Conductive elastomer films (CEFs) have found widespread applications toward flexible electronics and wearable devices. Silicones are particularly advantageous for fabricating high-performance CEFs. However, processing silicone/conductive filler composite prepolymers is challenging because of their high viscosity, especially when incorporating nanofillers like carbon nanotubes (CNTs) that can greatly increase the viscosity of silicone prepolymers. Herein, we present a simple, facile and versatile hexane-assisted air-spraying method for fabricating silicone-based CEFs from Ecoflex and CNTs. This method allows for processing CNT/Ecoflex prepolymers with CNT concentrations of 0.5 ∼ 5 wt%, resulting in stretchable CEFs with controllable structural, mechanical and electrical properties. We leveraged the distinct advantages of CNT/Ecoflex CEFs, including the excellent mechanoelectrical sensitivity, workable strain range and elasticity of the CNT 1 /Ecoflex group, and the high conductivity and low mechanoelectrical sensitivity of the CNT 5 /Ecoflex group. These properties enable their multifunctional applications as wearable and waterproof resistive strain sensors, multilayered capacitive pressure sensors, and wearable electric heaters. This work provides valuable insights into the development of high-performance and multifunctional silicone-based composite materials for advanced wearable electronics.

Triboelectric nanogenerators (TENGs) are widely employed in self-powered pressure sensing, yet devices based on a single triboelectric layer have approached their performance ceiling. Herein, a “double triboelectric layer” strategy is proposed to construct a flexible, self-powered, single-electrode pressure sensor. The charge-generation layer employs Co-MOF with high surface area and excellent conductivity, blended into Ecoflex to maximize triboelectric charge output, while the charge-trapping layer incorporates highly electronegative PVDF into Ecoflex to suppress interfacial charge neutralization and expedite charge transport. Benefiting from the biomimetic micro-textured surface created by sandpaper templating, the enhanced charge-storage density afforded by Co-MOF-doped generation layer, and the elevated charge-transfer efficiency introduced by the PVDF-doped trapping layer, the device based on a double triboelectric layer boosts peak voltage to 86 V, which is a 177 % increase compared with the single-layer device (31 V). It delivers an ultrahigh sensitivity of 11.17 V kPa⁻¹ over 0–6 kPa and maintains stable operation beyond 11,00 cycles. With fast response and long-term reliability, the sensor accurately captures human motions and wrist-pulse signals. This architecture pioneers a pathway toward high-performance, self-powered sensors tailored for next-generation wearable electronics.

In recent years, there has been a significant surge of interest in flexible strain sensors within the domains of wearable electronics and human–computer interaction. However, as these fields continue to advance rapidly, there is an urgent need to improve the comprehensive performance of flexible strain sensors including sensitivity, sensing range, response speed, and durability. In this study, we address this issue by transferring carbon black/graphene (CB/Gr) conductive nanocomposites onto the surface of an Ecoflex flexible substrate, which has been pretreated using sandpaper to enhance adhesion. The resulting flexible strain sensor exhibits high sensitivity, with a gauge factor of 51.4, while offering a wide sensing range of 100%. Notably, this sensor demonstrates high performance across various aspects, including a fast response time (60 ms) and excellent durability (up to 4000 stretching–releasing cycles). The versatility of this sensor is evident in its ability to effectively monitor both small strain activities, such as speech recognition, and larger strain activities, such as elbow bending. Moreover, the sensor has demonstrated outstanding performance in various application scenarios, including human health and motion condition monitoring as well as acoustic wave and vibration signals detection. Consequently, this highlights the sensor’s remarkable adaptability and substantial potential for wide-range applications in these domains.

Recently, highly flexible strain sensors have been widely studied based on the conductive polymer composites, due to their potential applications in wearable electronics, soft robots, and human–machine interfaces. Herein, we fabricate the flexible MWCNT line/Ecoflex strain sensors by 3D printing technology to investigate the effects of preparation conditions on the performance of sensors, and find that gage factor (GF) of such sensors is effected by concentration of MWCNT/IPA solution and curing time of Ecoflex pre-polymer film. Among the obtained samples, the sensor prepared by 2 wt% MWCNT/IPA solution with curing time of 12 min has the highest gage factor, about ~ 23.87. The sensors can detect or monitor subtle motions of facial muscle, breath and pulse, and possess wide linear range besides good repeatability and excellent durability. Meanwhile, the prepared sensors were designed into a 4 × 4 array, and the array achieved monitoring of spatial distribution of the applied pressure. Our strategy could be used to fabricate flexible strain sensors with wide linear range, which facilitate further integration to achieve potential applications in detection of human activity, electronic skin, and soft robots.

