In this paper, a simple, rapid, and low-cost colorimetric method was designed based on Co/Fe-MOFs-iodide composite for the quantitative detection of H 2 S. It is know that iodide can improve the catalytic activity of bimetallic porous material Co/Fe-MOFs via adsorption into the framework of MOFs. Herein, we demonstrate a novel strategy to enhance the peroxidase-like activity of MOFs. Compared to horseradish peroxidase (HRP), the kinetic measurement results show that Co/Fe-MOFs-iodide exhibits excellent affinity to substrates, promoting electron transfer. Due to the synergetic effect of Co/Fe-MOFs and iodide, and rapid electron transfer process, Co/Fe-MOFs-iodide demonstrates improved peroxidase-like activity. As a proof-of-concept application, a novel, highly sensitive H 2 S colorimetric method is established with a detection limit (LOD) of 0.33 nM. In the absence of iodide, LOD is approx. 200-fold higher than that of the amplified colorimetric assay. The proposed method can also accurately detect traces of H 2 S in serum samples.

Abstract In this work, the synthesis of Co–Fe–Se ultrathin nanosheet-fabricated microspheres was reported for the first time as electrocatalysts toward hydrogen evolution reaction (HER). The Co–Fe–Se ternary compounds exhibited high electrocatalytic activity of HER with low onset potential in acid media due to the high specific surface area of Co–Fe–Se ultrathin nanosheet-fabricated microspheres. The presence of multiwall carbon nanotubes improved the immobilization effect of Co–Fe–Se catalysts and electron transfer between catalysts and electrode surface, leading to the improved stability and HER electrocatalysis. The non-noble metal-based ternary compounds of Co–Fe–Se obtained from earth-abundant elements may enlighten a new way of exploring cost-effective catalysts for HER to develop hydrogen energy. Summary. Electrochemical water decomposition as a crucial approach for the gradual growth of renewable energy has attracted extensive attention. Metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) which benefit from ultra-high specific surface area, controllable nanostructures, and excellent porosity have been widely used as high activity catalyst for the decomposition of water by electrochemical means. Herein, the composition and morphology of metal–organic framework nanoclusters with bimetallic Co/Fe-incorporated PTA/FDA nanoclusters is designed for efficient and durable OER electrocatalysts, including CoFe-BTC/PTA, CoFe-BTC/FDA, and CoFe-PTA/FDA. The crystal structure of MOF materials is composed of alternating organic hydrocarbon BTC, PTA, or FDA and inorganic metal oxide layer. Co and Fe interact as central atoms, joining BTC, PTA, or FDA ligands to form a highly symmetric MOF structure. The electronic structures and active sites of various metals are different, and the insertion of iron atoms plays a certain role in the regulation of their electronic structures. CoFe-PTA/FDA shows significant OER overpotential (1.525 V vs. RHE) reached 10 mA cm-2, with 62.85 mV dec-1 for Tafel slope and pretty conspicuous stability (72 hours of continuous testing). The DFT calculation results show coordination unsaturated metal atom is the primary active center of these electrocatalytic reaction, and the coupling effect caused by adding Fe is the key to adjust the electrocatalytic activity.

The extraction of Fe(III), Ni(II) and Co(II) from a Ni(II)-Co(II) solution containing Fe(III) was analyzed in a chloride medium using a mixed extractant consisting of 50% ( v /v) tributyl phosphate (TBP), 20% (v/v) 2-octanol and 30% (v/v) kerosene. The extraction of 0.5 mol/L Fe(III) in 4 mol/L hydrochloric acid reached 97%, and the consumption of chloride ions was investigated. Nickel(II) ions were not detectably extracted by TBP, with an inclusion of <1.1%. Compared with Fe(III), TBP extracted only a small amount of Co(II). The iron complexes formed by TBP and 2-octanol were [H 2 FeCl 4 · 2TBP] and [H 2 FeCl 4 · 5(2-octanol)], and the possible compositions of Co-containing extracts were [H 2 CoCl 4 · 2TBP] and [H 2 CoCl 4 ] · n[2-octanol]. An industrial process consisting of two-step extraction was designed to achieve the separation of Co(II) and Fe(III), resulting in a decrease in the Fe/Co mass ratio from 0.46 to <3.5 × 10 −4 in the raffinate.

