymphocyte, ratios of CD4 + to CD8 + , the concentrations of OVA-specific IgG in serum and the cytokines concentrations were analyzed. As the results showed, CTAB-modified PSP-Cubs/OVA could promote the production of OVA-specific IgG in serum. The ratio of CD4 + to CD8 + in CTAB-modified PSP-Cubs/OVA group was significantly increased compared with other groups. CTAB-modified PSP-Cubs/OVA could significantly activate dendritic cells and promote lymphocyte proliferation. The results indicated that CTAB-modified PSP-Cubs/OVA could promote the secretion of related cytokines and the proliferation of lymphocytes, stimulate the cellular immune response and increase the level of humoral immunity. Above all, CTAB-modified PSP-Cubs had good adjuvant activity.

Optimization of preparation conditions for CTAB-modified Polygonatum sibiricum polysaccharide cubosomes using the response surface methodology and their effects on splenic lymphocytes

Haiyu Ni,Shuwen Xu,Pengfei Gu,Adelijiang wusiman,Yue Zhang,Tianxin Qiu,Zhenguang Liu,Han Ni,Yuanliang Hu,Jiaguo Liu,Yi Wu,Deyun Wang

This study aimed to optimize the preparation conditions for cetyltrimethylammonium bromide-modified Polygonatum sibiricum polysaccharide cubosomes (CTAB-modified PSP-Cubs) by response surface methodology (RSM). Glyceryl-monooleate (GMO) was used as the lipid base for the cubosomes. The optimal preparation conditions of CTAB-modified PSP-Cubs were as follows: the mass percentage of PSP to GMO (X 1 ), Poloxamer 407 (F127) to GMO (X 2 ) and water to GMO (X 3 ) was 1.4%, 9% and 50%, respectively. The encapsulation efficiency (EE) of CTAB-modified PSP-Cubs under the experimental conditions was 62.4 ± 3.6%, which was close to our predicted value. The particle size, polydispersity index (PDI) and zeta potential of CTAB-modified PSP-Cubs were 427.7 ± 8.0  nm , 0.236 ± 0.024 and 19.2 ± 0.4 mV, respectively. Specific modifications were able to slow down in vitro release behaviors and reduce cytotoxicity to some extent. The effects of CTAB-modified PSP-Cubs on splenic lymphocytes were also investigated. When splenic lymphocytes were treated with CTAB-modified PSP-Cubs together with LPS or PHA , the results showed more favorable effects on cellular proliferation than blank cubosomes or free PSP at certain concentrations.
