The Cu/TiO 2 catalysts with the addition of Eu were developed by the sol-gel way for the selective catalytic reduction (SCR) of NO x by NH 3 . Activity tests revealed that CuEu/TiO 2 -0.15 catalyst showed the optimal de-NO x performance in a wide temperature range (150–300 °C), along with an admirable SO 2 tolerance. According to characterization analysis, the relationship between the NH 3 -SCR performance and physicochemical characters of samples was explored. The adjunction of Eu on Cu/TiO 2 catalyst can contribute to the formation of a large amount of Cu 2+ , adsorbed oxygen, and acid sites on the catalyst surface. Moreover, the Eu addition on Cu/TiO 2 is favorable to the generation of activated NO x and NH 3 substances adsorbed on the catalyst surface, which would conduce to the NH 3 -SCR process by Langmuir-Hinshelwood (L-H) mechanism effectively.

Graphical Another drop of copper : A non-noble metal catalyst of Cu/TiO 2 is effective for the heterogeneous N -methylation of N -methylaniline with CO 2 and H 2 , in which CHO* is formed as methyl reagent, and it reacts with N -methylaniline to produce intermediate N -methylformanilide followed by its hydrogenation to N,N -dimethylaniline. A non-noble heterogeneous catalyst of Cu/TiO 2 was prepared for N -methylation of N -methylaniline (MA) with CO 2 and H 2 . 5 wt.–% Cu loaded TiO 2 (P25) catalyst exhibited a high performance, with 82 % MA conversion and 98 % N,N -dimethylaniline (DMA) selectivity under the reaction conditions used (4 MPa H 2 , 2 MPa CO 2 , 180 °C, 36 h). The Cu/TiO 2 catalyst was more effective with respective to the total conversion and the DMA selectivity as compared to 5 wt.–% Cu loaded catalysts on CeO 2 , ZnO and activated carbon materials. The possible active species of Cu/TiO 2 catalyst should be both Cu + and Cu 0 which contributed to the high activity as the reaction conversion increased linearly with them exposed on the surface of catalyst. Moreover, the reaction pathways involved were studied; it was likely that the reaction took place via an intermediate of formaldehyde that was formed from CO 2 and H 2 , as confirmed by in situ diffuse reflectance Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy, then it reacted with MA to give N -methylformanilide (MFA), and finally MFA was hydrogenated to DMA.

In SCR denitrification technology, the conventional coprecipitation method has the disadvantages of high temperature and difficulty in controlling the precipitation rate. Various Ce x CuTiO 2 catalysts were synthesized using ice-melting (Ce x CuTi-Ice) and conventional coprecipitation (Ce x CuTi-Con) methods for the selective catalytic reduction (SCR) of NO with NH 3 . Ce 0.4 CuTi-Ice catalyst exhibited excellent catalytic activity among the Ce x CuTiO 2 catalysts, and 80% NO x conversion was achieved within a temperature range of 250–375 °C, exceeding that of Ce 0.4 CuTi-Con catalyst by 20%; in addition, N 2 selectivity was nearly 100%. To elucidate the release characteristics of the precursor solution during ice-melting synthesis, the changes of Cu and Ce concentrations in the solution were investigated by ICP-OES. The precursor solution was released at a slow rate via the ice-melting method, resulting in a large surface area, small crystallite sizes, and effective uniform nanoparticles with abundant active species and increased surface acidity. The promoted mechanism could be attributed to the enhanced oxidation of NO to NO 2 at low temperatures and the rapid reaction between NO species and coordinated NH 3 at high temperatures. © 2022 Society of Chemical Industry (SCI).

The Cu/TiO 2 catalysts modified by Sb were compounded through the sol-gel way and put into use for the selective catalytic reduction (SCR) of NOx with NH 3 . Experimental results suggested that CuSb/TiO 2 -0.4 exhibited the excellent NOx conversion and SO 2 tolerance. Subsequently, the relationship between surface physicochemical properties and catalytic performance was also investigated by different characterization methods. From characterizations, the introduction of Sb for Cu/TiO 2 could promote the generation of more Cu 2+ , surface adsorbed oxygen species and surface acid sites on CuSb/TiO 2 -0.4 catalyst. Furthermore, Sb species on CuSb/TiO 2 -0.4 could contribute to the formation of more surface ad-NOx and ad-NH 3 species, which would enhance the NH 3 -SCR process effectively through both the Langmuir-Hinshelwood (L-H) and Eley-Rideal (E-R) mechanisms.
