A series of CoFe-LDHs@MoS 2 -x (x = 0.1, 0.2 and 0.5) samples were successfully synthesized to activate peroxymonosulfate (PMS) for tetracycline (TC) removal. With the introduction of MoS 2 could promote the catalytic performance via accelerating the Fe 2+ /Fe 3+ and Co 2+ /Co 3+ cycle. About 98.8 % of TC could be removed over 12 min under a neutral condition in the CoFe-LDHs@MoS 2 -0.2/PMS system, which was 4.4 times higher than that of CoFe-LDHs/PMS system. The main reactive oxygen species (ROS) in CoFe-LDHs@MoS 2 -0.2/PMS system were also explored by using quenching and free radical capture experiments. The singlet oxygen ( 1 O 2 ) played a major role for the TC removal. Besides, the decomposition pathways of TC were deduced by UPLC-QTOF/MS, and the stability of catalysts had also been studied. This work provided theoretical and experimental basis for designing and preparation more effective heterogeneous catalysts for PMS activation .

Antibiotic contamination has a significant negative impact on China, one of the largest producers and consumers of antibiotics worldwide. In this study, a three-dimensional flower-like structure of CoFe-LDHs was used to efficiently degrade tetracycline (TC) in a system triggered by peroxymonosulfate (PMS) and exposed to visible light. After exploring the effects of different metal ratios, catalyst dosage, initial TC concentrations, and pH, the optimal reaction conditions were determined. In comparison to pure CoFe-LDHs, the TC elimination rate was dramatically increased by the addition of the PMS. The strong environmental resistance, excellent stability and reusability, and universal flexibility were shown. The quenching experiments and electron spin resonance detection showed that the creation of reactive oxygen species was facilitated by the synergistic transmission of electrons between the active bimetallic components. Further, photogenerated holes was the dominant oxidizing species, which contributed more to the degradation of TC. The potential degradation pathways and intermediate toxicity of TC were suggested. This work offers a new method dominated by photogenerated holes for efficiently removing TC effluent.

The utilization of the photo catalytic activation of permonosulfate (PMS) for the combined breakdown of pollutants has become a focal point in research. Layered double hydroxides (LDHs) have a unique layered structure which is conducive to the adsorption and diffusion of reactants, and can provide more active sites for photocatalytic reactions. The anions between the layers can be exchanged with a variety of substances so that specific catalytically active species can be introduced as needed. LDHs themselves have certain catalytic activity, which can produce synergistic catalysis between LDHs and the supported photocatalytic active substances, and further improve the degradation effect of antibiotics. In actual wastewater treatment, LDHs as a catalyst carrier have a good application prospect. However, the poor activation effect is attributed to the low separation efficiency of catalyst carriers and insufficient active sites. In this study, a dual active site system consisting of Co and Fe, known as CoFe-LDHs@MoS2, was developed as a catalyst to facilitate the synergistic degradation of norfloxacin (NOF) by PMS under visible light. The findings demonstrate that the material possesses an effective capacity for the synergistic degradation of NOF. A comprehensive investigation was conducted to assess the impact of different catalysts, PMS dosage, degradation systems (Vis, PMS, or Vis PMS), catalyst dosage, NOF concentration, pH, and cycle times on the degradation performance. The active free radicals, degradation pathways, and intermediate toxicity were elucidated through capture experiments, Electron Paramagnetic Resonance Spectrometer (ESR) analysis, a liquid mass spectrometry (LC-MS) toxicity assessment, and theoretical calculations. This research offers a novel approach for designing catalysts with exposed high activity sites for the effective removal of NOF from environmental water.

