Highly efficient and 100 % selectivity of CO generation via CO2 Photoreduction over a novel CsBr@CuBr2 Heterojunction

Jingshan Cui,Zhurui Shen,Gaoqing Cao,Xiangxu Zhao,Weizun Li

To address the global challenge posed by excessive carbon dioxide emissions, our research pioneers the transformation of CO 2 into valuable hydrocarbon fuels. Central to this approach is the innovation of photocatalysts, engineered to exhibit exceptional photoresponse characteristics. In this research, the CsBr@CuBr 2 photocatalyst was innovatively synthesized through a straightforward and effective one-pot method. The catalyst displayed remarkable efficacy, achieving a CO 2 photoreduction rate of 201.47 μmol g −1 within just 4 h. The incorporation of CsBr into CuBr 2 effectively captures excited-state electrons, thereby significantly enhancing charge separation efficiency. Utilizing in situ DRIFTS and DFT theoretical analysis, the experiment reveals the complex process of CO 2 photoreduction to CO. The results of this experiment provide breakthrough insights for the systematic design of metal bromide heterostructures, which possess robust CO 2 adsorption/activation potential and notable stability.

Combination of piezoelectric additives and ball milling for high-efficiency degradation of organic dye in solid state

Shuzhen Zhou,Jingyi Hao,Mengjie Zhou,Xiaoguang Qiao,Xinchang Pang

The combination of piezoelectric material and ball milling leads to new frontiers in catalysis research. Here we used piezoelectric BaTiO 3 nanoparticles as the additive for the degradation of dye pollutant in solid state in ball milling process. With the assistant of ppm level CuBr 2 and H 2 O 2 , high degradation conversion (> 99%) of dyes can be achieved in short time (10 min). BaTiO 3 nanoparticles became temporarily highly polarized particles during BM process and generated electron-hole. These particles exhibited strong reducing properties and reduced Cu(II) into the active Cu(I) species which can catalyze H 2 O 2 to generate highly active ·O 2– to enhance the dye degradation. In addition to the general applicability for different dyes and larger scales, this BaTiO 3 assist BM process was deduced to be a promising powerful platform for organic pollutant treatment in solid states.

CuBr2-mediated anion-cation co-passivation for enhanced perovskite solar cells

Jinrui Chang,Yifei Feng,Xinrong Guan,Wenbin Lai,Gongqiang Li,Weiwei Mao,Yanxian Jin,Liang Chu

CuBr 2 serves as a dual-functional additive to realize anion-cation co-passivation for perovskite defects. • CuBr 2 modification boosts crystallinity, increases grain size, and suppresses non-radiative recombination in perovskite films. • The optimized device yields enhanced efficiency, reduced hysteresis, and improved stability. Perovskite solar cells (PSCs) are a promising photovoltaic technology, characterized by high efficiency, low cost, and simple solution fabrication. However, the defects at grain boundaries impair optoelectronic performance and degrade long-term operational stability of PSCs. Herein, CuBr 2 additive was incorporated into the perovskite precursor solution, enabling Cu 2+ and Br⁻ to co-passivate iodine vacancies and uncoordinated Pb 2+ . The CuBr 2 -mediated perovskite films demonstrated the optimized crystallinity, facilitated interfacial carrier transportation, and diminished trap concentration. The PSCs achieved an improved efficiency from 18.53% to 20.10% and demonstrated significantly improved long-term environmental stability. This work provides a novel strategy for anion-cation co-passivation of defects in PSCs. CuBr2/Me6TREN-mediated living radical polymerization of methyl methacrylate at ambient temperature

Yun-hai Yu,Xiao-hui Liu,Di Jia,Bo-wen Cheng,Fei-jun Zhang,Peng Chen,Shan Xie

A universal nitrogen based ligand, tris[2-(dimethylamino) ethyl] amine (Me 6 TREN), was firstly employed as both reducing agent and ligand for atom transfer radical polymerization with activators regenerated by electron transfer (ARGET ATRP) of methyl methacrylate (MMA) in bulk and solution, using CuBr 2 as the catalyst and 2-bromoisobutyrate as the initiator. Remarkably high activity catalytic system (CuBr 2 /Me 6 TREN) enabled the ambient temperature polymerization and thus biradical termination reactions were low. The polymerization exhibited typical living radical polymerization features, including pseudo first-order kinetics of polymerization, linear increase in the molecular weight versus monomer conversion, and low polydispersity index values. Moreover, effects of solvent and reaction temperature on the polymerization were investigated in detail. The rate of polymerization increased with reaction temperature and the apparent activation energy of the polymerization was calculated to be 51.11 kJ/mol. Gel permeation chromatography and 1 H NMR analyses as well as chain extension experiment confirmed the living chain-end functionality.

