MoS 2 /MIL-88A (Fe) composite catalyst was prepared by in-situ formation method. The material was characterized by SEM, TEM, XRD and XPS, and the Rhodamine B(RhB) was activated and degraded by persulfate (PMS). The results showed that M-10/M 1:2 had the best degradation effect on RhB, the rate constant was 0.66420 min −1 , and the degradation rate could reach 1.89–14 times that of other doped composite catalysts. The SEM results showed that M − 10 had the least sulfur content, fewer MoS 2 flower layers and more exposed Mo 4+ atoms, which improved the electron transfer efficiency and accelerated the degradation reaction. The XPS spectra before and after M-10/M 1:2 reaction showed that the REDOX reaction of Fe 3+ /Fe 2+ and Mo 4+ /Mo 6+ on the catalyst surface played an important role in the activation of PMS. The results of free radical capture experiment and ESR test showed that the main active substances in M-10/M 1:2 /PMS reaction system were SO 4 •− , 1 O 2 , •O 2 − , and •OH, which only played a role in the degradation of RhB. Finally, based on the ESR results of M-10/M 1:2 /PMS system and the changes of Fe and Mo elements in XPS characterization before and after the reaction, the degradation mechanism of M-10/M 1:2 /PMS system was proposed.

Magnetic metallic materials compounded with dielectric loss materials are promising for efficient microwave absorption as a result of the synergistic effect between dielectric loss and magnetic loss, as well as the optimized impedance matching. In this paper, porous coin-like structured Fe@MoS 2 composite has been fabricated via solvothermal method accompanied by subsequent heat treatment under H 2 /Ar atmosphere. The structure and morphology of as-prepared Fe@MoS 2 composite indicates that MoS 2 nanosheets with the two-dimensional (2D) structure are well dispersed on the porous coin-like Fe micro-sheets to form a core-shell structure. Particularly, the addition of MoS 2 regulates the permittivity as well as improves the impedance matching of the Fe@MoS 2 composite. The as-prepared composite shows efficient microwave absorption properties with the maximum effective absorption bandwidth (reflection loss below −10 dB) of about 4.73 GHz (11.13–15.86 GHz) at the corresponding coating thickness of 2.0 mm, accompanied by the minimum reflection loss of about −37.02 dB. When the calcination temperature increases to 650 °C, the effective microwave absorption frequency band shifts to the lower frequency (9.91–14.19 GHz) with the minimum reflection loss of about −35.5 dB under the coating thickness of 2.0 mm. Considering the efficient microwave attenuation, the as-fabricated porous coin-like Fe@MoS 2 composite can be a hopeful candidate in the field of microwave absorption.

In this paper, MIL-101(Fe) and MoS 2 composites (MIL-101(Fe)/MoS 2 ) were synthesized using a facile solvothermal method . As a new degradation system, the synthesized composites were investigated using persulfate (PS) activation based on visible light (Vis). To establish the superiority of a heterogeneous photochemical catalysis system, the MIL-101(Fe)/MoS 2 was used as the catalyst in the presence of Na 2 S 2 O 8 with visible light irradiation. In the system mentioned, the MIL-101(Fe)/MoS 2 catalyst presented a much better catalytic ability than that of either a single photocatalysis or chemocatalysis system. The better catalytic ability suggests that the MIL-101(Fe)/MoS 2 catalyst was capable of effectively integrating photocatalysis and chemocatalysis leading to the highest degradation efficiency of 85% in 40 min with tetracycline as the target pollutant. The catalytic system MIL-101(Fe)/MoS 2 /PS/Vis degraded TC pollutant by forming species of O 2 ‾, 1 O 2 , hydroxyl radicals (•OH) and sulfate radicals (•SO 4 ‾) to degrade TC. Furthermore, the MIL-101(Fe)/MoS 2 catalyst displayed better catalytic performance compared to those materials that were previously reported, as verified by the good stability (reached 80% after three cycles) and the high TC degradation rate (85%) of the currently developed material. This system may be applicable to the degradation of TC and other challenging organic pollutants .

Improving the yield of target monophenols plays an important role in increasing the economic competitiveness of lignin valorization. In this study, a 3D porous Fe-MoS 2 /CMF catalyst with nanoflower microstructure was successfully fabricated by a simple one-step hydrothermal method. The catalytic depolymerization of the lignin β-O-4 model showed that Fe-doping increased the efficiency of the catalytic conversion reaction and promoted the cleavage of the β-O-4 ether bond, in agreement with theoretical calculations. Reforming of lignin depolymerization vapor revealed that the Fe-MoS 2 /CMF catalysts significantly improved the selectivity of phenol (30.01 wt%) and styrene (16.34 wt%) with the decrease of oligomers . Moreover, finite element simulation showed that the Fe-MoS 2 /CMF catalysts can also enhancing the local thermal effect by creating hot spots on the surface, thereby facilitate the lignin vapor reforming. Consequently, this work provides a promising method for the efficient production of phenol and styrene from lignin using bimetallic nanoarray microwave responsive catalyst.

