Accurate on-site profiling of the pollutants is of vital significance for estimating environmental pollution . Herein, we propose a paper-based fluorescence-sensing system to precisely report the level of multiple pollutants. A high-performance fluorescence-sensor for apparatus-free and visual on-site tandem precisely reporting phosphate ions (Pi), o -phenylenediamine (OPD), and benzaldehyde (BA) levels have been fabricated successfully by introducing synthesized red emission (>600 nm) fluorescent chromophore 10-(diethylamino)-3-hydroxy-5,6-dihydrobenzo [c]xanthen-12-ium (HTD) into the environment of CoZn zeolitic imidazolate framework (CoZn ZIF) by a simple stirring method. CoZn ZIF@HTD with the bimetallic nodes not merely provided main Zn 2+ sites for specific recognition of Pi to generate an enhanced red fluorescent optical signal , Co 3+ /Co 2+ exhibited excellent peroxidase-like activity for the catalytic oxidation of OPD substrate in the presence of H 2 O 2 resulting in color changing from red to yellow. Subsequently, the obvious yellow fading of the OPDox species took place with the addition of BA. By virtue of the sensitively visual tandem detection of Pi, OPD, and BA, the sensor can be applied to real wastewater samples. Meanwhile, this fluorescent sensor was further adopted for practical application in confocal cell imaging and security inks. Overall, this work established a fluorescent sensing system with integrated multifunctional applications for environmental and biological samples, implying the great potential for simultaneous real-time cascade detection of various important pollutants with the merit of low-cost, time-saving, and easy-to-use.

Designing stable and efficient heterogeneous catalysts for peroxymonosulfate (PMS) activation remains a critical challenge in advanced oxidation processes. Herein, we prepared a polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP)-modified MIL-101(Fe)@CoZn-ZIF (PVP-MCZ) core-shell nanocomposite that synergistically combined enhanced catalytic activity with exceptional stability. The PVP-MCZ catalyst achieved complete degradation of 4-nitrophenol (4-NP) (20 mg/L) within 15 min, while suppressing metal leaching (<0.5 mg/L). Comprehensive characterization (XPS, EPR) revealed a dual-pathway mechanism: (i) radical-dominated SO 4 − generation via Co 2+ /Co 3+ and Fe 2+ /Fe 3+ redox cycling, and (ii) non-radical 1 O 2 production from PMS self-decomposition. This work provides a scalable strategy to design MOF-based catalysts for sustainable water remediation.

The development of intelligent, environmentally responsive oil–water separation membranes with reversible wettability presents a promising strategy for controllable emulsion separation and the advanced treatment of complex oily wastewater. Wastewater. In this study, a novel thermally responsive membrane with switchable wettability between superhydrophilic and superhydrophobic states was fabricated via in situ growth of bimetallic metal–organic frameworks (CoZn-ZIF) on electrospun poly(vinylidene fluoride)/poly(N-isopropylacrylamide) (PVDF/PNIPAM) nanofiber membranes. The resulting PVDF/PNIPAM@CoZn-ZIF membrane leverages the thermally induced reversible conformational transition of PNIPAM to exhibit underwater superoleophobicity below its lower critical solution temperature (LCST) and under-oil superhydrophobicity above LCST. This switchable wettability enabled efficient on-demand separation of both oil-in-water (O/W) and water-in-oil (W/O) emulsions, achieving water permeation fluxes exceeding 1900 L·m–2·h–1 and oil permeation fluxes over 1150 L·m–2·h–1, with separation efficiencies above 99.00% and 99.60%, respectively. Moreover, the embedded Co1Zn3-ZIF served as a catalyst to activate peroxymonosulfate (PMS), generating reactive oxygen species (·OH and·SO4–) and enabling rapid degradation of methylene blue, with a removal efficiency of 99.92% within 15 min. This study presents a multifunctional composite membrane as an intelligent, efficient platform for integrated oil–water emulsion separation and organic pollutant remediation.

The selective conversion of peroxymonosulfate (PMS) to singlet oxygen ( 1 O 2 ) critically depends on precise electronic structure engineering of the catalysts. The PMS electron-donating pathway enables 1 O 2 generation, but the high energy barriers associated with the initial intermediate *SO 5 •− formation result in an unsatisfactory 1 O 2 yield. Herein, Co-doped ZnO was designed by calcination of zeolitic imidazolate framework. Co doping significantly improved the visible-light response, enhanced the photogenerated carrier separation and migration of ZnO, and increased the ZnO valence band potential. These effects promoted the electron-donating reaction of PMS to produce 1 O 2 . The optimized Co-ZnO-3/vis/PMS system exhibited a 27.2-fold higher methylene blue degradation rate constant (k = 0.9871 min⁻¹) with 43.7 % total organic carbon removal within 5 min. In addition, the developed 1 O 2 -dominated oxidation system removed 83.1 % of chromaticity, 59.9 % of total phenol, and 24.8 % of chemical oxidation demand from the coking wastewater tailwater. This work provides a pathway for tailoring 1 O 2 -dominated reactive species for contaminant removal, providing a theoretical guideline for the deep treatment of coking wastewater tailwater.

