Persulfate activation of CuS@Ti3C2-based MXene with Bi-active centers toward Orange II removal under visible light

Qi Wang,Yu Mei,Ruoxue Zhou,Sridhar Komarneni,Jianfeng Ma

The Ti 3 C 2 -based MXene with unique lamellar nanostructure and high conductivity is expected to effectively improve photocatalytic ability of composites as a cocatalyst. Herein, two dimensional Ti 3 C 2 -based MXene nanosheets decorated with copper sulfide particles (CuS@MXene) were synthesized by hydrothermal treatment to boost catalytic persulfate (PS) activation under light, exhibiting remarkable reactivity and stability for the rapid removal of Orange II. The phase composition of CuS@MXene was detected by X-ray diffraction (XRD), the morphology of CuS@MXene was characterized by scanning electron microscope (SEM), and the results of X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) proved the elemental composition and valence state of elements in the CuS@MXene. The dosage of PS and initial pH of solution were the main factors affecting the removal rate of Orange II, and the quenching experiment showed that 1 O 2 was the primary reactive species for the removal of Orange II in CuS@MXene -PS system. In addition, this study showed that CuS@MXene provided bi-active centers for PS activation, which was mainly attributed to the rapid charge transfer between dual electron-rich active centers of Cu and Ti. This system may be applicable to the degradation of other challenging organic pollutants .

Facile synthesis of CuS/MXene nanocomposites for efficient photocatalytic hydrogen generation

Yi Xie,Md Mushfiqure Rahman,Shefiu Kareem,Hao Dong,Fen Qiao,Wei Xiong,Xiaoqing Liu,Neng Li,Xiujian Zhao

In this work, we have established a facile wet-chemical procedure for depositing CuS nanocrystals (NCs) on layered MXenes with efficient photocatalytic activity. Multilayered and few-layered MXenes are respectively achieved by etching MAX in the presence of HF solution and by subsequent intercalating the as-synthesized multilayered Ti3C2Tx with tetramethylammonium hydroxide solution (TMAOH). The CuS/MXene nanocomposites are then prepared by an in situ reaction of sulfur with copper precursors. A unique and simple ligand exchange technique is explored to convert the resulting CuS/MXene nanocomposites to the water phase in order to investigate the photocatalytic activity of the resulting samples. Compared with the pristine MXene and CuS, the CuS/MXene nanocomposite displays higher photocatalytic activity for H2 generation under the illumination of simulated sunlight. The CuS-deposited few-layered MXene demonstrates the highest photocatalytic activity among all the samples. The H2 generation rate of the CuS-deposited few-layered MXene can reach 4.245 μmol g−1 h−1, which is more than 1.42 and 1.49 times higher than that of pure CuS and MXene, respectively. This work might pave the way to a facile and general approach to modulate 0D/2D nanocomposites and heterostructures for promising applications in energy-related fields.

Enhanced tribological and conductive properties of supramolecular gels via CuS@MXene nanohybrids

Shilin Liu,Gaiqing Zhao,Junming Liu,Zhihuan Wang,Qianqian Zhu,Xiaobo Wang,Zhuang Xu

Modern mechanical transmission components face the multiple challenges of friction, wear, and electrical corrosion. To address these issues, the development of multifunctional additives that integrate superior tribological performance with high electrical conductivity has emerged as a critical strategy. In this study, CuS@MXene nanohybrids possessing both excellent tribological and conductive characteristics were designed and synthesized as multifunctional additives for supramolecular gels. The in-situ uniform loading of CuS nanoparticles onto the Mo 2 C MXene surface was achieved via molten salt etching and electrostatic adsorption strategies. Its tribological performance and lubrication mechanisms as a lubricant additives in supramolecular gels were investigated using a reciprocating friction and wear tester, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, and Focused Ion Beam-Transmission Electron Microscopy. Tribological evaluations revealed that, compared to the pure gel, the gel containing 2.0 wt% CuS@MXene reduced the average coefficient of friction by 56.1% and the wear volume by 83.9%, while enhancing the load-carrying capacity by two times. The lubrication mechanism of CuS@MXene is attributed to the formation of a “hard-soft” synergistic composite tribofilm at the sliding interface; this film leverages the complementary advantages of its components to deliver exceptional lubrication performance. Furthermore, the nanohybrids significantly enhanced the electrical conductivity of the gel, thereby reducing the electrical resistance of the tribofilm. This work provides a novel strategy for developing multifunctional additives with robust lubricating and conductive capabilities to mitigate friction and electrical corrosion in mechanical components.

Antibacterial and Angiogenic (2A) Bio-Heterojunctions Facilitate Infectious Ischemic Wound Regeneration via an Endogenous-Exogenous Bistimulatory Strategy

Bin Li,Rui Shu,Hang Yang,Fan Yang,Wenyu Dai,Wanxi Chen,Yau Kei Chan,Weizhong Yang,Ding Bai,Yi Deng

In infectious ischemic wounds, a lack of blood perfusion significantly worsens microbe-associated infection symptoms and frequently complicates healing. To overcome this daunting issue, we devise and develop antibacterial and angiogenic (2A) bio-heterojunctions (bio-HJs) consisting of CuS/MXene heterojunctions and a vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF)-mimicking peptide (VMP), to accelerate infectious cutaneous regeneration by boosting angiogenesis via an endogenous-exogenous bistimulatory (EEB) strategy. Assisted by near-infrared irradiation, the bio-HJ platform exhibits versatile synergistic photothermal, photodynamic, and chemodynamic effects for robust antibacterial efficacy. In addition, copper ions liberated from 2A bio-HJs elevate VEGF secretion from fibroblasts, which provokes VEGF receptors (VEGFR) activation through an endogenous pathway, whereas VMP itself promotes an exogenous pathway to facilitate endothelial cell multiplication and tube formation by directly activating the VEGFR signaling pathway. Moreover, employing an in vivo model of infectious ischemic wounds, we confirm that the EEB strategy can considerably boost cutaneous regeneration through pathogen elimination, angiogenesis promotion, and collagen deposition. As envisaged, this work leads to the development of a powerful 2A bio-HJ platform that can serve as an effective remedy for bacterial invasion-induced ischemic wounds through the EEB strategy.