In this study, the catalytic performance of helical-form carbon fiber cloth anode loaded with atomic Fe@MoS 2 (Fe@MoS 2 /CFC (h)) in piezocatalytic fuel cell (Pz-FC), improved 1.27 times with aeration as the piezo-driving force. The above Pz-FC with 0.5 mM peroxymonosulfate (PMS) and Xe-lamp irradiation forming a PMS-piezo-photocatalytic fuel cell (PMS-Pz-PFC) system, removed 92.8% berberine in 60 min and generated power density that were respectively 2.04-fold and 8-fold higher than the PMS-Pz-PFC using MoS 2 /CFC (h) as the anode. Experiments showed that atomic Fe promoted piezo-photocatalysis of the helical-design anode significantly to accelerate the activation of PMS. Moreover, with 0.5 mM PMS, remarkable enhancement of electricity generation (more than 500 times difference) and pollutant degradation (by 40–50%) were achieved. The drastic synergy of piezoelectric catalysis in enhanced advanced oxidation has great practical application potential.

The widespread use of emerging refractory organic contaminants poses a significant threat to human health, prompting the need for a cost-effective and efficient removal strategy. While the iron ions/PMS system effectively removes organic pollutants, slow Fe3+ to Fe2+ transformation hampers its efficiency, and the homogeneous distribution of iron ions complicates separation, resulting in secondary sludge pollution. Herein, we developed a novel submicron Fe-MoS2 (S-Fe-MoS2) catalyst with abundant surface cationic groups and sulfur vacancy through a cationic polyacrylamide aerogels (CPAMA) confined hydrothermal synthesis strategy. These features promote active site exposure, enhance reactant adsorption, and accelerate electron transfer between Mo and Fe sites, improving catalytic kinetics and promoting Fe3+/Fe2+ cycle for PMS activation. As a result, the S-Fe-MoS2/PMS system exhibited a high catalytic rate constant (kobs) of 0.32 min−1, in the degradation of 4-chlorophenol (4-CP), 1.5 times higher than that of the conventional Fe-MoS2/PMS system. It also achieved 82.9% total organic carbon (TOC) degradation within 60 min. Additionally, it possessed similar degradation performance for various organic pollutants, along with remarkable reusability (four cycles) and broad pH adaptability (2–8), indicating significant potential for widespread application. This study provided a new way for developing advanced heterogeneous catalysts with high efficiency for water treatment.

Influenza A virus (H1N1) poses a significant threat to global human health that imperative demands the development of sensitive and accurate point-of-care testing (POCT) methods. Here, for the first time, Fe-MoS 2 nanosheets were employed as a multifunctional nanotag in the development of catalytic colorimetric-photothermal dual-mode lateral flow immunoassay (dLFIA) strips for the sensitive detection of H1N1 inactivated virus. The Fe-MoS 2 nanosheets featuring large size, high specific surface area, and ultrathin structure could flow smoothly on the strips and thus quickly produce an ideal colorimetric signal for qualitative analysis. Both the limit of detection (LOD) of catalytic colorimetric and photothermal signals reached 1000 copies/mL and the corresponding calculated LOD was 550 and 691 copies/mL, respectively, which were about 50–90-fold more sensitive than traditional gold nanoparticles based-LFIA (5 × 10 4 copies/mL). The developed assay could correctly identify eight positive clinical samples with Ct values less than 35 and 10 negative actual samples, proving significant promise for rapid, sensitive, and accurate detection of H1N1, especially in resource-limited areas.

