The design of organic–inorganic heterojunctions can facilitate the separation of photoinduced charge carriers by modulating the electronic structure at the surface and interface states, showing promising applications in the field of photocatalytic CO2 cycloaddition. However, the details of the surface/interface effects between these two components are still poorly understood. Herein, Cu2O@Cu3(HHTP)2 (HHTP = 2, 3, 6, 7, 10, 11-hexahydroxytriphenylene) heterojunctions were synthesized, where Cu2O nanoparticles (NPs) featuring distinct crystal facets were utilized as substrates for the in situ growth of the copper-based metal–organic framework (Cu3(HHTP)2). Among them, t-Cu2O@Cu3(HHTP)2, centered on t-Cu2O with {111} and {100} facets, exhibits superior performance toward photocatalytic CO2 cycloaddition to chlorinated propylene carbonate, with a conversion efficiency of 372 mmol g–1 h–1 under light. Notably, single-particle spectroscopy reveals a more efficient photogenerated carrier transfer between t-Cu2O and Cu3(HHTP)2. The results confirm that crystalline facet dependence is a key factor in semiconductor photocatalysis and an important strategy for optimizing the reactivity of photocatalysts, which provides a way to improve the photocatalytic CO2 cycloaddition performance by modulating the interfacial states of organic–inorganic heterojunction structures.

The advancement of non-enzymatic glucose sensors is essential for enhancing the cost-effectiveness and continuous monitoring capabilities of glucose detection systems. Employing innovative materials and device structures constitute key strategies to achieve this objective. Herein, an in-situ growth method of laser-induced graphene (LIG) using dye-stained polyimide colloids formed films on various substrates was introduced. The cost-efficient, rapid, and portable glucose sensor was developed based on LIG patterned via direct laser writing (DLW), combining with a layer-by-layer growth method to deposit Cu 3 (HHTP) 2 (HHTP, 2,3,6,7,10,11-hexahydroxytriphenylene) onto the surface of LIG. By utilizing the first-principles density functional theory (DFT) calculations, the results shows that the LIG result in an upward shift of the d-band of Cu 3 (HHTP) 2 , hindering electrons from filling into the anti-bonding orbitals and improving the adsorption ability of the intermediate product on the surface, enhancing electrode catalytic activity. The glucose sensor has achieved a wide detection range (0.01–22 mM), a low detection limit (3 μM) and an excellent sensitivity (5276 μA mM −1 cm −2 ) in the low concentration range. This work provides novel insights into the growth of LIG on various substrates and offers a non-enzymatic sensor capable of accurate glucose measurements, while demonstrating exceptional reliability, stability and precision.

Structural evolution of Cu 3 (HHTP) 2 under polymerization is revealed. • Cu 3 (HHTP) 2 -derived species and PANI synergistically enhance NH 3 sensing. • The sensor achieves a wide NH 3 detection range of 0.5–500 ppm. • The sensor exhibits reliable sensing under high humidity and bending. • The sensor realizes real-time monitoring of seafood spoilage. Ammonia (NH 3 ) is a key volatile indicator of seafood spoilage, and developing sensitive NH 3 sensors that operate stably in complex environments is highly desirable. Conductive polymers such as polyaniline (PANI) have attracted attention for room-temperature sensing, but their limited adsorption capability and environmental stability still restrict practical applications. In this work, a flexible NH 3 sensor was developed by integrating PANI with Cu 3 (HHTP) 2 through in situ oxidative polymerization. During the acidic polymerization process, Cu 3 (HHTP) 2 undergoes structural evolution, generating Cu-containing and HHTP-derived components that remain associated with the PANI matrix. The optimized PACU20 sensor exhibits a wide detection range of 0.5–500 ppm NH 3 , a high response value of 14.5 toward 100 ppm NH 3 , and rapid response/recovery times of 37/56 s. Furthermore, the sensor maintains stable sensing performance under high humidity conditions and repeated bending cycles, indicating its robustness under practical storage and flexible operating environments. The enhanced sensing behavior might be attributed to the synergistic interaction between PANI and Cu 3 (HHTP) 2 -derived components, which regulate the local chemical environment of PANI and enhance NH 3 -induced charge variation. Practically, the sensor was applied to monitor ammonia evolution during fish and shrimp spoilage, demonstrating its potential for seafood freshness evaluation.