In this paper, a polymer blend labeled PDMS/Ecoflex (PE) was fabricated using Polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) and Ecoflex 00-30 in various proportions. An innovative carbon nanotube/carbon black (CNT/CB) hybrid filler reinforced cetyltrimethylammonium bromide (CTAB) surfactant was prepared and sprayed to obtain CNT/CB/PE composite material. The resulting PE blend matrix showed excellent mechanical properties, including high stretchability of nearly 500% strain, minimal hysteresis, and reduced friction by up to 75% with decreasing wear. These properties were attributed to the combined effect of Young’s modulus, stiffness, and hardness of PDMS and Ecoflex. Additionally, three types of contacts CNT-CB, CB-CB, and CNT-CNT were produced by the favorable interaction of CNT and CB particles, stabilizing the sensor signal. The CNT/CB/PE sensor had an improved wear resistance, conductivity stabilization, stretchability, gauge factor during the tensile test, and strain-dependent sensitivity across a broad range of fixed strains (up to 100% strain). Furthermore, the sensor was attached to various human body joints to track the related human motions, proving the fascinating perspective in detecting various human movements and making it appropriate for application in multifunctional wearable devices in hostile environments.

Adhesion appears in nature as a kind of clinging strategy for living creatures to survive in a complex environment. Nevertheless, the artificial counterpart applications are limited by many factors, such as slow responding rate and high driving voltage. In this paper, a novel magnetic adhesion achieved by the actuation of Ecoflex embedded with iron particles is presented, which is demonstrated by a magnetic suction cup (MSC) that can switch the adhesion state within 500 ms. Compared with suction cups made of the dielectric elastomer in existing literature, the present work's driving voltage is safe for humans. Furthermore, a mechanical model is developed and verified to optimize the design of the MSCs. By applying an altering magnetic field, the adhesive force varying with time exhibits complex waveforms such as sinusoidal wave, triangle wave, square wave, and even pulse wave can be achieved. For some situations that large adhesion force is not necessarily considered while the adhesion requires to be accurately and quickly controlled, such as transfer printing and intelligent sensing, the magnetic adhesion demonstrated in this article will enrich the future available applications.

Improving output performance is a key to develop triboelectric nanogenerator (TENG) applications. Herein, an improved melamine foam (MF) /MXene/Ecoflex@TiO 2 -TENG (FME@TiO 2 -TENG) based on the composite dielectric MF/MXene/Ecoflex@TiO 2 (FME@TiO 2 ) is developed after comprehensively considering charge generation, transport, trapping, and dissipation. A 3D MF framework with evenly dispersed MXene exhibits strong electronegativity , electrical conductivity , and a formation of a large number of micro-capacitances, which are advantageous for surface charge generation, transfer, and retention in the composite dielectric FME@TiO 2 . More importantly, dual functions of a TiO 2 nanotube array film, i.e., its high dielectric property and electron-trapping ability, are beneficial for output of electrical properties. A cathodic protection system powered by the FME@TiO 2 -TENG was designed to demonstrate its application potential in electrochemistry. Furthermore, a novel in-situ micro-electrolytic cell observation system using K 3 [Fe (CN) 6 ] as an indicator was designed to evaluate the cathodic protection effect. The results showed that the FME@TiO 2 -TENG could be used as an independent power source to provide electrochemical cathodic protection. This study provides a useful guidance for a development of the high-performance TENG composite dielectrics and promotes their practical application in the field of the electrochemical cathodic protection.

Strain sensors based on silver nanowires (AgNWs) have attracted much attention due to their wide application of electronic skin, smart textiles, and health monitoring. In this work, we report a flexible strain sensor based on an Ecoflex flexible substrate. AgNWs and Multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) doped as a conductive material. The excellent ductility and elongation at break in Ecoflex, as well as excellent heat resistance and impact resistance, can increase the test range and increase the sensing range of the sensor. AgNWs-based sensors enhance the sensitivity of the sensor to 118.19 while improving linearity and stability and reducing hysteresis. In addition, strain sensors can be utilized to monitor body movements such as finger flexion, leg movements, and so on. In this work, smart gloves are used to monitor finger movements using flexible strain sensors, which show its great potential for wearable electronics applications.