The surface acidity and structure of catalysts play crucial roles in cinnamaldehyde (CAL) selective hydrogenation to manufacture cinnamyl alcohol (COL). Herein, a Co–Fe-supported acidified bentonite catalyst (Co–Fe/ACBT) was prepared via sulfuric acid treatment of bentonite (BT) and the traditional impregnation method. The combination study, including FT-IR spectra of adsorbed pyridine and ammonia temperature-programmed desorption (NH3-TPD), showed that Co–Fe/ACBT has vast acidic sites mainly originating from surface unsaturated metal sites of ACBT, which prefer to adsorb polar >CO but not nonpolar >CC<. X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) verified that the effect of electron transfer was significantly enhanced when the active metal was loaded on ACBT, leading to an increase in the electron cloud density of the Co species, which promoted the activation of >CO. Due to the modified electronic properties of Co species and abundant acidic sites, Co–Fe/ACBT exhibited a 90.5% conversion and 86.8% hydrogenation selectivity from CAL to COL, which are notably greater than those of the Co–Fe-supported bentonite catalyst (32.0% CAL conversion and 66.4% COL selectivity).

Lactate-intercalated Co–Fe layered double hydroxides (LDHs) were successfully prepared by coprecipitation and hydrothermal method. In this process, divalent metal ions as precursors can be obtained from the reduction reaction of lactic acid and metal powder (cobalt and ferrous). In order to obtain Fe 3+ , H 2 O 2 (30%) was used to oxidize Fe 2+ . Meanwhile, the produced lactate was intercalated into the LDHs interlayers to compensate the positively charged layers. The as-synthesized LDHs were studied by element chemical analysis, powder X-ray diffraction (XRD), FT-IR spectroscopy, thermogravitry (TG) and differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), TEM. The results indicated that the basal spacing value of the LDHs was larger than that of lactate-intercalated Mg–Al or Zn–Al LDHs. It proved that the lactate anions were inserted into the gallery in the form of dimers which made it easy to be delaminated in water. The obtained nanosheets were deposited on the substrates to form the film which was characterized by TEM and AFM, and infrared emissivity value (8–14 μm) was also investigated. The infrared emissivity values of Co–Fe LDHs were lower than that of Zn–Al which took advantage of the special electronic structure in Co and Fe. Besides, the orderly structure and the reduction of the interfacial deficiency of the film made the values further reduced.

In this study, a series of high-efficient catalyst, Co–Fe/Al 2 O 3 , were synthesized via the sol-gel method for low-temperature phenol steam reforming (PSR). The optimized catalyst, 15Co–2Fe/Al 2 O 3 , exhibited a remarkable phenol conversion of 95.3%, a H 2 yield of 92.1% at 450 °C, GHSV = 7500 h −1 and a steam-to-carbon (S/C) ratio of 10. Furthermore, the catalyst activity was maintained for 660 min before a gradual decline was observed. The NH 3 -TPD analysis revealed that the addition of Fe enhanced the surface acidity of the catalyst, providing more active sites for phenol adsorption and activation. This study aims to address the challenges associated with high reaction temperatures and poor catalyst stability in PSR. Various characterization techniques have been employed to investigate the reaction mechanisms of bimetallic catalysts in low-temperature PSR.

The novel Ni-Si intermetallic compounds are fabricated by elemental powder metallurgy. This study explores the synthesis of a series of catalysts (Ni-Si-M, M=Co, Fe, Mn) by alloying to augment the low-temperature efficiency of CO oxidation using Ni-Si intermetallic compounds. It is found the low-temperature catalytic activity of Ni-Si-Co, Ni-Si-Fe, and Ni-Si-Mn catalysts are significantly enhanced compared to the original Ni-Si. The catalytic activity among the catalysts ranks as follows: Ni-Si-Co > Ni-Si-Fe > Ni-Si-Mn > Ni-Si. The apparent activation energy (Ea) for Ni-Si-Co was the lowest at 57.3 kJ/mol, suggesting its efficient catalytic oxidation of CO. Additionally, the addition of Co, Fe and Mn elements actually promotes the generation of Ni 2+ as the CO adsorption site in the original Ni-Si. The addition of Co element also leads to the formation of Co 2+ as the adsorption site of O 2 in the process of CO oxidation reaction. The synergistic adsorption of Ni 2+ and Co 2+ to CO and O 2 promotes the CO oxidation reaction. Additionally, the catalysts demonstrate robust long-term stability in atmospheres containing H 2 O and SO 2 , with CO conversion initially suppressed but subsequently recovering and stabilizing at over 90%. This investigation offers novel insights into enhancing the low-temperature activity and stability of catalysts.

