Efficient electron transfer and copper species transformation under the synergy of BiVO4 and novel Cu2(OH)3F nanosheets

Zhang Xueying,Liu Yonggang,Yu Yonghao,Wang Lifen,Lin Yinjun

Here, we report a simple and efficient strategy for evenly in situ growth of Cu 2 (OH) 3 F nanosheets on BiVO 4 spheres as a novel photo-Fenton-like catalyst using hydrothermal method. The Cu 2 (OH) 3 F/BiVO 4 composite catalysts showed great performance for the organic pollutants degradation under visible light irradiation due to the efficient electron transfer and copper species transformation. The synergetic between Cu 2 (OH) 3 F and BiVO 4 not only promoted the separation of electrons and holes but also enhanced the Cu 2+ reduction, thus produced more strong oxidative radicals under a wide pH value range. The activity of Cu 2 (OH) 3 F/BiVO 4 composite for methylene blue degradation was 6.03 and 5.47 times more than that of pristine Cu 2 (OH) 3 F and BiVO 4 , respectively. The composite catalysts were characterized with various methods and their stability and adaptability were also evaluated. Finally, a possible photo-Fenton-like reaction mechanism was also proposed based on the band structure/position and reaction species.

Z-scheme Cu2(OH)3F nanosheets-decorated 3D Bi2WO6 heterojunction with an intimate hetero-surface contact through a hydrogen bond for enhanced photoinduced charge separation and transfer

Lifen Wang,Yonggang Liu,Yinjun Lin,Xueying Zhang,Yonghao Yu,Ruiqin Zhang

Enhancing the effective contact between heterogeneous interfaces and accelerating photo-generated charge separation is the focus of current photocatalysis research. Herein, a novel Z-scheme Cu 2 (OH) 3 F/Bi 2 WO 6 (CFO/BWO) heterojunctions with intimate hetero-surface contact were successfully synthesized via electronic coupling of the surface hydrogen bonds. The optimal proportion of 25%CFO/BWO displayed outstanding photocatalytic performance among the removal of tetracycline hydrochloride (TC-HCl). The excellent catalytic effect comes from the construction of the Z-Scheme heterojunction, which accelerates the separation of photogenerated carriers, and the linking of hydrogen bonds between different planes providing more charge transfer channels. Moreover, explored the main active substances in the reaction process and tested the stability of the as-prepared samples, and the charge transfer law and degradation mechanism in the Z-scheme heterojunction are discussed in detail. This work provides a new way to construct heterojunctions with more adequate hetero-surface contact and faster charge transfer capabilities.

Construction of a novel Cu2(OH)3F/Cu2O n-p heterojunction by in-situ reduction: photo-Fenton-like synergistic promotion of efficient Cu2+/Cu+ cycling

Ke Liu,Lixiang Shi,Yaxin Guo,Shiduo Hao,Yunpu Zhai,Yonggang Liu

Cu-based Fenton-like systems have demonstrated high effectiveness in the degradation of organic pollutants, however, challenges still exist to overcome the sluggish cycling of metal ions and fast activation of reactants. Herein, a novel n-p type Cu 2 (OH) 3 F/Cu 2 O photo-Fenton-like catalyst (CFC) was prepared with in-situ reduction of Cu 2 (OH) 3 F and applied for tetracycline hydrochloride degradation. Under optimized condition, the target catalyst (CFC-5) showed excellent activity, achieving a degradation efficiency of approximately 99.93 % in 30 min. The reaction rate constant with CFC-5 was 4.10 and 3.26 times higher than that of Cu 2 (OH) 3 F and Cu 2 O, respectively. Moreover, the Cu 2 (OH) 3 F/Cu 2 O catalyst exhibited highly cycling stability and broad applicability. The results illustrate that construction of Cu 2 (OH) 3 F/Cu 2 O composites facilitates the charge separation and enhances Cu 2+ /Cu + cycling, which benefits the generation of highly oxidizing active species and thus significantly improved the degradation efficiency. Besides, this study offers a versatile method to construct inexpensive and efficient photo-Fenton-like heterojunction catalysts.