In this study, 3D flower-like magnetic CoFe-LDHs/CoFe 2 O 4 was prepared by a facile urea hydrothermal method and utilized to activate peroxymonosulfate (PMS) for degrading aniline (AN). CoFe-LDHs/CoFe 2 O 4 was systematically characterized to explore the relationship between its structure and catalytic performance. Compared with CoFe-LDHs synthesized by co-precipitation method, CoFe-LDHs/CoFe 2 O 4 exhibited three dimensional structure and larger specific surface, which could increase the degradation efficiency of AN markedly. 96% of 10 mg L −1 AN could be eliminated by 0.3 mM PMS and 50 mg L −1 CoFe-LDHs/CoFe 2 O 4 at initial pH 6 within 5 min and the total organic carbon (TOC) removal efficiency could be high to 52.8% in 30 min. CoFe-LDHs/CoFe 2 O 4 can be separated by a magnet easily due to its magnetism, which makes it avoid secondary pollution and provide convenience. After recycling six times, the degradation efficiency still maintained at 92.6%. Besides, CoFe-LDHs/CoFe 2 O 4 /PMS can degrade AN in practical water samples effectively. In addition, the possible mechanism of CoFe-LDHs/CoFe 2 O 4 /PMS system for the degradation of AN was proposed. The radical scavenging experiments confirmed that SO 4 · - , HO· and O 2 · - were involved and SO 4 · - played a dominant role in the degradation of AN, and it was further proved by electron Paramagnetic Resonance (EPR) as well. Our findings can provide some new insights into the efficient and skillful design and application of heterogeneous catalyst for environmental remediation.

Graphical NH 4 + storage : Structural reconstructed cobalt-iron layered double hydroxides featuring copious structure defects are reported as a high-capacity cathode for NH 4 + storage. The resulting sample can not only deliver a large reversible capacity but also act as the cathode for construction of ammonium-ion hybrid supercapacitors. Exploration of high-performance aqueous ammonium-ions hybrid supercapacitor has attracted tremendous research attention recently. Herein, structural reconstructed cobalt-iron layered double hydroxides (SR-CoFe LDHs) featuring copious structure defects (i. e., oxygen-vacancies, M−O bonds, MOO − bonds, coexistence of Co 2+ /Co 3+ and Fe 2+ /Fe 3+ ) are reported as a high-capacity cathode for NH 4 + storage. The resulting SR-CoFe LDHs can deliver a reversible capacity of 167.9 mAh g −1 at 0.5 A g −1 , which is 3.3 folds higher than that of pristine CoFe-LDHs. Ex-situ experimental results and theoretical studies denote that the presence of structural defects in the CoFe-LDHs can lower the NH 4 + adsorption energy and induced electron delocalization to enhance the electrical conductivity, rendering the CoFe-LDHs exhibits excellent performance for NH 4 + storage. As a proof of concept, ammonium-ion hybrid supercapacitor has been assembled with CoFe-LDHs as the cathode and hierarchical carbon as the anode, which can deliver a large specific capacitance of 238.3 F g −1 , long cycle stability over 10000 cycles, and high energy density of 66.2 Wh kg −1 within a wide working voltage of 2 V. Overall, this work offers some insights into the design of high capacity cathode for aqueous NH 4 + storage and also illustrates the construction of aqueous hybrid devices with NH 4 + as the charge carrier.

Currently, reactive oxygen species (ROS)-induced apoptosis systems have drawn increasing attention in cancer therapy, owing to their specific tumor inhibition ability and great biocompatibility. Herein, we developed a highly dispersed nano-enzyme based on the assembly of natural glucose oxidase (GOD) onto CoFe-layered double hydroxides (CoFe-LDHs) monolayer nanosheets . By virtue of the high dispersion of Fe 3+ within the host layer, the CoFe-LDHs nanosheets exhibit a collaborative enhanced Fenton catalytic activity with a rate constant of 3.26 × 10 −4 s −1 , which is 1–3 orders of magnitude higher than other iron-containing Fenton reaction agents. Subsequently, with a massive H 2 O 2 triggered by GOD, GOD/CoFe-LDHs nanohybrid converts a cascade of glucose into hydroxyl radicals under tumor acid conditions, which is validated by a high maximum velocity ( V max = 2.23 × 10 −6 M) and low Michaelis–Menten constant ( K M = 5.40 mM). Through the intracellular catalytic Fenton reaction within the tumor environment, both in vitro and in vivo results demonstrate the excellent antitumor effect of GOD/CoFe-LDHs. Therefore, a self-supplied, ultra-efficient and sequential catalytic tumor-specific therapy has been achieved based on GOD/CoFe-LDHs nano-enzyme, which holds great promise in clinical cancer therapy with minimum side effects.