Kinetic Study of CuBr2/PPh3 Catalytic ARGET ATRP and Its Application in Acrylate Emulsions Preparation

Xingbing Yang,Tang Cheng,Yan Wenyu,Xie Yi,Xu Xinyue,Li Yanxue,Chen Gang,Zhao Wenting

Activators regenerated by electron transfer atom transfer radical polymerization (ARGET ATRP) represents a significant advancement in reversible deactivation radical polymerization, offering substantially reduced catalyst loadings while maintaining precise control over molecular architecture. This study presents a comprehensive kinetic investigation of CuBr 2 /PPh 3 catalytic ARGET ATRP of ethyl acrylate, methyl methacrylate, and butyl acrylate with particular emphasis on its application in the preparation of acrylate emulsions. The results demonstrate that increasing the ligand concentration effectively enhanced both monomer conversion and the apparent propagation rate constant. The polymerization rate reached a maximum at a catalyst to ligand molar ratio of 1 : 2. At a polymerization temperature of 90°C, both monomer conversion and apparent growth rate attained their peak values, yielding an apparent activation energy of 56.5 kJ/mol. Furthermore, increasing the reducing agent concentration resulted in concomitant increases in both monomer conversion and copolymerization rate. This catalytic system was successfully applied to the emulsion polymerization of three monomers and stability of the isolated emulsions was explored. It is demonstrated that pretty low catalyst loading CuBr 2 /PPh 3 -catalyzed ARGET ATRP could be a plausible practical method for the preparation of acrylate emulsions.

Rapid SARA ATRP of Methyl Acrylate in Polyethylene Glycol Mediated by a Mixed Sulfite/CuBr2 Catalytic System

Xian Rong Shen,Xiang Yi Xin,Gao Jian Gang

Abstract Supplemental activator and reducing agent atom transfer radical polymerization (SARA ATRP) of methyl acrylate was successfully performed in inexpensive, eco-friendly polyethylene glycol solvents and catalyzed by a mixed sulfite/CuBr 2 system at room temperature. The presence of polyethylene glycol in the reaction mixtures allowed fast and controlled polymerizations throughout the whole reaction time. Remarkably, a fast polymerization can be achieved with a monomer conversion reaching 90% in only 50 min using PEG 200 as the reaction solvent. The controlled character of the ATRP of methyl acrylate was confirmed by the linear increase in molecular weight with monomer conversion, the narrow molecular weight distributions ( M w / M n = 1.15) and the results of chain extension experiments. 1 H NMR analysis also confirmed the molecular structure and chain-end functionality of the obtained polymers, and the effects of PEG molecular weight and inorganic sulfites on the polymerization behavior were investigated.

Preparation and characterization of poly(glycidyl methacrylate)-grafted magnetic nanoparticles: Effects of the precursor concentration on polyol synthesis of Fe3O4 and [PMDETA]0/[CuBr2]0 ratios on SI-AGET ATRP

Liping Jiang,Xuyang Zhou,Guyun Wei,Xiaoduo Lu,Weiping Wei,Jianhua Qiu

Polymer brushes based on poly(glycidyl methacrylate) (PGMA) have been successfully grafted from the surface of silica coated iron oxide (Fe 3 O 4 @SiO 2 ) nanoparticles via surface-initiated activators generated by electron transfer atom transfer radical polymerization (SI-AGET ATRP). The size of the nanoparticles could be adjusted from 7.3 to 9.6   nm by varying the precursor concentration of iron(III) acetylacetonate. The Fe 3 O 4 nanoparticles possessed a highly crystalline structure, and the saturation magnetization of the as-prepared magnetite was strongly related to the particle size. Furthermore, the grafted PGMA content on the magnetic nanoparticles could be controlled by varying the ligand to transition metal ratio in a N , N , N ′, N ″, N ″-pentamethyldiethylenetriamine (PMDETA)/CuBr 2 catalyst system. The maximum grafted content was 23.1% at a ratio of [PMDETA] 0 /[CuBr 2 ] 0   =   2:1.
