Oxygen evolution reaction (OER) is an important half-reaction of many actual processes, which has the slow kinetics of four-electron process. Interface engineering as an effective method can accelerate the slow kinetics of oxygen evolution reaction. In this paper, CoSe 2 –MoSe 2 porous nanosheet arrays with heterostructures were synthesized on carbon cloth by ion exchange and vapor phase selenization using Co-MOF as template. Due to the porous two-dimensional structure, the electron diffusion path is shortened and the self-supporting electrode has excellent conductivity. When catalyzing OER in 1 M KOH solution, the CoSe 2 –MoSe 2 delivers an overpotential of 278 mV at 10 mA cmm 2 , and Tafel slope of 61.2 mV dec −1 , making catalytic activity a better result than commercial RuO 2 . In addition, the decay of the catalytic activity is negligible after 24 h of continuous electrolysis. This work provides a method for the design of porous bimetallic selenide self-supporting oxygen evolution electrocatalysts.

The bottleneck of alkaline hydrogen evolution reaction lies in the kinetically sluggish brought from multistep reaction processes involving water adsorption and dissociation, as well as hydrogen adsorption. In this work, we successfully synthesized o-CoSe 2 /c-CoSe 2 heterostructures anchored on MoSe 2 nanosheets to powerfully promote reaction processes. As an electrocatalyst , it exhibits a low overpotential of 112 mV at 10 mA/cm 2 and a Tafel slope of 96.9 mV/dec for an alkaline hydrogen evolution reaction . Moreover, the as-prepared catalyst can behave as both cathode and anode for overall water splitting , which only requires 1.61 V cell voltage at 10 mA/cm 2 . Significantly, the cell voltage can be further reduced to 1.53 V at 10 mA/cm 2 for water electrolysis under the simulated solar irradiation owing to such a semiconductor-based heterostructure that facilitates the separation of photogenerated charges. Here, the improving overall performance of this ternary electrocatalyst is attributed to the multifunctionality and synergistic interaction of different components in this heterogeneous material . The work provides a novel strategy to design active catalysts simultaneously using electric energy and solar energy for effective water splitting.

The exploration of high-performance, low-cost, and dual-function electrodes is crucial for anion exchange membrane water electrolysis (AEMWE) to meet the relentless demand for green H2production. In this study, a heteroatom-doped carbon-cage-supported CoSe2@MoSe2@NC catalyst with a formicarium structure has been fabricated using a scalable one-step selenization strategy. The component-refined bifunctional catalyst exhibited minimal overpotential values of 116 mV and 283 mV at 10 mA cm−2in 1 M KOH for the hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) and the oxygen evolution reaction (OER), respectively. Specifically, rationally designed heterostructures and flexible carbonaceous sponges facilitate interfacial reaction equalization, modulate local electronic distributions, and establish efficient electron transport pathways, thereby enhancing catalytic activity and durability. Furthermore, the assembled AEMWE based on the CoSe2@MoSe2@NC bifunctional catalysts can achieve a current density of 106 mA cm−2at 1.9 V and maintain a favorable durability after running for 100 h (a retention of 95%). This work highlights a new insight into the development of advanced bifunctional catalysts with enhanced activity and durability for AEMWE.

For the first time, porous microspheres of bimetallic CoSe2–MoSe2 hybrids with reduced graphene oxide and amorphous carbon (CS-MS/rGO-C) are synthesized through a facile, low-cost and scalable spray drying approach and a subsequent selenization process. The CS-MS/rGO-C electrocatalyst delivers excellent performance for the hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) in both acidic and alkaline media: in acidic solution, CS-MS/rGO-C has a very low onset potential of −142 mV vs. RHE and a low Tafel slope of 51.3 mV dec−1, and the overpotential at −10 mA cm−2 is as low as −195 mV vs. RHE; in alkaline media, the onset potential of CS-MS/rGO-C is −125 mV vs. RHE, and the Tafel slope is 83.2 mV dec−1, and the overpotential at −10 mA cm−2 is −215 mV vs. RHE. Moreover, it has outstanding long-term stability in both media even after 1000 cycles. The outstanding HER performance of CS-MS/rGO-C can be attributed to its bi-metallic composition, porous rGO-C microsphere structure, and conductive rGO-C skeleton, which can not only provide abundant active sites, but also guarantee high conductivity for CS-MS, thus facilitating the charge transfer. This work provides new insights into scalable synthesis of low-cost electrocatalysts with high efficiency and long-term stability, which can be extended to large-scale production of other advanced electrocatalysts to replace precious Pt-based catalysts for hydrogen evolution.

A green electrocatalytic system for co-production of SATz energetic material and H 2 . • Clean electrons replace hazardous chemical oxidants for SATz synthesis with SATz yield of 75.2%. • CoSe 2 @MoSe 2 @Pt/NF achieves 30 mV@10 mA·cm −2 and 192 mV@10 mA·cm −2 overpotential for HER. • Coupling system achieves low cell voltage of 1.44 V at 10 mA·cm −2 . Replacing the kinetically sluggish oxygen evolution reaction (OER) with thermodynamically more favorable electrochemical oxidation reactions represents an effective strategy to enhance energy efficiency and economic viability in water electrolysis. Herein, we designed a CoSe 2 @MoSe 2 @Pt/NF heterostructured catalytic electrode and construct an integrated electrocatalytic coupling system that enables the co-production of azo-bridged nitrogen-rich energetic material (sodium 5,5′-azotetrazolate, SATz) at the anode and clean hydrogen energy at the cathode. Mechanistic studies reveal that hydroxyl radicals generated via water electrolysis initiate the oxidative coupling of 5-aminotetrazole, achieving a SATz yield of 75.2% under optimized conditions. The CoSe 2 @MoSe 2 @Pt/NF cathode exhibits exceptional HER catalytic activity with a low overpotential of 192 mV at 100 mA·cm −2 and a Tafel slope of 50.2 mV·dec −1 , along with remarkable stability. Notably, the assembled coupling system requires a substantially reduced cell voltage of only 1.44 V to achieve 10 mA·cm −2 , significantly lower than that of conventional overall water splitting (>1.71 V). This work presents a sustainable and energy-efficient strategy for the simultaneous production of green energetic materials and clean hydrogen fuel, opening new avenues for advanced electrocatalytic coupling systems.
