The development of industrial application of water splitting demands simple and effective methods for the preparation of highly efficient electrocatalysts that are inexpensive and robust. Herein, we report a simple activation method to decorate 3D cobalt iron oxyhydroxide (CoFe-OOH) nanosheets on Co 2 P nanoparticles with Ni foams (NF) as substrates. The synthesized catalysts exhibit excellent activity for electrochemical oxygen evolution reaction due to the hierarchical heterostructures and synergistic effects of CoFe-OOH and Co 2 P. The as-prepared catalysts require a low overpotential of 199 mV to deliver 30 mA cm −2 in oxygen evolution reaction in 1 M KOH with a small Tafel slope of 39 mV dec −1 , indicating favorable kinetics during electrolysis. The synthesized catalysts are further used as cathode and anode for overall water splitting, which only requires a cell voltage of 1.60 V at a current density of 30 mA cm −2 . This work provides new insights on the preparation of efficient electrocatalysts for overall water splitting, which may have the potentials for industrial water electrolysis.
Formic acid (FA) is widely regarded as a hydrogen storage material with great application potential, so finding a suitable and effective catalyst for FA dehydrogenation to generate pure hydrogen under mild conditions is critical for practical applications. Herein, we converted poplar catkin (PC) with microtube structure into N-doped carbon microsheets (NPC) through carbonization, ultrasonic crushing and modification processes , and further immobilized fine Pd and Co 2 P nanoparticles on NPC microsheets to form a novel ternary catalyst of Pd-Co 2 P/NPC . The Pd-Co 2 P/NPC catalysts have excellent catalytic performance for dehydrogenation of FA under mild conditions, with a high selectivity of 100%, high initial turnover frequency value (TOF) of 2980 h −1 at 50 °C and maintained 1530 h −1 even at 30 °C. The catalyst could be recycled consecutively up to seven times without remarkable change in the catalytic activity. The significantly improved performances of Pd-Co 2 P/NPC can be attributed to high dispersity of Pd-Co 2 P nanoparticles and synergetic effect between different components. These results suggest that the biomass-based NPC microsheets may be a promising low-cost supports for the manufacturing various highly efficient nanocatalyts.

Constructing economical and efficient electrocatalysts for oxygen reduction reaction (ORR) is very important to develop clean energy technologies, such as fuel cells and metal-air batteries . In this work, the Fe 2 P-Co 2 P embedded in N-doped biomass-based carbon and carbon nanotube hybrid (Fe 2 P-Co 2 P/NC B -CNT) with plenty of interfacial structure was successfully fabricated using a green strategy. The satisfactory surface area, hierarchical porous structure, and the synergistic effect between Fe 2 P-Co 2 P nanoparticles and nitrogen-doped carbon composite substrate make the Fe 2 P-Co 2 P/NC B -CNT exhibiting excellent catalytic activity and stability for ORR.
