Synthesis and luminescence properties of CaSnO3:Bi3+ blue phosphor and the emission improvement by Li+ ion

Renping Cao,Jinlong Zhang,Wudi Wang,Qianglin Hu,Wensheng Li,Wen Ruan,Hui Ao

CaSnO 3 :Bi 3+ blue-emitting phosphor was synthesized using a high-temperature solid-state reaction method in air. The crystal structures and luminescence properties were investigated. A broad emission band peaking at ~448 nm upon excitation at 262 and 308 nm was observed in the range 330–680 nm at room temperature due to 3 P 1 → 1 S 0 transition of the Bi 3+ ion. The chromaticity coordinate was (0.1786, 0.1665). The optimal Bi 3+ ion concentration was ~0.6 mol% in CaSnO 3 :Bi 3+ phosphor. The emission spectrum of CaSnO 3 :Bi 3+ phosphor showed a blue-shift with increasing temperature from 50 to 300 K due to the influence of temperature on the electron transition of the Bi 3+ ion. The emission intensity of CaSnO 3 :Bi 3+ phosphor may be increased ~1.45 times by co-doping Li + ions as a charge compensator and fluxing agent. The luminescence mechanism is explained by a configurational coordinate diagram of Bi 3+ ion in CaSnO 3 :Bi 3+ phosphor.

Enhanced performance of medium-temperature solid oxide fuel cells using CaSnO3-ZnO heterostructure as electrolyte

Xinyu Feng,Hanzhen Liu,Zhenhang Lu,Xuanyu Lin,Xin Tang

The advancement of novel heterostructure electrolytes and the enhancement of solid oxide fuel cell (SOFC) performance represent a promising strategy for developing medium-temperature SOFCs. This study focuses on synthesizing CaSnO 3 via the sol-gel technique and fabricating CaSnO 3 -ZnO composites to serve as electrolytes for medium-temperature SOFCs. At 550 °C, the 2Ca 8Zn composite demonstrated an ionic conductivity of 0.204 S cm −1 , a peak power density of 700 mW cm −2 , and intermittent durability lasting up to 24 h under identical thermal conditions. Upon further investigation of the energy band structure, it has been revealed that CaSnO 3 -ZnO composites are promising candidates for serving as electrolytes in medium-temperature SOFCs. The findings indicate that the combination of calcium and zinc oxides can form n-n heterojunctions within the material, which enhance ionic conductivity by creating space charge regions, while simultaneously suppressing electronic conductivity. Consequently, CaSnO 3 -ZnO nanocomposites are anticipated to pave the way for advancements in intermediate-temperature solid oxide fuel cells.

CaSnO3:Tb3+ nanofibers with blue/green emission and CaSnO3:Tb3+/Eu3+nanofibers with white-light emission and multi-color luminescence assist photon barcode via energy transfer

Xue Teng,Ning Li,Xiaohan Liu,Xintong Huo,Hong Shao,Yanke Xi,Jiacheng Mi,Dan Li,Guixia Liu,Xiangting Dong

It is crucial to develop color-tunable fluorescent materials with single-matrix. In this study, Electrospinning coupled with oxidative sintering is employed to successfully fabricate CaSnO 3 (CSO):RE 3+ (RE = Tb, Tb/Eu) one-dimensional nanofibers (NFs). To achieve multi-color luminescence and white-light emission in a single matrix, Eu 3+ ions are introduced into CSO:Tb 3+ 1D NFs to gain CSO:Tb 3+ /Eu 3+ 1D NFs. In the CSO:Tb 3+ /Eu 3+ NFs, Tb 3+ ions play a dual role as both luminescent center and sensitizer by virtue of energy level matching engineering. By adjusting the excitation wavelength and doping concentration of Tb 3+ and Eu 3+ ions, the luminescence color of CSO:RE 3+ (RE = Tb, Tb/Eu) NFs can be regulated, achieving multi-color luminescence from blue to blue-green, green, white, and red. Meanwhile, multiple emission peaks in the emission spectra of the CSO:RE 3+ (RE = Tb, Tb/Eu) enable high information storage and anti-counterfeiting capacity.

Pressure-Induced Phase Transition and Structural Evolution of Single-Crystal CaSnO3 Perovskite

Xue Zhang,Xinyang Li,Ling Chen,Mengqiong Pu,Jinxiao Li,Xiaohan Wang,Liang Li,Fangfei Li,Qiang Zhou

Abstract Calcium stannate (CaSnO3) is a widely used analogue of bridgmanite (MgSiO3), capable of undergoing a pressure-induced perovskite-to-postperovskite phase transition under accessible experimental conditions. In this study, high-quality single-crystal CaSnO3 perovskite was synthesized by solid-state reaction. Its structural behavior at pressures up to 50.0 GPa was investigated using diamond-anvil cells combined with in situ synchrotron X-ray diffraction, Raman spectroscopy, and first-principles calculations. X-ray diffraction analysis identifies the onset of the phase transition at 17.1 GPa, while Raman spectroscopy provides complementary evidence through the emergence of a new vibrational mode at 18.3 GPa. Furthermore, theoretical calculations confirmed the thermodynamic stability of the postperovskite phase above 17.0 GPa, corroborating the experimental findings. Due to its comparable axial ratio and more readily achievable pressure–temperature conditions relative to MgSiO3, CaSnO3 serves as an excellent low-pressure analogue for elucidating the properties and dynamics of the deep Earth’s interior.