In this paper, a new method was proposed to improve the sensitivity of capacitive-type pressure sensors by using the high dielectric constant materials as dielectric layer of sensors. The porous multi-wall carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs)/Ecoflex elastomer composites with high dielectric constant were prepared to serve as dielectric layers of capacitive-type pressure sensors. The MWCNTs/Ecoflex elastomer composite sensors show ultra-high sensitivity of 2.306 kPa −1 , wide dynamic range and low hysteresis. The as-prepared sensors can monitor the response to pressure below 2.6 Pa. Moreover, they have exhibited excellent performances in promising practical applications as wearable devices in detecting pulses of carotid artery and heartbeats. This strategy proposed here presents a promising way to obtain high performance pressure sensors for applications in E-skin, robotics, wearable medical aids and real-time tactile sensing systems.

In this study, through structural design, thin film doping modification, and electrode preparation, a high-performance triboelectric nanogenerator (TENG) has been achieved, and an electromagnetic generator is incorporated as an energy supplement to construct a self-powered sensing system for gas alarm and environmental monitoring. The high porosity of NiO derived from MOFs, high charge accumulation, and the high charge carrier mobility of N-MWCNTs promote charge capture and transfer, greatly enhancing the output performance of the triboelectric nanogenerator. Under the optimal doping ratio, the open-circuit voltage can reach 860 V, and the maximum short-circuit current up to 47 μA, sufficient to power 600 LEDs lights, achieving a power density of 10.45 W/m 2 . Meanwhile, MXene/Carbon/Ecoflex electrodes were fabricated to enhance the contact efficiency between the thin film and electrodes, further obtaining an open circuit voltage of 1020 V. This work provides a viable solution for the design of high-performance hybrid nanogenerators.

Omnidirectional strain sensors capable of detecting large and complex deformations are highly promising for wearable motion monitoring; however, achieving both multidirectional strain perception and enhanced electrical sensitivity remains challenging. Herein, a peelable circular piezoresistive strain sensor based on KH570-modified hydroxylated multi-walled carbon nanotubes (m-MWCNT-OH)/Ecoflex is developed through a screen-printing strategy and further functionalized with a copper (II) 2,3,6,7,10,11-hexahydroxytriphenylene (Cu 3 (HHTP) 2 ) conductive metal-organic framework (c-MOF)/poly(3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene) nanofiber (PEDOT-NFs) nanolaminate. The circular sensing architecture facilitates uniform strain distribution and orientation-independent strain transfer, while the c-MOF/PEDOT-NFs coating constructs additional conductive pathways, enhancing strain-induced resistance variation. The sensor is fabricated using a sequential process involving screen printing of the m-MWCNT-OH/Ecoflex sensing layer, peel transfer, and spray deposition of the functional coating. The resulting sensor demonstrates a wide strain detection range of 0%–300%, a gauge factor (GF) of 8, a fast response time of 33 ms, a recovery time of 420 ms, and stable performance over 10 000 loading-unloading cycles. Compared with unmodified sensor, c-MOF/PEDOT-NFs functionalization significantly improves electrical sensitivity while maintaining the intrinsic omnidirectional sensing capability. Finite element analysis (FEA) confirms similar strain-transfer characteristics under different loading directions. The sensor enables accurate monitoring of multidirectional human motions, highlighting its potential for wearable electronics, soft robotics, and human-machine interfaces.

Flexible strain sensors capable of detecting subtle human movements are pivotal for advancements in human-machine interaction and virtual reality technologies. However, achieving high sensitivity, a broad sensing range, and system-level integration simultaneously remains a formidable challenge due to the inherent trade-off between electrical conductivity and mechanical deformability. Herein, a high-performance 3D-printed flexible strain sensor based on a synergistic MXene/carbon nanotube (CNT)/Ecoflex nanocomposite is reported. By coupling a microscopic MXene/CNT bridging network to mitigate irreversible nanosheet restacking with a macroscopic 3D-printed stress-dissipating architecture, the inherent conflict between electrical conductivity and mechanical deformability is successfully reconciled. This synergistic design endows the sensor with high linearity ( R 2 = 0.99), a broad sensing range (up to 80%), and exceptional durability (>1000 cycles). This proof-of-concept system integrates STM32-based acquisition with dynamic visualization. Results confirm its stable low-latency performance in motion mapping, validating the hardware-software co-design approach for future integrated wearable electronics.
