Two lanthanide metal-organic frameworks (Ln-MOFs) using 1,3,5-benzenetricarboxylic acid (H 3 BTC) and Ln(III) nitrate hydrate (Ln = Eu, Er) as precursors have been prepared through a one-step solvothermal approach. The as-synthesized compounds were characterized by X-ray diffraction, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy and scanning electron microscopy, confirming that the targeted Ln-MOFs were successfully synthesised, with a straw-sheaf appearance. Their sensing properties were studied using cyclic voltammetry and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy , and the results showed that the prepared Ln-BTCs possessed larger electrochemical-response areas and stronger electron-transport capability, especially the Er-BTC. The oxidation behaviour of Sunset Yellow was investigated, and it was found that the Er-BTC exhibited a superior enhancement effect. Chronocoulometry was used to prove that Er-BTC more strongly adsorbs Sunset Yellow, resulting in a larger electrochemical response signal. The novel Sunset Yellow sensor exhibited a linear response in the range of 0.2–100 nM with a low limit of detection (0.05 nM, S/N = 3), and was applied in drink samples. The results were validated by high-performance liquid chromatography , indicating this sensor is a promising tool for Sunset Yellow detection.

Metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) have shown great potential as a new platform for developing solid-state light-emitting temperature probes . Herein, we synthesized Eu-BTC (MOFs) with controllable nanowire and nanorod morphologies by changing solvents. Eu-BTC Nanowire was produced from DMF with a size of 15 µm and a 21.5 % photoluminescence quantum yield (PLQY), while the nanorods from H 2 O yielded with a size of 200 nm (PLQY=17.4 %). The Eu-BTC materials exhibited highly variable temperature properties depending on the morphology. Eu-BTC Nanowire from DMF presented better temperature dependence as a highly sensitive temperature probe owing to its higher linearity and more excellent temperature-dependent reversibility , which further demonstrated its potential for application as a temperature probe. While, the Eu-BTC nanorod from H 2 O showed a non-linear relationship with temperature and low temperature-dependent reversibility , making it unsuitable as a temperature probe. The morphologies-dependent luminescence sensing mechanism of Eu-BTCs and the heat conduction induced by surface defects mechanism were proposed. This work provides theoretical guidance for developing highly sensitive and non-contact temperature probes , especially for the morphology-dependent temperature probes.

Lincomycin (LCM) has low ultraviolet (UV) absorption and thus, its determination requires complex instrumentation. Herein, a novel fluorometric probe based on an europium metal–organic framework coated with molecularly imprinted polymers (Eu(BTC)-MIP) was fabricated for the selective determination of LCM. First, highly luminescent Eu(BTC) was synthesized at room temperature. Then, through a simple co-polymerization process, MIPs were formed on the Eu(BTC) surface in the presence of LCM as template molecules to obtain Eu(BTC)-MIP. Eu(BTC) acted as a supporting substrate and antenna, and the MIP layer provided specific binding sites for LCM. Due to the advantages of both Eu(BTC) and MIPs, the probe had a long emission lifetime, strong fluorescence and specific recognition. Under the optimized conditions, the probe achieved the selective determination of LCM in the concentration range of 10 to 100 μg L−1 with a detection limit (LOD) of 7.18 μg L−1 (S/N = 3). This method is attractive because of its low cost, good selectivity, ready availability and simple manipulation without the need for complex instrumentation. Furthermore, the probe was successfully employed to detect LCM in egg samples with a recovery in the range of 88.02% to 97.29% and a relative standard deviation (RSD) of less than 3.46%. The satisfactory results demonstrate that the proposed probe based on Eu(BTC)-MIP can be used for the quantitative analysis of LCM and exhibits great potential for LCM determination in food samples. Also this study provides a new perspective for the determination of weak ultraviolet absorption or non-fluorescent substances without conjugated groups.

Preparation of γ-Al2O3/Eu-BTC for catalytic sensing toward terpenes. • A cyclic cataluminescence array sensor based on k-values corresponding to terpenes. • Investigation of the k -value pattern on the variation of terpene composition. • Origin identification of 86 hop samples based on characteristic terpenes. Hops are crucial to beer flavor, but their geographically dispersed origins are prone to confusion, while the significant variation in terpene ratios among hops from different regions provides key support for its origin identification. In this study,γ-Al 2 O 3 /Eu-BTC composite was synthesized for cyclic cataluminescence array sensor to terpenes. The results showed that the corresponding reaction decay coefficients ( k -values) for myrcene, farnesene, and humulene were 24.3, 32.0, and 73.8, respectively, enabling terpene-specific fingerprinting. Binary and ternary terpene mixtures exhibited predictable k -value variations, with relative standard deviations below 9.6%. A rapid detection method for hops identification was developed and successfully applied to 86 samples from six different origins. The method demonstrated both feasibility and accuracy, highlighting its potential as a rapid, simple, and efficient technique for origin identification of hops and other aromatic plants. Engineering novel ratiometric temperature sensors with high temperature sensitivity is still of a great challenge in versatile temperature measurement fields. Herein, a self-calibrated optical luminescent thermometer based on Eu 3+ /Mn 2+ dual-activator was fabricated in the same nanocomposite system, which integrated the photoluminescence originated from the temperature-insensitive Eu-metal organic framework with weak coupling effect and the temperature-sensitive Zn 2 GeO 4 :Mn 2+ with strong coupling effect. Specifically, the as-prepared nanocomposites composed of lanthanide MOF Eu-BTC (BTC = 1,3,5-benzenetricarboxylic acid) and Zn 2 GeO 4 :Mn 2+ nanorods possessed Eu 3+ /Mn 2+ dual red/green emission, which displays excellent ratiometric temperature-sensing functions and also has high relative sensitivity ( S r ) of 4.1% ºC −1 when they are used as ratiometric luminescent thermometer in the physiological temperatures (25–45 °C). These results demonstrate that such a design strategy with synergistic weak/strong coupling luminescence is useful and the as-obtained Eu-MOF/Zn 2 GeO 4 :Mn 2+ nanocomposites can be potential for temperature sensor applications.