2D conductive metal–organic frameworks (2D c-MOFs) naturally possess high active sites, large specific surface areas, and fast ion transport for energy-storage devices. However, the intelligent exploration of 2D c-MOFs for the emerging flexible transparent supercapacitors (FTSCs) with excellent photoelectric property and electrochemical activity is rarely implemented. Herein, 2D conductive ultrathin Cu 3 (HHTP) 2 (HHTP = 2,3,6,7,10,11-hexahydroxytriphenylene) film is synthesized on the indium tin oxide/polyethylene terephthalate (ITO/PET) substrate for flexible transparent conductive electrodes (FTCEs) through the layer-by-layer assembly method. The interconnected conductive frameworks possess the cooperative superiority of low internal resistance, fast electrolyte ion diffusion, and quick electron transfer. Cu 3 (HHTP) 2 -15/ITO/PET FTCEs show high photoelectric property of T 550 nm = 82.2% and R s = 49.1 Ω sq −1 , and high areal capacitance ( C A ) of 1700 µF cm −2 . The corresponding symmetrical FTSCs ( T 550 nm = 62.1%) exhibit excellent C A of 939.2 µF cm −2 at the current density of 7 µA cm −2 , superior rate capability (63.9% at 150 µA cm −2 ), long-term cycling stability (85% after 3000 cycles), and mechanical flexibility under different bending angles. This work provides key insights into the design and synthesis of 2D c-MOF films for flexible transparent energy-storage devices.

The conductive metal–organic framework (CMOF) is a promising application nanomaterial for the construction of electrochemical sensors. Three two-dimensional conductive M3(HHTP)2 materials with larger aspect ratios were prepared by a one-pot method using acetate-based metals (Cu, Ni, Co) and 2,3,6,7,10,11-hexahydroxytriphenylene (HHTP) with the introduction of N,N-dimethylformamide (DMF) as the limiting reagent. Compared with Ni3(HHTP)2 and Co3(HHTP)2, Cu3(HHTP)2 had a larger double capacitance, pore size, specific surface area, and smaller resistance. As a result, Cu3(HHTP)2 provided greater catalytic oxidation active surface area and charge transfer efficiency for malachite green (MG) detection. Hence, Cu3(HHTP)2 efficiently catalyzed MG oxidation and significantly improved the sensitivity of MG detection. Meanwhile, the oxidation current signal from the copper of Cu3(HHTP)2 was used as an internal reference signal to form a ratiometric electrochemical sensor with an MG oxidation current signal, which effectively reduced the external interference. The constructed electrochemical assay for MG detection displayed broad linearity (5–1000 nM) with a detection limit of 1.34 nM. In the meantime, MG residues in fish was evaluated and high reliability was obtained, confirming the feasibility of this valuable method for food safety and health evaluation of aquatic products.

Designing innovative electrochemiluminescence (ECL) immunosensors is critical for the detection of biomarkers with a low concentration and the precise evaluation of clinical diseases. Herein, a Cu 3 (hexahydroxytriphenylene) 2 (Cu 3 (HHTP) 2 ) nanoflake-based sandwich-type ECL immunosensor was constructed for C-Reactive Protein (CRP) detection. The Cu 3 (HHTP) 2 nanoflake , an electronically conductive metal–organic framework (MOF), has a periodically arranged porous structure with a cavity size of 2 nm, which not only accommodates a large amount of Ru(bpy) 3 2+ but also confines the spatial diffusion of active species. Therefore, the Ru(bpy) 3 2+ -loaded Cu 3 (HHTP) 2 nanocomplex (Ru@CuMOF) as an ECL emitter exhibits an enhanced ECL efficiency. The ECL resonance energy transfer (ECL-RET) was accomplished by combining Ru@CuMOF used as a donor with gold nanoparticles-functionalized graphene oxide nanosheets (GO-Au) utilized as an acceptor. This should be ascribed to the fact that the ECL emission spectrum of Ru@CuMOF shows the strongest signal intensity at 615 nm, overlapping with the absorption spectrum of GO-Au at 580–680 nm. Targeted detection of CRP in human serum samples was achieved by the sandwich-type immunosensor based on the ECL-RET mechanism with a 0.26 pg mL −1 detection limit. The electro-activated hybrids of Cu 3 (HHTP) 2 and ECL emitters provide a new sensing strategy for the high-sensitivity detection of disease markers.