Efficient separation of oil–water emulsion remains a persistent challenge in wastewater treatment, as conventional membranes often suffer from fouling, poor recyclability, and lack of dynamic control. Here, we report a light-triggered thermo-responsive superwetting nanofiber membrane (PPZ@GO) that combines electrospun PNIPAM/PVDF nanofibers with graphene oxide (GO) and in situ grown bimetallic CoZn–ZIF frameworks. In this hybrid design, PVDF provides mechanical robustness, PNIPAM enables reversible thermo-responsive wettability, GO facilitates rapid photothermal heating, and CoZn–ZIF imparts hierarchical roughness and enhanced interfacial functionality. The optimized [email protected] % membrane exhibits rapid photothermal heating to 48.6 °C within 20 s under simulated solar light, enabling reversible wettability switching between underwater superoleophobicity (light off, below LCST) and under-oil superhydrophobicity (light on, above LCST). This dual-mode response allows on-demand separation of both oil-in-water and water-in-oil emulsions, achieving fluxes above 2000 L m −2 h −1 and 1000 L m −2 h −1 , respectively, with separation efficiencies exceeding 99 %. The membrane further demonstrates excellent antifouling resistance, mechanical durability, and stable performance across repeated cycles. By integrating photothermal conversion with thermo-responsive switching in a nanofibrous MOF–polymer scaffold, this work provides a versatile strategy for designing smart, energy-efficient membranes, offering broad potential for next-generation oily wastewater remediation and advanced separation technologies.

ZIF-derived metal/carbon materials have received great attention for heterogeneous catalysis because of their versatile tunability; however, most of them are microporous-dominated structures, seriously limiting their catalytic performance. Herein, we directly synthesized CoZn@CN catalysts with high specific surface area and pore volume via the facile pyrolysis of CoZn-ZIF/g-C3N4@PDA composites (g-C3N4, graphitic carbon nitride; PDA, polydopamine), in which g-C3N4 works as the pore-forming agent and template and PDA mainly functions as the carbon source. The optimal catalyst (Co4Zn2@CN) exhibits superior specific surface area (825.0 m2/g) and pore volume (2.4 cm3/g), which can remarkably improve the mass transfer efficiency and boost the active site exposure, achieving a TOF of 34.5 h–1 for the selective hydrogenation of 3-nitrostyrene at 80 °C and 1 MPa H2. Additionally, the preferential adsorption of the nitro group is confirmed to be the main reason for the general selectivity in the hydrogenation of various functionalized nitroarenes. Finally, the Co4Zn2@CN catalyst also shows excellent stability and can be reused at least 5 times. We anticipate that such a novel strategy may provide some valuable insights into the synthesis of ZIF-derived catalysts with tunable structures.

The structure design and atomic modulation of catalysts are two sides of the same coin, both of which are deemed critical factors to regulate the intrinsic electrocatalytic activity. Herein, cobalt single-atom anchored on nitrogen-doped graphene-sheet@tube (CoSAs-NGST) is derived from a novel Co, Zn-coordinated zeolitic imidazolate framework (CoZn-ZIF) in the presence of dicyandiamide. CoSAs-NGST exhibited a hybrid structure with a bamboo-like graphene tube and sheet. The atomic configuration of intrinsic defects is characterized by electron energy loss spectroscopy. The morphology differentiation from cake-shape structure to low-dimension hybrid not only enhances the dispersity of single atoms but also induces defect state evolution, which results in the formation of a CoN 4 -rich graphene tube. Density functional theory (DFT) modeling revealed that the coupling effect on oxygen reduction reaction and oxygen evolution reaction (ORR/OER) pathways of Co-N 4 -tube and Co-N 4 -sheet is responsible for the enhanced activity of CoSAs-NGST. In addition to the superb ORR/OER bifunctional catalytic performance, CoSAs-NGST also demonstrates a notably small charge–discharge voltage drop of 0.93 V when applied in the rechargeable zinc–air battery outperforming Pt/C + RuO 2 catalyst. The present study provides an insight into the relationship between the structure design and atomic modulation of the carbon based catalysts.

In this study, MOF-on-MOF hybrids were successfully synthesized by interfacial growth method using CoZn-ZIF as guest MOF and MIL-101(Fe) as host MOF, and then employed as heterogeneous catalysts to activate peroxymonosulfate (PMS) in the degradation of dyes. The hybrids exhibited different morphologies depending on the Co/Zn ratios (10/0, 10/2, 10/10, and 2/10), all of which displayed exceptional catalytic performance. Notably, the hybrid with a Co/Zn ratio of 10/2 showed the highest degradation rate of MB, reaching 100 % removal within 3 min with a k obs value of 452.75 Lg −1 min −1 based on the pseudo-second-order kinetic model. Through EPR characterization and scavenging experiments, it was determined that the degradation of dyes occurred through a combination of radical (SO 4 •-, •OH)and non-radical ( 1 O 2 ) pathways, with 1 O 2 and SO 4 •- playing prominent roles. Various factors such as Co/Zn ratio, catalyst dosage, PMS concentration, initial pH, temperature, and MB solution concentration were systematically investigated to understand their influence on the catalytic performance. Furthermore, the influence of inorganic ions, humic acid (HA), and the reusability and stability of the catalyst was evaluated, demonstrating its potential for practical applications. Overall, this research provides valuable insights into the design and application of MOF-based catalysts for environmental remediation processes.