A self-assembly strategy was presented for the synthesis of highly dispersed Co/Fe bimetallic carbon cages (CoFe50@C) through thermal morphology-controlled transformation of Fe doping dual metal-organic frameworks (MOFs). Taking advantage of the well dispersibility, synergetic effects between Fe and Co species, and enhanced graphitization degree of carbon, CoFe50@C exhibited a high removal efficiency of 98% in 180 min for sulfamethoxazole (SMX). The synergistic effect between Co and Fe species played an important role in promoting the reduction of Co(III) to Co(II) and the adsorption of H 2 O 2 molecules, thus enhancing the generation of hydroxyl radicals (HO•), which had been demonstrated by density functional theory (DFT) calculations. Meanwhile, the graphitized carbon cages could prevent the loss of bimetallic active component and promote the electron transfer during catalytic reaction . This work provides a new type of highly dispersed Co/Fe bimetal carbon cages as heterogeneous Fenton nanocatalyst for the degradation of organic contaminants.

The co-deposition behavior of Co +2 and Fe +2 in ethylene glycol (EG) are investigated using cyclic voltammetry (CV) techniques. These results imply that Co +2 species can accelerate the Co-Fe co-deposition, while Fe +2 can inhibit the reduction of Co +2 . Moreover, the two effects can be improved as Co +2 or Fe +2 concentration increases. Microstructural and compositional characteristics of the samples show that Co-Fe deposits with various Fe content can be obtained from anhydrous FeCl 2 and CoCl 2 in EG. Scanning electron microscopy imaging of the surfaces of these Co-Fe alloy coatings shows that they present a dense structure with spherical “nodules”, the size of which is related to the Fe content. The electrocatalytic activity for hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) on the Co-Fe coatings is also investigated. These results indicate that its electrocatalytic activity can be improved as Fe contents increase from 2.2 to 9.8 wt.% and the Co-Fe alloy with 9.8 wt.% Fe exhibits the high electrocatalytic activity for HER with an overpotential of 124 mV at 10 mA cm −2 in 1 M KOH.

Based on the strong capability of transition metal ions for peroxymonosulfate (PMS) activation and highly affinity of MoS 2 towards PMS, thus decorating MoS 2 with transition metal ions would efficiently activate PMS for degradation of organic pollutants. In this work, Co/Fe co-doped MoS 2 catalyst were synthesized by simple chemical method. The prepared Co/Fe co-doped MoS 2 catalyst displayed excellent catalytic activity for organic pollutant degradation. The removal efficiency of RhB and MB is 99% in 6 min and 98% in 15 min under PMS system, respectively. Both the capture experiment and EPR results verified that 1 O 2 played an important role in the organic pollutant degradation process in PMS system. The catalytic mechanism revealed that the synergistic effect between Mo ion and Co/Fe ions is beneficial for boosting the catalytic properties of Co/Fe co-doped MoS 2 catalyst. The cycle experiments confirmed that Co/Fe co-doped MoS 2 possesses excellent chemical stability and re-usability.

Advanced oxidation processes activated by transition metal have attracted much attention for their excellent performance in the removal of organic pollutants , but the development of efficient and environmentally benign catalysts is still a significant challenge. In this work, carbon shell encapsulating Co/Fe sulfide nanoparticles (Co/Fe@SC X ) were synthesized by pyrolysis of the resorcinol-formaldehyde (RF) coated MIL-101 @ZIF-67 bimetal Metal-organic frameworks (MOFs). In the degradation of TCP , Co/Fe@SC 600 exhibited the highest TCP removal rate (97.33%) and reaction rate constant (k obs ) (0.169 min −1 ), as well as the mineralization rate of up to 60.19%. Compared to other prepared catalysts, Co/Fe@SC 600 not only possessed excellent catalytic activity, but also exhibited the lowest Co ion leaching concentration, good stability and high resistance to environmental factors. Further studies showed that the non-radical pathway dominated by 1 O 2 contributed most to the TCP degradation, and the radicals also played the indispensable role. The potential TCP degradation pathways in the reaction system was also investigated by analyzing the intermediate products during the degradation process. Overall, this study may provide some interesting insights into the design of advanced catalysts.
