Digital light processing (DLP) 3D bioprinting technology has attracted increasing attention in tissue engineering in recent years. However, it still faces significant technical and operational challenges such as cell carcinogenesis caused by prolonged exposure to ultraviolet light and the presence of heavy metal ions in complex photoinitiator systems. In this study, a novel strategy is designed to introduce carbon quantum dots into visible-light-induced silk fibroin bioink as initiators (CDs/SilMA) applied for DLP 3D bioprinting technology. The incorporation of carbon quantum dots facilitates the formation of precise hydrogel structures at 415 nm visible wavelength, enabling the creation of brain, bronchus, spine, and ear models. Replacing heavy metal photoinitiators with carbon quantum dots imparts fluorescence properties to the bioink and enhances its mechanical properties. Meanwhile, the fibroin protein-based hydrogel exhibits favorable properties, such as drug loading, slow release, degradability, and biocompatibility. This is the first study to propose the application of carbon quantum dots in silk fibroin-based bioink. Moreover, the resulting product demonstrates excellent compatibility with the DLP printing process, making it promising for practical applications in various tissue engineering scenarios with specific requirements.

Calcium silicate can be used as an excellent material for biodegradable bone scaffolds because it can provide bioactive ions to promote bone regeneration. However, the brittleness and rapid degradation of calcium silicate scaffolds have significantly limited their clinical application. In this work, the calcium silicate scaffolds printed by DLP technology were immersed in a gelatin solution under high vacuum condition to obtain calcium silicate/gelatin composite scaffolds with good mechanical and biological properties. Then, genipin was used as a cross-linker for gelatin to control the degradation properties of the composite scaffolds. The initial compressive strength and toughness of the composite scaffolds were 5.0 times and one order of magnitude higher than those of the pure calcium silicate scaffolds, respectively. The gelatin on the surface of the scaffolds could effectively act as a protective layer to regulate the degradation behaviors of the calcium silicate substrate through controlling the crosslinking degree of the gelatin. After degrading for 14 days, the composite scaffolds at 1.0 % genipin concentration exhibited the highest compressive strength of 8.6 ± 0.8 MPa, much higher than that of the pure ceramic scaffold (1.5 ± 0.3 MPa). It can be found that the toughness of the composite scaffolds were almost over 13.2 times higher than that of the pure ceramic scaffold during degradation, despite the higher toughness loss for the former. Furthermore, the composite scaffolds showed enhanced cell biocompatibility and viability. These results demonstrate that the calcium silicate/gelatin composite scaffolds can be a promising candidate in bone tissue regeneration .

MOFs/MXene adsorbent was prepared by in-situ growth of MOFs(ZIF-67/ZIF-8) crystal particles onto the surface and between the layers of multi-layer MXene substrate. The method followed complex separation and recovery steps after completion of adsorption and there can be a risk of secondary contamination. To avoid this, DLP technique was used to print a series of 3D printed structures (3DS) with a specific topography, the prepared MOFs/MXene composites were loaded onto surface of the structure. Polydopamine (PDA) was then coated onto the surface to prepare monolithic adsorbent (PDA/MOFs/MXene/3DS) that was easily separated and recovered. The adsorbent was characterized by SEM, XRD, FTIR, TGA and XPS, while the batch adsorption of CR and Hg (II) was performed under different experimental conditions. The optimal removal rate and maximum adsorption of the monolithic adsorbent for CR and Hg (II) were 99.13/94.10 % and 75.76/464.48 mg/g, respectively and adsorption followed chemisorption onto the surface monolayer, which was spontaneous and exothermic. Multiple cycle tests showed excellent removal of CR (82.29 %) and Hg (78.47 %). In addition, adsorbent with synergistic effects of electrostatic interactions, H-bonding and π-π stacking shows a good adsorption effect. The study proved that that PDA/MOFs/MXene/3DS is a high-strength, structurally designable, green and promising adsorbent for large-scale remediation of real contaminants frpm wastewater.