The simultaneous determination of dopamine and uric acid in complicated biological matrices remains challenging due to overlapping electrochemical signals and interference from coexisting species. Herein, a machine learning-assisted electrochemical sensor based on a Cu 3 (HHTP) 2 /COOH-MWCNTs hybrid is developed for the simultaneous determination of these analytes. Benefiting from the unique π-π stacking and π-d conjugation characteristics of Cu 3 (HHTP) 2 , as well as the excellent coordination effect between COOH-MWCNTs and Cu 2+ and the good dispersibility of carbon nanotubes themselves, the composite material exhibits more prominent surface activity, significantly boosting the exposure of active sites and accelerating the electron transfer kinetics at the electrode-electrolyte interface. On this basis, we constructed an electrochemical sensing platform for the simultaneous detection of DA and UA in human serum samples. The sensor show excellent performance with dual linear ranges of 0.5–15 and 15–80 μM for DA, and 1–200 and 200–350 μM for UA, achieving low LODs of 0.039 μM and 0.083 μM, respectively (S/N = 3). Furthermore, machine learning (ML) algorithms were employed to optimize electrochemical signal processing, enabling more accurate and robust analysis of complex data. The proposed approach achieved successful application in the simultaneous determination of DA and UA in human serum matrix samples.

The realization of efficient and accurate detection of biomolecules has become a key scientific issue in the field of life sciences. With the rapid development of nanotechnology, electrochemical sensors constructed from the superior physical and chemical properties of nanomaterials show faster and more accurate detection. Among nanomaterials, two-dimensional conductive MOF (2D cMOF) is considered to be a star material in electrochemical sensors due to its remarkable conductivity, high porosity, and stability. In this paper, a Cu3(HHTP)2/SPE electrochemical sensor for the detection of ascorbic acid (AA) was constructed by modifying 2D cMOF (Cu3(HHTP)2) on the surface of the screen-printed electrode (SPE). The sensor exhibited excellent catalytic activity in the detection of AA, with a lower detection limit of 2.4 μmol/L (S/N = 3) and a wide linear range of 25–1645 μmol/L. This high catalytic activity can be attributed to the abundant catalytic sites in Cu3(HHTP)2and the rapid electron transfer between Cu+and Cu2+, which accelerates the oxidation of AA. This work lays a foundation for the subsequent development of MOFs with special electrochemical catalytic properties and the integration of 2D cMOF into intelligent electrical analysis devices.

Constructing S-scheme heterojunctions on two-dimensional (2D) conductive metal–organic frameworks (c-MOFs), which possess high specific surface area, abundant active sites, and excellent electrical conductivity, is widely regarded as an effective strategy to enhance photocatalytic performance. In this study, an S-type heterojunction was fabricated by coupling a 2D c-MOF, Cu3(HHTP)2, with In2S3 to synergistically improve photocatalytic activity. Unlike conventional flake-like heterojunctions that often block the vertical pore channels of c-MOFs, we synthesized rod-like Cu3(HHTP)2/In2S3 composites through controlled morphological engineering. Experimental results demonstrate the resulting nonplanar interfacial contact effectively preserves the intrinsic pore architecture while fully exposing the dz2 orbitals of Cu active centers. Structural analyses reveal that the rod-like Cu3(HHTP)2 interacts with In2S3 predominantly via In–O bonds formed on its lateral facets, thereby maintaining the inherent porosity and exposing a large number of active sites. Consequently, the CO2 adsorption capacity reaches 13.44 cm3·g–1, 2.18 times higher than that of the flake-like Cu3(HHTP)2/In2S3 composite that In2S3 is bonded via Cu–S bonds on the surface. Moreover, the incorporation of In2S3 enhances interlayer charge transport within the rod-like structure. As a result of these synergistic effects, the electron consumption rate of the rod-like heterojunction is 1.73 times greater than that of its flake-like counterpart. The unique architecture not only retains the in-plane charge transport advantages derived from d-π conjugation in c-MOFs but also introduces interlayer electron-bridging pathways through In2S3, leading to significantly improved electrical conductivity and charge separation efficiency.

