Oral and maxillofacial surgeries or trauma (e.g., impacted tooth extraction, jaw fracture, or tumor resection) often lead to concurrent peripheral nerve injury and bone defects, while current collagen/gelatin sponges offer limited therapeutic effects. To address this challenge, we developed innovative electrospun scaffolds (MOF2, MOF4, and MOF6) by in situ synthesis of 3,5-dihydroxybenzoic acid/zinc (DHBA/Zn-MOF) hybrids within a gelatin/polycaprolactone matrix. In vitro, Schwann cells treated with material extracts exhibited enhanced migration, regulated myelin-associated genes (Ngf/Pmp22 upregulated, Ncam downregulated), and increased NGF protein expression via the PI3K pathway. Co-cultured PC12 cells showed increased neurite outgrowth, confirming neural repair potential. Osteoblasts exposed to material extracts showed elevated alkaline phosphatase activity, enhanced mineralization, and upregulated osteogenic genes (Runx2, Alp, and Opg), verifying osteogenic capacity. In vivo, MOF6 scaffolds achieved superior motor function recovery in a rat sciatic nerve crush model (evidenced by increased compound muscle action potentials and reduced gastrocnemius muscle atrophy) and promoted trabecular bone formation in a rat skull defect model (validated by micro-CT and histological analyses). These findings underscore the dual-functional capability of DHBA/Zn-hybrid scaffolds to simultaneously promote nerve repair and bone regeneration, offering a promising therapeutic approach for complex neuro-bone composite injuries in clinical practice.

High consumption and low selectivity of traditional collectors limit the efficient flotation recovery of rhodochrosite particles from finely disseminated complex ores. Herein, a novel “Y” structure multi-functional surfactant, 2-decanoylamino-4-hydroxycarbamoyl-butyric acid (DHBA) was developed for flotation recovery of rhodochrosite. The micro-flotation results showed that DHBA exhibited an excellent collecting ability for rhodochrosite than common collector octanohydroxamic acid (OHA) (the recovery reached 85.7% for 7 × 10 – 5 mol·L – 1 DHBA, while only 27.9% for OHA). Meanwhile, DHBA can selectively separated rhodochrosite from quartz at neutral pH and low collector dosages. The experimental analysis combined with the density functional theory calculations revealed that DHBA was lattice matched to the rhodochrosite via the oxygen atoms of carboxyl and hydroxamate groups chelating with two Mn atoms, conferring strong adsorption affinity of DHBA. In addition, intermolecular hydrogen bonds coexist through the amide groups, promoting the collectors' self-assembly on the rhodochrosite surface, improving surface hydrophobicity. This research provides a feasible collector design protocol for the separation and enrichment of manganese carbonate ore.

Flotation recovery of micro-fine minerals has been constrained by low flotation efficiency due to the large surface area and small quality of fines, causing a huge waste of valuable resources. Herein, we developed a novel hydroxamate-modified N-acyl amino acid surfactant, 2-decanoylamino-4-hydroxycarbamoyl-butyric acid (DHBA), which can self-assemble via synergism among amide, carboxyl, and hydroxamate functional groups for achieving the efficient flocculation and recovery of fine rhodochrosite. The theoretical calculations and interface analyses revealed from microscopic perspective that the intramolecular synergistic chelation effect between carboxyl and hydroxamate groups conferred strong adsorption affinity of DHBA on rhodochrosite. On the other hand, the intermolecular H-bonds not only promote the tight arrangement of collectors on particle surface to enhance hydrophobic association effect, but also induce the agglomeration of collectors into net-like “macromolecules” clusters to produce adsorption bridging for fines. Eventually, the flocculation and flotation tests confirmed that DHBA exhibits a superior flocculation and collecting performance for fine rhodochrosite than very common collector octanoylhydroxamate acid (OHA) (the recovery reached 95.2% for 1 × 10 −4 mol·L −1 DHBA while 66.8% for OHA). This research provides a feasible surfactant development strategy for flocculation-flotation.

Three phenolic acids including p -hydroxybenzoic acid (PHBA), 3,4-dihydroxybenzoic acid, (DHBA), and gallic acid (GA) were grafted onto native pectin (Na-Pe) through enzymatic method . Ultraviolet–visible spectrometry, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy , and 1 H NMR analyses were used to explore the reaction mechanism. Results indicated that the p -hydroxyl of the phenolic acids reacted with the methoxycarbonyl of pectin through transesterification , and a covalent connection was formed. The phenolic acid contents of PHBA modified pectin (Ph-Pe), DHBA modified pectin (Dh-Pe), and GA modified pectin (Ga-Pe) were 20.18%, 18.87%, and 20.32%, respectively. After acylation with phenolic acids, the 1,1-diphenyl-2-picryl hydrazine clearance of pectin changed from 7.68% (Na-Pe) to 6.88% (Ph-Pe), 40.80% (Dh-Pe), and 90.30% (Ga-Pe), whereas its inhibition ratio of pectin increased from 3.11% (Na-Pe) to 35.02% (Ph-Pe), 66.36% (Dh-Pe), and 77.89% (Ga-Pe). Moreover, compared with Na-Pe, modified pectins exhibited better emulsification properties and stronger antibacterial activities against both Escherichia coli and Staphylococcus aureus .