Low-energy visible light excitable Bi2+-activated near-infrared persistent phosphors for information encryption application

Jingwei Liu,Yanjie Liang,Shao Yan,Dongxun Chen,Shihai Miao,Fei Xie,Weili Wang

Near-infrared (NIR, 700–900 nm) emissive persistent phosphors have been given substantial attention in the past decade due to their bright future for many advanced applications from night vision surveillance to biomedical imaging. Here, we report the intense NIR persistent luminescence from a series of Bi 2+ -activated persistent luminescence materials achieved by the cation disorder strategy in CaSnO 3 host. Taking Ca 0 . 95 (Na,Gd) 0.025 SnO 3 :Bi 2+ as an example, it exhibits long-lasting NIR afterglow with a peak maximum at 805 nm assigned to the 2 P 3/2 (1)→ 2 P 1/2 transition of Bi 2+ and a long persistence time of more than 24 h after the ceasing of external excitation. More importantly, NIR self-sustained luminescence can be triggered by wideband irradiation with ultraviolet to visible light over 230–550 nm. As expected, 365 nm UV lamp, natural sunlight and LED flash can all effectively charge these NIR persistent phosphors and induce commendable NIR persistent luminescence performance. Considering the invisibility of NIR emission to the naked eye, very broad persistent luminescence excitation band, and long-lasting NIR luminescence after excitation, these Bi 2+ -activated NIR persistent phosphors are expected to find important applications in optical information storage and anti-counterfeiting fields.

Supercritical CO2-modulated phase transition in CaSnO3 from orthorhombic to cubic symmetry for room-temperature ferromagnetism

Lei Xu,Qun Xu,Buxing Han

The advancement of nanotechnology has enabled magnetic nanomaterials to exhibit remarkable potential and application value in medicine, transportation, information storage, and spintronics owing to their unique physicochemical properties. In this study, supercritical carbon dioxide (SC CO2) was used to successfully induce room-temperature ferromagnetism in CaSnO3 without magnetic element doping, achieving a maximum saturation magnetization of 0.0727 emu g−1 at 16 MPa. The SC CO2 treatment introduced lattice-scale defects, releasing residual force within distorted SnO6 octahedra, which led to the suppression of structural distortion and drove a structural phase transition from orthorhombic to cubic. Additionally, the enhanced symmetry was accompanied by anisotropic lattice expansion and tensile strain, which thermodynamically lowered the oxygen vacancy formation energy, thereby kinetically driving the creation of more defects. This disrupted the intrinsic antiferromagnetic order and significantly enhanced ferromagnetism. This work elucidates a defect-strain synergy mechanism for tuning material magnetic order, distinguishing it from conventional stoichiometric doping strategies and highlighting the critical role of SC CO2 in material modification.

Enhancing Catalytic Efficiency in Long-Chain Linear α-Olefin Epoxidation: A Study of CaSnO3-Based Catalysts

Min Zhang,Hongwei Xiang,Xiaodong Wen

This investigation explores the synthesis of advanced catalysts for epoxidizing long-chain linear α-olefins, a pivotal process in the chemical industry for generating critical intermediates. Employing a hydrothermal technique, we developed four distinct catalysts (CS-1–4), methodically modulating the Ca/Sn ratio to elucidate its impact on the catalysts’ physicochemical properties. Our research uncovered that an escalated Ca/Sn ratio induces a morphological shift from octagonal to cubic structures, concomitant with a diminution in particle size and an enhancement in specific surface area. Significantly, the CS-3 catalyst outperformed others in 1-octene epoxidation, an efficacy attributed to its augmented surface alkalinity and proliferation of medium-strength alkaline sites, likely emanating from increased surface oxygen defects. Subsequent hydrogen reduction of CS-3 further amplified these oxygen defects, yielding a 10% uptick in catalytic activity. This correlation underscores the potential of oxygen defect manipulation in optimizing catalytic efficiency. Our findings contribute a novel perspective to the development of robust, high-performance catalysts for α-olefin epoxidation, seamlessly aligning with the principles of sustainable chemistry.Keywords:long-chain linear alpha-olefin;perovskite oxide;CaSnO3;oxygen vacancy;epoxidation

Enhancing the near-infrared photoluminescence and persistent luminescence properties of CaSnO3:Bi through modulating bismuth ion valence states via Mg²⁺ interstitial codoping

Jiarao Shi,Xincui Shi,Ran Pang,Su Zhang

In this work, a series of near-infrared persistent luminescent phosphors CaSnO 3 :Bi,xMg 2 + were prepared via Mg 2+ co-doping, and the effects of Mg²⁺ doping on the structure, luminescence properties, Bi valence state, and defects of the phosphors were systematically studied. The results show that at low doping concentrations, Mg²⁺ primarily enters the CaSnO 3 lattice in an interstitial manner, leading to lattice expansion. The interstitial incorporation of Mg²⁺ introduces positive charges, which promotes the reduction of Bi³ ⁺ to Bi²⁺, thereby increasing the concentration of Bi²⁺ and enhancing the near-infrared photoluminescence efficiency of the phosphors. Moreover, Mg²⁺ codoping modified the defect distribution in the phosphor, which further enhances the near-infrared persistent luminescence intensity. Under the optimal Mg 2+ doping concentration, the photoluminescence intensity of the phosphor increased by 0.8 times, and the initial persistent luminescence brightness improved by 6.3 times compared to the Bi singly-doped sample. This study not only provides a new near-infrared persistent luminescent phosphor but also offers a novel strategy for regulating the valence state of Bi ions through interstitial codoping to prepare Bi 2+ -based near-infrared persistent phosphors.
