With the increasing demand for dielectric materials in high-frequency microwave applications, fluoropolymer-based dielectric materials have been widely utilized due to their excellent dielectric and insulation properties. However, the low thermal conductivity limits their ability to meet the thermal dissipation requirements during high-frequency and high-speed signal transmission. The present study introduces a pioneering interface engineering strategy wherein C–F bonds on the surface of ethylene-tetrafluoroethylene copolymer (ETFE) are photo-catalytically activated, enabling successful grafting of poly(glycidyl methacrylate) (PGMA) chain segments. Subsequently, the resulting graft copolymers are blended with thermally conductive h-BN filler to prepare composite dielectric materials. The results demonstrate that the incorporation of PGMA segments significantly enhances the interfacial compatibility between the ETFE matrix and h-BN filler, resulting in composites with a dense microstructure and outstanding dielectric and thermal properties. At a filler content of 30 vol%, the ETFE-g-PGMA@BN composite achieves an in-plane thermal conductivity of 4.2 W (m K)−1 and a through-plane thermal conductivity of 0.77 W (m K)−1. Moreover, at 1 GHz, the composite exhibits a dielectric constant of 2.2 and a dielectric loss of 0.004. This work presents a novel interface design strategy for surface modification of PTFE-based fluoropolymers, expanding their potential applications in printed circuit boards (PCBs) and providing a new direction for the design of polymer-based dielectric materials.

In this study, superhydrophobic coatings characterized by micro- and nanostructures were fabricated using a simple spraying method. The water contact angle of the ETFE-ZrO 2 composite coating achieved a maximum of 157.3° after three spraying applications, with a mass ratio of ethylene-tetrafluoroethylene copolymer (ETFE) to modified ZrO 2 particles established at 1:1. This coating had good corrosion resistance, as demonstrated by a reduction in corrosion current density to 2.162 × 10 −6 A/cm 2 , which is an order of magnitude lower than that of Q345 steel. Following immersion in a 3.5 wt% NaCl solution for 72 h, the superhydrophobic coatings retained their hydrophobic properties. Furthermore, these coatings demonstrated good chemical stability, maintaining a water contact angle >150° across a pH range of 3 to 12. Additionally, the coatings exhibited effective self-cleaning properties and photocatalytic effects. The rapid fabrication of these coatings presents significant advantages for the development of large-area, superhydrophobic, and self-cleaning surfaces, as they do not require complex modifications or reactions.

The effects of electron beam irradiation on ethylene-tetrafluoroethylene copolymer (ETFE) were studied. Samples were irradiated in air at room temperature by a universal electron beam accelerator for various doses. The effect of irradiation on samples and the cross-linked ETFE after aging were investigated with respect to thermal characteristics, crystallinity, mechanical properties, and volume resistivity using thermo-gravimetric analysis (TGA), differential scanning calorimeter (DSC), universal mechanical tester, and high resistance meter. TGA showed that thermal stability of irradiated ETFE is considerably lower than that of unirradiated ETFE. DSC indicates that crystallinity is altered greatly by cross-link. The analysis of mechanical properties, fracture surface morphology, visco-elastic properties and volume resistivity certify radiation-induced cross-linking is vital to aging properties. Keywords:ETFE;irradiation;aging;mechanical properties;crystallization kinetics

As a new-generation cable insulation material, polypropylene (PP) has received much attention and replaced crosslinked polyethylene. However, the space charge accumulation under high fields still needs to be improved to ensure the safe operation of high-voltage direct current (HVDC) cables. Here, PP was chemically grafted with propenoxy-2-hydroxybenzophenone (AHB) to form PP-g-AHB, and ethylene tetrafluoroethylene copolymer (ETFE) was chemically grafted with glycerol (GL) to obtain ETFE-g-GL. Then PP/ETFE co-crystalline supramolecules were prepared via melt blending. The effect of hydrogen bonds on the space charge inhibition of PP/ETFE co-crystalline supramolecules was investigated using molecular dynamics simulation of differential charge density, energy band, and trap energy level combined with microstructure characterization. Simulations and experiments show that PP-g-AHB and ETFE-g-GL can form PP/ETFE co-crystalline supramolecules very well, owing to the existence of hydrogen bonds. When the mass fraction of PP-g-AHB is 80 %, the cocrystallization size of PP/ETFE supramolecules maximizes to 390 ± 10 μm. Under the action of direct current source, the carrier mobility of PP/ETFE co-crystalline supramolecules is as low as 7.94 × 10 −13 m 2 /(V.s), and the space charge is dominated by heteropolarity, when the average charge density minimizes to 0.08 C/m 3 . So far, the charge transport characteristics of PP/ETFE co-crystalline supramoleculars have been significantly improved using hydrogen bonds as a bridge. This study lays a foundation for the application of PP in HVDC cable insulation.