The development of bifunctional non-noble metal electrocatalysts demonstrating high activity and stability for the hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) and oxygen evolution reaction (OER) is of great significance for renewable and clean energy. In this work, we report hierarchically structured integrated Fe–MoS2/Ni3S2/NF (NF = nickel foam) materials prepared by a facile in situ solvothermal method, and among them, the Fe-doped MoS2 was assembled into spine-like nanorods. The optimized electrocatalyst (denoted as Fe–MoS2/Ni3S2/NF-2) demonstrated excellent activity and durability for performing the HER and OER in an alkaline electrolyte (pH = 14) with low overpotentials of 130.6 mV and 256 mV (vs. RHE) at a current density of 10 mA cm−2, as well as no significant loss in catalytic performance even after 2000 cyclic voltammetry (CV) cycles. An outstanding durability of 180 h could be achieved for OER. The overall water splitting made up of the two-electrode system with Fe–MoS2/Ni3S2/NF-2 as both the anode and the cathode required a voltage of only 1.61 V to drive a current density of 10 mA cm−2 along with an outstanding long-term stability of 20 h, displaying its great potential for application in water splitting. The effective construction of multi-component synergistic structures shows a good pathway for high-performance electrocatalysis and energy storage.

Water pollution has emerged as a critical global challenge, with persistent antibiotic residues posing severe threats to ecosystems, calling for efficient aqueous remediation technologies. In this study, a MIL-100(Fe) −24 /MoS 2 hybrid catalyst was constructed by integrating MIL-100(Fe) with MoS 2 . The hybrid material served as a heterogeneous catalyst activating peroxymonosulfate (PMS) in a photo-Fenton system for tetracycline (TC) degradation, achieving 80% removal within 30 min. Quenching experiments verified the involvement of both radical and non-radical pathways, with SO 4 • − and singlet oxygen ( 1 O 2 ) identified as the dominant reactive species. The effects of key parameters including catalyst dosage, PMS concentration, and initial pH were systematically investigated. Degradation intermediates were analyzed, and the catalyst exhibited satisfactory reusability and stability.

The rising contamination of water resources by levofloxacin (LEV) requires advanced remediation strategies that exceed the capabilities of the conventional methods. This study reports the rational design of a novel, multi-functional cellulose-phytic acid/Fe-MoS 2 (cellulose-PA/Fe-MoS 2 ) hybrid composite for the highly efficient removal of LEV via synergistic adsorption and photocatalysis. Cellulose served as sustainable substrate and phytic acid acted as a natural cross-linker to enhance the integration and distribution of Fe-MoS 2 onto cellulose substrate. This designed architecture results in enhanced hydrophilicity, minimized MoS 2 aggregation, and a maximized density of active sites, as confirmed by comprehensive characterization (SEM, XRD, FTIR, XPS, BET, LC-MS, EPR). The prepared composite demonstrated exceptional, temperature-dependent LEV adsorption capacities of up to 210.97 mg/g (95%) within 40 min, with kinetics and isotherms best described by pseudo-second-order and Langmuir models, indicative of chemisorption. The adsorption mechanism driven by a combination of electrostatic attraction, π–π stacking, hydrogen bonding, and coordination complexation, resulting in effective removal across a broad pH range (3−10). The cellulose-PA/Fe-MoS 2 exhibited photocatalytic effect, achieving efficient degradation of levofloxacin (LEV) (98.5%) within short time (15 mins) into small molecules (CO 2 , H 2 O, NH 3 , NO 3 , F, …etc.) as confirmed with LC-MS, driven primarily by reactive species (•O 2 − , •OH, h + ). In addition, it was demonstrated good recyclability, maintaining high performance over five consecutive cycles. These findings suggest that the designed cellulose-PA/Fe-MoS 2 composite could be used as a green and sustainable multifunctional material to simultaneously remove and degrade antibiotics from water environments.

Advanced oxidation processes based on piezo-promoted peroxymonosulfate (PMS) activation in environmental remediation have been widely applied, but the treatment efficiency of pollutants was restricted by sluggish charge separation and low affinity of PMS. Herein, trace iron-doped layered molybdenum disulfide (Fe/MoS 2 ) was used to degrade pollutants by piezo-promoted PMS activation. Real-time reaction site changes in carbamazepine (CBZ) degradation process were predicted by Fukui function calculation of the reaction intermediates, and the possible degradation pathways were given. Through piezoresponse force microscopy and calculation of the adsorption energy, electronic localized functions and Crystal Orbital Hamilton Population, it was verified that Fe doping improves the adsorption of oxygen-containing reactants on MoS 2 , enhancing the electron delocalization and piezo-polarization field, thus accelerating the piezo-promoted PMS activation kinetics. The degradation efficiency of CBZ on Fe/MoS 2 (0.44 min −1 ) was about 22 times than that of MoS 2 . Piezo-promoted PMS activation strategy based on Fe/MoS 2 still maintains a high removal rate in the treatment of dye and antibiotic pollutants such as ornidazole, rhodamine B, tetracycline, methyl orange, chlortetracycline. This study provides insights into the mechanism by which piezo-promoted PMS activation, and achieving high chemical efficiency for pollutants removal.