Dopamine (DA) is a central neurotransmitter that plays a crucial role in human metabolism. Its precise detection is of great importance in disease diagnosis. Compared with single-signal detection methods, colorimetric and electrochemical dual-signal outputs can self-validate the measured data and counteract interference effects, which is expected to provide more reliable detection results. In this paper, carbon nanofiber-supported 3D bristlegrass-like π-conjugated conducting metal–organic frameworks ( c MOF) Cu 3 (HHTP) 2 nanorod arrays (Cu 3 (HHTP) 2 NRAs/CNF) catalyst with core–shell structure are synthesized by electrospinning and solvothermal reaction. The obtained catalyst possesses remarkable peroxidase-like activity which can catalyze the colorless 3,3′,5,5′ −tetramethylbenzidine (TMB) to blue oxTMB. The mechanism study showes that ·OH radicals are the main active substances. Meanwhile, the core–shell structure between π-conjugated cMOF and CNF can effectively inhibit the aggregation of Cu 3 (HHTP) 2 nanorods and generate more catalytic active sites, resulting in strong electrocatalytic activity of Cu 3 (HHTP) 2 NRAs/CNF. As a result, a novel dual-mode sensor based on colorimetric and electrochemical are constructed for detecting dopamine (DA) with a good linear relationship ranging from 2.5-60 μM and 0.1–106 μM, and the limit of detection (LOD) are 0.27 μM and 10.1 nM (S/N=3), respectively. This study opens up a new idea for the application of c MOF peroxidase-like enzyme in sensing field.

Formaldehyde is known to harm the respiratory, nervous, and digestive systems of people. In this paper, a novel dandelion-like electrocatalyst with core–shell heterostructure arrays were fast self-assembled prepared in situ using copper foam (CF) as support substrate and 2,3,6,7,10,11 hexahydroxy-triphenyl (HHTP) as ligand (Cu(OH) 2 @Cu 3 (HHTP) 2 /CF) by a simple two-step hydrothermal reaction. The 1D Cu(OH) 2 nanorods “core” and the 2D π-conjugated conducting metal–organic frameworks (Cu 3 (HHTP) 2 c MOF) “shell” with remote delocalized electrons give the dandelion-like heterogeneous catalysts excellent electrochemical activity such as a large specific surface area, high conductivity and a fast electron transfer rate. The Cu(OH) 2 @Cu 3 (HHTP) 2 /CF exhibited excellent electrocatalytic performance for formaldehyde under alkaline conditions with a linear range of 0.2 μmol/L – 125 μmol/L and 125 μmol/L – 8 mmol/L, a detection limit as low as 15.9 nmol/L (S/N = 3), as well as good accuracy, consistency, and durability, and it effectively identified FA in food.

It is highly desirable to develop a low-cost and rapid detection method for trace levels of carbendazim fungicide residues, which would be beneficial for improving human health and mitigating environmental issues. Herein, isolated single tungsten atoms were implanted onto well-organized metal–organic framework (MOF)-derived N-doped carbons to form W-N-C single-site heterojunctions with ultrahigh electrocatalytic activity . The coupling of W-N-C with Cu 3 (HHTP) 2 , an electronically conductive MOF with a large surface area and porous structure, exhibited enhanced electrocatalytic performance for the oxidation of carbendazim (CBZ) when they were used for decorating graphene nanoplatelet flexible electrode arrays fabricated via template-assisted scalable filtration. A wide linear range (3.0 nM–50 μM) with an ultra-low detection limit of 0.97 nM and fast response was achieved for CBZ analysis. Moreover, the sensing platform has been utilised to monitor CBZ levels in vegetable samples with satisfactory recovery rates of 97.2–102% and a low relative standard deviation of 1.9%.
