Arsenic is a harmful associated element in antimony ore, which might bring out the risk of leakage during complex industrial production of high-purity antimony. Herein, we reported a novel and efficient way to remove the trace arsenic impurity from acidic SbCl 3 solution by utilizing copper-system bimetallic particles. Specifically, galvanically coupled Cu 2 Sb/Cu was in-situ synthesized by introducing precursor copper powder to the specific SbCl 3 solution. DFT studies revealed that Sb(III) was easily reduced by Cu to form Cu 2 Sb due to the strong adsorption of Sb(III) on Cu (111) crystal plane. The Cu 2 Sb/Cu coupling exhibited excellent activity for As(III) reduction, over 99.4% arsenic were removed under optimal conditions and residual arsenic concentration dropped to only 2.7 mg L −1 . Crucially, Sb(III) concentration changes could be neglected. Besides, the dearsenization residues were extensively characterized to analyze the evolvement and cause in the reaction process. The results confirmed that the arsenic removal mechanisms by Cu 2 Sb/Cu particles were multi-affected, including adsorption, displacement, and precipitation. And the strong electrostatic attraction of AsO + under high HCl conditions was identified as a key step to achieving dearsenization. This research will provide a theoretical guidance for the green synthesis of high-purity antimony and related products.

Cu particles are limited in their applications due to their susceptibility to oxidation. Here we report a cost-effective method for producing Cu particles with oxidation resistance. By heating the mixture of basic cupric carbonate and glucose powders, Cu particles coated with amorphous carbon were achieved. The amorphous carbon was then converted into graphene through flash joule heating (FJH). The conductivity of the final product was 47.1 S/cm after FJH, which remained as 42.3 S/cm even after in hot air for 30 min, i.e., 89.8% conductivity retention. The product was demonstrated for the application of electromagnetic interference (EMI) shielding with an average EMI shielding effectiveness of 12.3 dB and 11.7 dB before and after oxidizing treatment, respectively.

Complexity of chemical linkages (C-C/C-H/C-O, C=C/C=O, or C-O-H/C-O-C) in biomass-derived molecules makes the selective activation of targeted bonds much more challenging, expecting well-defined catalysts and definite catalytically-active sites. This work demonstrates an effective gradient reduction strategy to control the definite structure of catalytically-active sites, affording defects-rich nano-twin Cu particles. This strategy just involves the reduction (calcination under H 2 ) of Cu II -containing layered double hydroxides (LDHs) simply with controlling the reduction gradient (interval time) of Cu II species in two chemical micro-environments (Cu II -O-Cu II and Cu II -O-M II/III/IV (M ≠ Cu)) in the brucite-like layer of LDHs. The nano-twin Cu particles efficiently promote the target activation of C-O and C=C in the conversion of furfural to cyclopentanone (CPO). With ~100% furfural conversion, the defects-rich nano-twin Cu particles afford a CPO selectivity of 92%, 50% higher than regular spherical Cu particles. The multi-stepped defect sites, originating from the planar defects, play a decisive role in promoting the CPO selectivity by facilitating the hydro-deoxygenation to C-O of 4-hydroxycyclopentenone (HCP) and hydrogenation to C=C of HCP or cyclopentenone.

Sintering of active metal species often happens during catalytic reactions, which requires redispersion in a reactive atmosphere at elevated temperatures to recover the activity. Herein, we report a simple method to redisperse sintered Cu catalysts via O 2 -H 2 O treatment at room temperature. In-situ spectroscopic characterizations reveal that H 2 O induces the formation of hydroxylated Cu species in humid O 2 , pushing surface diffusion of Cu atoms at room temperature. Further, surface OH groups formed on most hydroxylable support surfaces such as γ-Al 2 O 3 , SiO 2 , and CeO 2 in the humid atmosphere help to pull the mobile Cu species and enhance Cu redispersion. Both pushing and pulling effects of gaseous H 2 O promote the structural transformation of Cu aggregates into highly dispersed Cu species at room temperature, which exhibit enhanced activity in reverse water gas shift and preferential oxidation of carbon monoxide reactions. These findings highlight the important role of H 2 O in the dynamic structure evolution of supported metal nanocatalysts and lay the foundation for the regeneration of sintered catalysts under mild conditions.