One-step synthesis of novel Ni-doped Cu2(OH)3F Fenton-like catalyst driven by visible light: Single activity and synergistic effect enhanced by bimetallic cooperation

Lifen Wang,Yonggang Liu,Yinjun Lin,Yonghao Yu,Xueying Zhang,Ruiqin Zhang,Yunpu Zhai

In this study, an effective Ni-doped Cu 2 (OH) 3 F was synthesized by a simple one-step hydrothermal method to activate H 2 O 2 for degrading organic pollutants in water. The prepared (Cu 2−x Ni x ) 2 (OH) 3 F showed significant degradation performance for the degradation of RhB and TC. The characterization methods of XRD, XPS , TEM , SEM, FT-IR proved that Ni successfully replaced part of the Cu in Cu 2 (OH) 3 F site and provided more active sites for decomposition of H 2 O 2 through the synergistic effect of the bimetal . Besides, the photochemical properties of the prepared catalysts were analyzed by UV–vis, electrochemical impedance spectroscopy and transient photocurrent, which confirmed that the introduction of Ni narrowed the band gap of (Cu 2−x Ni x ) 2 (OH) 3 F and accelerated the separation of photogenerated electrons and hole pairs. Free radical capture experiments showed that •OH, h + , and •O 2 - all contributed to the reaction, and •OH was the main active substance. This research provides a photo-Fenton-like catalyst with simple synthesis, high performance and stable properties for future sewage treatment.

In-situ decoration of Cu2(OH)3F on BiOBr with exposed (010) facets: Heterojunctions and photo-Fenton-like synergistic promote Cu+/Cu2+ circulation

Yaxin Guo,Yonggang Liu,Shiduo Hao,Xueying Zhang,Yonghao Yu

Among various advanced oxidation processes , coupling photocatalysis and Fenton-like reactions can overcome the inherent drawbacks of the single technology , which is usually used to remove organic contaminants from wastewater. In this paper, Cu 2 (OH) 3 F/BiOBr composites with (010) facets exposed surface were prepared by a simple hydrothermal method. The degradation efficiency of tetracycline hydrochloride (TC-HCl) solution with Cu 2 (OH) 3 F/BiOBr composite in the photo-Fenton-like system reached 98.8 % within 60 min, and the degradation activity was 4.18 and 2.46 times considerably greater than those of photocatalytic and Fenton-like reactions, respectively. After 5 cycles, the degradation efficiency was still maintained at 89.8 %, demonstrating the exceptional stability of the catalyst. Moreover, based on the characterization of the catalyst, it was found that the high exposure of the crystal plane of the BiOBr material (010) not only speeds up the electron transport between Cu 2 (OH) 3 F and BiOBr and improves the rapid conversion of Cu 2+ ions, but also slows down the rapid electron-hole recombination. Then the free radicals during the reaction were captured, which found that ·OH, ·O 2 − and h + were the main active components in this synergistic degradation system. Finally, the mechanism of Cu 2 (OH) 3 F/BiOBr (010) heterojunction photo-Fenton-like synergistic degradation was proposed. This work can provide an effective pathway for the removal of antibiotics from wastewater.

An optimization strategy for photo-Fenton-like catalysts: Based on crystal plane engineering of BiVO4 and electron transfer properties of 0D CQDs

Xueying Zhang,Yonggang Liu,Yunpu Zhai,Yonghao Yu,Yaxin Guo,Shiduo Hao

Herein, we report a novel Cu 2 (OH) 3  F/CQDs-BiVO 4 composite photo-Fenton-like system, which used BiVO 4 and Cu 2 (OH) 3 F as electron donor and acceptor, respectively, and achieved efficient electron transfer between them through the electron bridging effect of Carbon quantum dots (CQDs). The material exhibited excellent ciprofloxacin (CIP) removal efficiency in the photo-Fenton-like coupled system. Cu 2 (OH) 3  F/CQDs-BiVO 4 had an incredibly fast response rate, eliminating 98.1% of CIP from the solution in just 1 h, according to the reaction kinetics. Exploratory tests proved that the catalyst kept up a sufficient level of activity across a wide pH range of 3–11 and in the presence of various anions. The activity, morphology, and crystal structure of the samples did not appreciably alter after five recycles. Finally, a possible reaction mechanism was also proposed based on the band structure, position and reaction species.
