The cesium-based fluoride Cs 3 YF 6 has increasingly attracted curiosity due to its potential in up-conversion luminescence applications, signifying a possible revolutionary change in the next generation of lanthanide-doped luminescent functional materials. However, the nature of the photoluminescence process involving Cs 3 YF 6 has still not been studied in detail. Developing Cs 3 YF 6 luminescence applications is an intricate endeavor. Herein, we present the optimal doping concentration required for Eu 3+ and Tb 3+ doping in Cs 3 YF 6 . Meanwhile, by spectra analyses and theoretical model simulations, we have been able to decipher the intricacies of the energy transfer interaction that transpires between Tb 3+ and Eu 3+ ions. Furthermore, a water-sensitive fluorescence response system tailored for anti-counterfeiting applications was designed, which relied on the superior luminescence characteristics of Cs 3 YF 6 doped with Tb 3+ /Eu 3+ under excitation at 254 nm, whilst simultaneously exploiting the easily deliquescent nature of Cs 3 YF 6 . This work not only enhances the understanding of Cs 3 YF 6 materials in the field of rare-earth luminescence but also introduces a novel anti-counterfeiting strategy, that propels the development of applications for rare-earth-doped fluoride materials.

Cryolite has been considered as an appropriate host for up-conversion materials due to its low phonon energy, wide light transmission range, easy to form waveguide and stable structure. In this paper, a series of up-conversion materials Cs 3 YF 6 : Er 3+ , Yb 3+ with cryolite structure were prepared by high-temperature solid-phase method. The structure, morphology, element composition and up-conversion luminescence properties of as-prepared samples were characterized. In addition, the number of photons absorbed during the up-conversion process and the possible up-conversion luminescence mechanism are analyzed in detail. Under the excitation of 980 nm, the Cs 3 YF 6 : Er 3+ , Yb 3+ sample emits strong green light visible to the naked eye. Simultaneously, the maximum absolute sensitivity (S a ) and relative sensitivity (S r ) were calculated. All the results indicated that Cs 3 YF 6 : Er 3+ , Yb 3+ has potential applications in the fields of green light display and temperature sensing.

Luminescence intensity ratio (LIR) thermometry based on distinct up-conversion luminescence centers was established in Cs-based fluorides. By contrasting the nonthermally coupled luminescence intensity of Er3+/Ho3+/Tm3+, it is possible to determine which kind of up-conversion emission ion is more suited for the perovskite-like Cs3YF6 material. The best option is Er-doped Cs3YF6 samples with a relative sensitivity (Sr) of 0.96% K–1, according to a comparison of the LIR fitting findings. However, the extremely high absolute sensitivity (Sa) in Cs3YF6: Yb, Tm suggests that Sa is not trustworthy in the LIR temperature evaluation system according to the temperature resolution δT. This work provides recommendations for the LIR temperature sensing design for comparable Cs-based fluorides while minimizing time and expense.
