Small-pore aluminophosphate (AlPO) molecular sieves (MSs), particularly those in the ABC-6 family, have gained significant attention for their unique capabilities in selective adsorption and energy storage. However, developing new synthesis strategies for designing AlPOs with three-dimensional (3D) channel systems and determining the structures of nanosized novel AlPO MSs remain challenging tasks. In this study, we introduce a new small-pore AlPO with a 3D channel system, named DNL-17, synthesized by using a diquaternary ammonium compound as an organic structure-directing agent (OSDA). Its crystallographic structure was determined through advanced 3D electron diffraction (ED) techniques and further confirmed by emerging integrated differential phase contrast imaging. DNL-17 exhibits a remarkable 24-layer stacking sequence along the c-axis and features a variety of composite building units (CBUs), including d6r, can, cha, and eri. Significantly, a combination of 3D ED, theoretical calculations, and solid-state 13C NMR reveals that the employed OSDA adopts distinct conformations to stabilize different cages. This finding highlights a novel strategy for constructing AlPO MSs with diverse cage-based CBUs. Furthermore, DNL-17 demonstrates unique selective adsorption properties, particularly in the separation of n-butane and isobutane.

The inevitable combustion of fossil fuels in human industrial activities results in significant greenhouse gas emissions, leading to the pressing challenge of CO 2 /N 2 separation in humid flue gas. Iron-based Metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) have proven to be cheap, robust against water vapor attack due to the enhanced coordination bonds. In this study, we present two distinct MOFs i.e., DNL-9(Fe) and PCN-233(FeM II ), constructed by Fe clusters and 2,5-furandicarboxylic acid ligands. Static adsorption experiments revealed that DNL-9(Fe), featuring an exclusive Fe-F-Fe spiral packing structure, exhibited higher surface areas and enhanced CO 2 adsorption performance that outcompeted PCN-233 candidates. DNL-9(Fe) demonstrated a high IAST selectivity of CO 2 /N 2 at 247 (15/85, v/v, P/P 0 = 0.01), superior to the most of state-of-the-art Fe-MOFs reported up to date. The further theoretical calculations elucidated the binding sites of the framework with CO 2 molecules. Importantly, DNL-9(Fe) showed sufficient water stability and cyclic separation, as confirmed by dynamic breakthrough tests, indicating it as a promising candidate for practical CO 2 capture from humid flue gas.

Increased de novo lipogenesis (DNL) is a major feature of nonalcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH). None of the drugs targeting the catalytic activity of acetyl-CoA carboxylase (ACC), the rate-limiting enzyme in the DNL process, have been approved by the FDA. Whether cytosolic ACC1 can be regulated spatially remains to be explored. Herein, we find that streptavidin (SA), which is a bacterium-derived tetrameric protein, forms cytosolic condensates and efficiently induces a spatial re-localization of ACC1 in liver cells, concomitant with inhibited lipid accumulation. Both SA tetrameric structure and multivalent protein interaction are required for condensate formation. Interestingly, the condensates are further characterized as gel-like membraneless organelle (SAGMO) and significantly restrict the cytosolic dispersion of ACC1 and fatty acid synthase. Notably, AAV-mediated delivery of SA partially blocks mouse liver DNL and ameliorates NASH without eliciting hypertriglyceridemia. In summary, our study shows that insulating lipogenesis-related proteins by SAGMO might be effective for NASH treatment.
